i pipes of peace was to poppy for a man of his age and talent mccartney does release3 some crap loved back to the egg to didnt like london town he should have stayed in wings
Neat song. Anyone here going to buy the 2010 remaster of Band on the Run? I am going to get the 2CD/DVD set for my dad. He is a huge Beatles and McCartney fan. I am going to get the 1 CD remaster for myself.
This is the only song that ever rhymes "salamander" and "answer." Brilliant. Well, that said, what other songs even mention the word, "salamander?" I want Paul to use "gecko" on his next album and try to find a rhyme for that.
@WilburyVision I agree with Back to the Egg - a fantastic album and one of their best - but I don't agree with London Town. It was good - but nowhere as good as Band on the Run.
@WilburyVision I don't think so. Band on the run is in a league of it's own. Maybe people just want to defy convention so say things like what you've said there. BTTE & LT have got some v.good songs on them that I love but they've also got some that just don't cut it whereas BOTR is quatliy from start to finish with only a bit of a dip at the start of the 2nd side. I'm on about the vinyl record for all you younger viewers!:).
I love this version.. I think it's better than the studio version. I agree that the whole piano demo tape sounds very much like Daniel Johnston's piano stuff..
@Jenzemannen Lol, it's hilarious. Paul is my favorite artist ever. But I think he was sort've thinking Fuck it. It has has no meaning, but I'm sure if people scrutinized it enough, it WOULD have some sort of meaning. Let's face it, Paul never was a great lyric writer. But I think the thing with him is, the SOUNDING of words. Look at Marc Bolan's words of T. Rex. What do they mean?? Who cares really?? They sound great! :)
I LOVE THIS SONG SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i have no clue why he picked salamander but it just makes it that much awesomerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!
@kubicapanis I love this song too... especially cause of the salamander reference! My big brothers bought me a salamander when I was little..... and I loved my little critter so much. So this song reminds me of good times with my pet, and of how much I just love Paul!
@beatlemaniac487 - A salamander is a fire spirit - it's passion so the person he was singing to was a passionate person and also inspires 'fire' in the heart.
Yeh you can say I'm happy with it. It's a musicians thing demo. Alway wanted to hear demos of tracks I grew up with. If you find more post them. Would be glad to hear them
Love the Demo version. I always love Getting Closer on the Back To The Egg Lp.I like the piano parts very much. Just printed up the Guitar Tab so I'll be figuring out tonight.

The line about my salamander always bothered me too. always wondered what it was about.
Back To The Egg was a great album. London Town only had 2 songs I liked. I've Had Enough and With A Little Luck.

Back To The egg is a Mcartney master stroke of an album...from start to finish....my personal fave!

People are overanalyzing the salamander line--apparently Linda used to catch and play with salamanders as a child and it was an in-joke.

you're right ,if I've to choose among Paul's album, think it'll be London town...though it's too hard to choose...depends on the mood we're in,...

I've always heard that the Beatles were influenced by Daniel Johnston.
Seriously, though, what about the first few piano notes on the beginning of the "Driving Rain" album, eh??? Pure Dan, circa "Hi How Are You!"!!! 1b2s
1nceBitten2wiceShy 3 years ago
Yup.. The first few notes of "Lonely Road" sounds like the beginning of "Despair Came Knocking"

Salamander could be for something or one that is slime, low, low to the ground, dirty...

Whoever this girl Sal Amanda is, I don't think she would appreciate being called dirty and slimy! - 1b2s

TheMantis1point0 - actually a salamander is known in folklore as a fire spirit.

Right on man, I knew that a snake is or could be a teacher or information such as a teacher but in america is could be evil.

glad u liked it. i don't like this particular version but the one that was all completed. thanks for commenting

well, yeah this version is not the best, although it is kind of interesting to see how the song built upon this to create the completed version.
