  • I watched this video with one thought, dont aprove Cha-Ching, and throw those other apps away too

  • I think there is way too many "one" click apps in the app store

It is crazy how the app store will allow a "one" click fart app (theres loads) which is funny but useless, yet it rejects an app that uses the volume buttons as to capture pictures whilst in camera mode, now thats a usefull app! the iphone camera has rubbish capture functionality, fumbling around to hit the capture button on screen! app store review process contradicts itself (sorry about spelling i'm typing too quick)

  • '5 minute' apps should all be wiped out. They are clogging up the app stores. I'm sure it didn't take you pretty long to make the 'ka-ching', and anyway it was probably a tool purposely built to market your book. I won't be having bad dreams tonight about Apple's decision.

  • Yeah...I bet you put a ton of effort into make that. Probably took all of 15 minutes.

  • Don't question Steve Jobs.

  • How come so many commenters don't understand, that the problem is consistency? It happens to complex apps with functionality, too, only this simple case demonstrates even better how arbitrary the selection is. Thanks for the video.

  • FUCK YOU!!!! r.i.p. (ivote) zezima. im deleting ivote right now. you think youre fucking hilarious with your fucking fart app, zezima is funnier than you'll EVER be!

  • Ok so the approval process has problems but your app is crap and so are the ones you shown I'm glad it got rejected because It does contain limited functionality and those crap apps are clogging up the app store making it hard to find good apps

  • One must stroke Job's ego ad infinitum to so much as get his attention

  • Steve job if u listening to this guy, don't let his junk in your store

  • Cha ching!!!! What a joke this guy is, how about do us a favour? Why don't u and all your crappy apps get the hell out of app store, it makes our life much easier to search for apps

  • @MW2mostwanted Hey I have a better idea. How about all iPhone Developers take out all of their apps from the store. Have fun searching for apps then.

  • cool video.. Some of these are free apps on the RawApps website

  • lol I personally don't think you should be allowed to clutter up the store with garbage applications

if an app clearly has a lot of time and or money put into it, then rejection shouldn't be taken lightly

at least 25% of the apps on the store should be taken off in my opinion

  • I just think there are too many daft apps on the iPod/iPhone as it is. Why the hell would someone want a single button app that makes one noise? It's very sad.

  • You mean

    'I ENTERPRISE, not Entrepreunise'

    otherwise quite funny.

  • no be an entrepreneur would be a valid statement, look it up, it relates mostly to business and a cant be assed explaining it lol.

  • that money is awesome but u can put it on cydia ill buy it

  • Shit app anyway

  • Haha! Thanks for the knock on wood app!

  • I love my iphone so much. It is white 16 GB. I am looking for more web applications. Can anyone

help by telling me where to search for a web based msn messenger? Thank you very much.

  • get nimbuzz its free and like the best web based app there is for social networking :)

  • i love my iphone 3gs but i dont bother really going to the app store most apps are useless and same as other apps

  • Steve Jobs sucks! Apple suck! Its a cult of applfites.

  • this is what you get for being part of the apple cult. u get screwed and they dont giva shit

    DEVELOP FOR THE ANDROID.

screw the apple screening process. I mean why the fuck should anyone ask apple to say "oh we think this is good enough"

this lame old apple monopoly model is old news. join the future. your creativity, your style.

    fuck apple !

  • You can probably make about 1/100th of the money you make on the android as you do on the iphone, why do it?

  • If this works out for you I'm going to have to make a video just like it. My idea for a drinking game app was rejected on the basis that it promotes drinking. Meanwhile you can find numerous drinking games in the store. Upon second sumission of my app I got a phone call telling me that resubmitting the same game for approval should not be done and that it will never be approved. When asking why other apps just like it were out there I was told they must have leaked through. Good luck.

  • All you haters out there, get a clue. The "minimal functionality" reason is a smokescreen. Apple's app store may be successful, but those that are developing even silly apps for it are shooting arrows in the dark when making the apps. This is PURPOSEFUL by Apple, and makes them an obnoxious behemoth instead of a user and developer friendly company. Steve Jobs can blow me.

  • please don't speak on behalf of real developers like myself. you are not a developer. you are an opportunist.

  • Can you do a "Tching Tching" app.

  • If there is already to many usless applications in the App Store, why put another usless one in it?

  • If you can't get it on the iPhone, would you perhaps consider putting it on the android market? Would like it on the droid :D

  • i am

  • CA CHING!

  • How about this, your app does have minimal functionality. Maybe instead of spending your time created a video about how the approval process is unfair you should instead work on creating apps that users can see some benefit from.

