I could send you parts diagrams for the engine to help try and make a repair yourself , or If you want you could send the train to me for repair and im sure i could fix this issue. Even if lgb does not make the part a reed switch is very common and easy to come by. I have references availble apon request also. Im here trying to keep these lgb trains running even know lgb is out of buisness. Good luck Kyle
The loco has reed switches on the bottom of the engine that respond to a magnet. From time to time these go bad and you might need a replacemeant. All i do is train repairs but mainly lgb. sorry about the engine
OK, does the loco require q 9 volt battery to help with the sound at slow speeds? I have had some issues with the track magnet not being quite strong enough to cause the reed switch on the underside of the loco to respond. Also, I have noticed that the loco needs to be running for awhile after startup for the whistle and bell to be activated by the track magnet. I'm not sure if I have been of any help, but good luck.
Who makes the track? might need to be shimmed up. place the items in the track and make some laps with some "normal speed" see if the system then works... It's happened to me when a locomotive sits too long.
Some decoders react on a double pulse, you can try it by putting two magnets behind eachother on your track

Don't you have a dealer who has, cause I think that the decoder they put in, is programmed on only digital, instead of digital and analog.

@maatwerk1
No local dealers seem to support digital control.
I bought the loco 2nd hand from overseas as it was cheap.

Maybe you have to chanche the settings from parallel to serial

@maatwerk1
Sadly, I don't have a digital controller to play with the DCC settings.

Try to get a need read switch in the engine for the whistle and bell, they are easy to replace.

I have the same engine and it is my personal favorite. These forneys are as reliable as an old time watch, they just keeping going and never die.

Thanks, but postage from Australia to USA is a little expensive for me at the moment.
I bough it secondhand/Ebay from Sweden, big mistake I know.
The original owner sent me a parts list and instructions of the upgrades he had done to it.
A Decoder was installed and the original electronic circuitry was dumped.
(But it does have it's original sound unit still)
As I said, because this engine is complex, and I do mean complexed, I'm to scared to pull it apart. (I'm a cowards yes)

Thanks, wish I was brave enough to dismantle the engine myself.
But everyone has told me that these LGB Forneys are the most complex locomotives.
And I don't want to risk breaking it more then it is now.

What a fantastic model! I wish I had one :)

Thanks, they are difficult to get since they are so popular on eBay.
But that could also be because very few were available to be shipped to Australia.
More appear for US only postage.

Here's a thought...maybe there's a switch on the loco you have to flick to make it sound as it passes over the magnet?
RayTheTrainEngine 2 years ago
Tried that, sadly didn't work.
I think it's a issue with the decoder clip thing in it.

Oh right.
Well I wouldnt really know since LGB isnt my thing, I'm an 00 scale guy XD

From what I know the Forney don't need a 9volt battery.

are you sure it sounds a bell?
