Mario Paint is basically a simplified version of midi, with wave samples as instruments. Think of midis as the performance of the song. If you include the limitations of 5 notes at once, generalized volume control, etc, it becomes pretty clear how simplified Mario Paint is, where in midi you can control volume, pitch modulation, duration, etc easily.

Of course, when most people think of midi they think of the simplified, usually crappy sound samples that comes bundled with Windows :)

Yes, I used to have the original mario paint myself, my point was just how far we're moving away from it. Mario paint is great because of the amazing stuff people have done with something so simple. It's like making art with an etch-a-sketch, it's impressive in it's simplicity, but once you start adding colors, or erasers, or other things suddenly it's no longer amazing in it's simplicity, it's just another painting.

@TheNdoki I kinda see what you're saying. This bears almost no resemblance to Mario Paint anymore. It sounds cool, but it just lacks that MP nostalgic value.

I like the ones done in MP Composer that make use of accidentals and the like but keep the instruments strictly to what was available in the original game. That's a quantifiable way to determine what MP Composer songs do and don't have nostalgic value in my opinion. :)

lol, you could do it the hard way or you could simply ask me how I did it. :P I edited the soundfont and set loop points for the Mario Paint sounds, which from there in the sf2 specifications I can extend notes, add fade, reverb, etc. Check my other videos for soundfonts that you can download.

I record a new segment and use Virtualdub to append the segment to the first video and edit it so its continuous. It might be tedious if you're not used to frame editing but it really isn't that hard.

the default high quality option isn't the same as fmt=18..fmt allows stereo playback, which has the huge quality in sound.

And the soundfont will be released once I master the dog and cat chorus. :)

basically..for the chorus I think I need...lots and lots of samples layered not exactly evenly, and slightly out of phase pitches in order to get the sound I want.

And in this soundfont I made the planes and cars slightly off phase from the center in both directions to give it a "fuller" sound.