  • @robertchute The point here is not whether *this* app has limited functionality or not; that's not central to this developer's point. Maybe it wasn't clear in the video: what the developer of Cha-Ching wants is not for his app to be approved just in this instance, but for the app store review process to be more transparent. Developers and apps are what round out a great platform, and the app store approval process continues to alienate many developers with inconsistently applied policies.

  • Oh shutup. More often than not, the Top Sellers list on the app store are riddled with similar "useless apps". If "minimal functionality" apps are so unpopular, why are they consistently top sellers. Looks like iPhone users are telling you to kiss their asses.

  • I love my iphone so much. It is white 16 GB. I am looking for more web applications. Can anyone help by telling me where to search for a web based msn messenger? Thank you very much.

  • cachin!!! into your ASSS, wtf is that garbage app? i mean wtf!

  • I agree with Dargo331

  • I agree with him, I think there needs to be a consistant set of rules followed and presented for developers and app reviewers.

Not all apps should have to be complex to be accepted, just because it's complex doesn't mean people will enjoy it (or even function well).

Sometimes the simpler (and stupid) things in life are worth it. A friend of mine has a "Lighter" app on his iphone, worthless... absolutely, but still enjoyable to mess around with!

  • oh poor iFart dude! Boo-hoo!

  • Whiner! Why not spend some time developing a GOOD idea for an App.

  • this apps are stupid and must be rejected (all of them)

  • God this is sad.... But I agree with something: Why the aleluya app and the others were aproved?!

  • I'm also a frustrated iphone developer but my complaint is aimed at developers like you who fill the app store up with complete garbage - it makes me happy that Apple is at last taking the iphone seriously and are now rejecting such worthless apps as yours. Let's be honest, how long did this app really take to make - my guess is less than 1 hour tops!

  • Yes, Apple should allow ALL apps, but place these minimal functionality apps into a new category called iCRAP.

  • Bet it will be the new best and big thing to come.

  • the App Store MUST have 2 categories:

"PREMIUM" and "SMALL". All the small apps (like the kitching buton, fart, knock, multiple crap slidepuzzle and all other simple/crap stuff) should be on the Small category.

Why? Because it's totally unfair for all the other developer who spend months to realise a TRUE application/game with lot of features. Sorry Joel, but think about, your app should be accepted, yes but on the "SMALL" category. Two categories will be JUSTICE for both, dev and costumers!

  • haha Steve Jobs is not gonna watch this >.>

The app store is such a piece of shit now. Its clogged with so much crap. Android ftw

  • what a cunt i rated 0 stars

  • these guys are crazy, what a lame apps. come up with something more.

  • i must agree

  • from the start to 0:30 he sucks Steve Jobs' dick really really hard

  • iphone and ipod touch are two marvelous devices, I love them, I do not leave the house without them. The problem is that I have no choice but to carry around 2 of them because the battery life is trash...much like the macbook pro (That I sold for a PC)

Do something about that APPLE. Never going to mac again, biggest mistake ever. But the ipods are a MUST HAVE.

  • they did... the new mac books pros have 8 hrs of battery life now... 8 hrs continuous usage.

  • Thats what i'm talking about, I replaced 3 batteries that were supposedly their 8 hr battery and they were shit. Oh well though, back to PC and never going back. Apples O.S. was meh anyways and NOT hack proof.

  • Wow.

The "WOAAH" button is exactly the same thing as the "Ca-Ching". I am not sure if this video needs to be sent to steve jobs directly. I am getting tired of apps taking not only FOREVER to be approved but having one MINOR thing preventing it from being approved. And the reason for apps not getting approved is just getting more and more stupid.

I still love my iPhone but I hope that they come up with a better way to review apps and approve them. Good luck with your app.

  • "who can forget snow?" LOL

  • I don't think your spending a lot of time money and effort on a one button app that plays a sound.

  • wow such a amazing app cashinggg :D

  • upload it to cydia :D

  • i agree with whoever who said there should "Apple Approve" section and a lil corner for "Download at your own risk Disapprove" (DAYOR) section (for all the stupid, minimal functional, pornographic, R rated, etc app), maybe let the user rate/categorize them, no apple mangmt needed. but that DAYOR section should be free app, taking out potential $ conflict with apple, and up to dev to want to keep it there or not. i can see it generate new wave of iphone buying + underground i-app culture.

  • flosakura: I agree completely. I don't have an iPhone, or an iAnything for that matter, but I still recognize the importance of openness for any platform. Why do you think PCs buried the Mac? Openness. If the iPhone stays closed and subject to a rigorous and inconsistent approval process, then it's only a matter of time before it too gets buried by something like Droid.

  • your the idiot that came up with iFart? maybe they don't want to have more of those retarded applications that make the iPhone seem retarded.

Don't call yourself a developer. and you don't speak for me, and i have my own apps in the store.

  • i got ur cracked ipa lol

  • @935514595 we know there are thieves out there. Your integrity is your problem, not mine. And if you are thief, you probably need the .99 more than me. Enjoy iFart. :-)

  • dude is a joke, steve owns u, not me, so u are the 1 who need money to pay for wasted time whit apple

  • I'm going to count myself amongst the non-vocal majority of folks that think too many developers are complaining for BAD reasons. This is another one. Here's a QUICK FIX for your app. VERY SIMPLE. Just allow the user to customize the "ka-ching" button to produce 5 different sounds. Super. Easy. Fix. DONE. Resubmit iand you're golden. Trust me. Other got it with less? Boo-hoo. Thank god they're trying to asset quality control however inconsistent. ONE BUTTON APPS, JUST SAY NO!

  • @gryphondwb sure, we can do that. But you totally miss the point. the point is that apple has allowed other one-click type apps. So what's the difference?

  • I'm going to assume that they moved on from those similar applications, especially depending on the approval dates, policy changes, etc.

  • Too bad they did do the same thing with the IFart application

  • OMG More one stupid fart application over iphone is crap! man the apple store is full of crap like yours! Do something good!

  • @badawe perhaps you should familiarize yourself with our other work. iVote Mobile, The Mashable App, AT&T Jobs app, HammerTime, and several others.

  • I'd like a kaching button! Every time I win a huge pot in poker I'd press it!

  • @THEPROTEANSELF That's the idea! now you get it.

  • Awesome!

  • switch to android lol

  • Myb your $600 is not only his bsnss but all sys dvlpers applictn that had to submit has a limited functionality.Ithink Mr.Steve wants to control all system developers in making a limitation on it in ( cmptblties, accssblties ) and i believed that is strtgcal bsnss, bsnss as usual is't!..i know that bcz i'll hd been wrkng bfore in one of the sftwre house co. a dtbase accntng client base, the sme bsnss strtgy or same in common bsnss as usual! Bsnss is bsnss! bt anyway u cmmrcialize ur xperties!

  • @imate357... did your vowel keys not work? new keyboard? othr wse, y shld g t englsh clss

  • hey..body! YouTube Post Comment..has a limit characters & words to submit. so that's why....our subject is 'Mr.Steve" strategy! thanks...

  • You paid $600 for an iPhone? BWAHAHAHAH!

    l-o-s-e-r

  • @DumbDuck44 It's called being a pioneer, instead of a follower.

  • isn't the 3GS $199? and the 3G $99?

  • without a contract.. its in the $500-$600 range (3GS)

  • Jesus lol

  • totally agree man

  • absolutely

  • A Kaching button?? lol

this and all the other shown button apps really suck... id take them all out of the app store!!!

  • You're spending money, time , and resources developing a digital button that goes: "Kaching!"? That's pretty sad...

Also-- I know you crave some consitency in the app approval process-- but perhaps this trend in inconsistencies is a good thing; a sign of changes to come. No more useless crap for you headupyourass developers to knickle and dime us for.

You and Steve Jobbs should go elope; share some pillow talk.

  • A lot of you lost the point of what he was trying to make. I would not mind having the Ka-Ching or the Knock on Wood. With the way everything is going on because of our lovely government, I am sure a lot of people are going Ka-Ching and truly Knocking on Wood.

  • develop something that took more than a wipe of your ass

  • why don't you make something useful

  • They didn't deny your app for the reasons they are telling you. This is apple, they make electronic devices "cool" for people who know nothing about electronic devices. It's a business on a high horse right now, logic and reasoning won't work.

  • LOL at the hypocrisy of Apple fanboys bashing Joel. They'll defend their precious Apple to the death, even when it does wrong.

  • He Joel, I must say the Kaching button isn't the App i'm waiting for, but your story is great! Hilarious! Good luck having this App to the Appstore. Big fan :)

  • Awesome video! I love the iphone and the app store, though this needed to be said...again

  • Re the consistency, you are right. Apple should me more clear as to what is accepted and what is not. However, if this is a new policy, fine! The iPhone is an incredible device and unfortunately 95% of the Appstore applications are crap. And this has to change! Go Cydia if you want.

  • develop for the android

  • iFart is available for Android. But their current marketplace setup is aweful. hoping they get it right in v2.0

  • I hope your dumb app never makes it through the review process. It's apps like this that make the app store look like a waste of time, which is basically what your app is. You sir, are a waste of time. STOP DEVELOPING FOR THE IPHONE. You and the developers of all those other apps are turning the app store into a shithole. Obviously Apple is trying to stop people like you from releasing dumb apps like iFart.

  • i'd give your comment 50 thumbs up if i could!

  • I agree with Apple that this app has 'minimal user functionality'! And you aren't going to tell me that you've invested 'a lot of time and money' in developing this button that does only one thing. A child could build this app...

  • He's totally right.

    They have no porn, themes.

    I made iPhone Games myself.

    Believe me;

the approval process is a true HELL.

  • You sir are a complete waste. You and your ifart can get lost in another eco system. Sure App store has it´s flaws, but so does every other store out there. Apple and the REAL developers are doing a grand job, keep it up.

  • iFart mobile ? So it was this maggot who started it ! FUCK YOURSELF BITCHFACE ! YOU WANNA MAKE EASY MONEY YOU CUNTLESS MONKEY GO FUCK YOUR MOTHER AND DRINK HER CUM YOU FAGGOT ! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU ADDRESS THIS STINKING SHIT TO STEVE JOBS ??? FUCKING LOSER GO KILL YOURSELF YOU HOMO !

  • i wouldnt complain to steve he doesnt do the app approval process

  • Nice move!

  • Yeah, there is absolutely no consistency between reviews, and honestly, why does it matter? If it's a free app, who really cares if it has little to no functionality?

  • I think this video should 'App'eal to Mr. Steve Jobs:-) Good luck!

    ~Molly

  • Steve is probably laughing at this. So am I.

  • It is people like you, and your apps, that make the app store a god damned unbearable mess. Congratulations on getting your farting and bobblehead apps approved, maybe next you could make an app that is just a picture of a necktie - for people to hang around their neck!

  • We didn't make the bobblehead apps, that writer made an error. And we primarily focus on complex apps like iVote and the upcoming Gamedock.

  • Hi all iPhone developer, keep on your work. You all make the iPhone be the best mobile device ever. And I think Apple will make a better App Store for us, so DONT GIVE UP !!

  • Very well put, but I honestly don't think Apple gives a shit!

  • I think Joel's 100% right. Apple needs to be clear and transparent about what "level of functionality" is too little. If I were developing an app and looked for inspiration from what was already approved, I would might have made a similar app. And if Apple decided these "limited functionality apps" were no longer "good enough", they need to make that clear to programmers before they waste their time and money.

  • Joel, you are absolutely right. And this is getting extremely embarrassing for Apple and their lousy app store approval process. Great video.

  • the app store should have a section for approved apps and a section where questionable apps go to die or thrive... a simple "proceed at your own risk" button would warn users that the apps theyre about to see are not yet approved or suggested by apple... All proceeds go to the developer until apple decides they want a piece of the action... Once approved, Apple gets their cut as usual!

  • the trouble is that a section of 'questionable apps' is still a form of approval and some of those apps have had bad code that bricked phones, costing users a lot in time to get their phones back up and running. and cell phones are too vital in our lives now to mess with them in such a way. which is actually why Apple requires approval in the first place

  • Seems to be taking a while to even get approved to be a developer! Seems like a lot if waiting to try and be involved!

  • Joel, I'm going to load your video on to Steve's iPhone. I think he needs to see this. Good Luck, Amy Aguilar, Special Asst. to Steve Jobs.

  • How about embedding it on your blog? Can I borrow Fake Steve Jobs iPhone?

  • Why are you complaining? From the looks of it it took no more than 10 minutes to make that app. I'm glad it was rejected, maybe they are finally clearing some of the crap off of the app store.

  • you miss the point, but thanks for the nice wishes!

  • this video portrays you as a huge smart ass

I don't know you(I just stumbled here) but you

really irritate me...acctually.I never made it to your point

  • Too bad. It's a good point.

  • Yes the app approval processis inconsistent and apalling.

But I can also see where Apple is coming from. No offence, but apps like these are what is holding back the iPhone from becoming a serious, respected platform for applications and games. To browse through the app store to see the kerching button, the 576th tip calculator app, the "ask someone on a date for you" app is just rediculous. Please don't talk about time and effort for this app. This app could be made in 1 hour tops.

  • Apple is being dumb for sure. I dont understand why they dont let the market decide on these things. If an app is unwanted people are not going to use or d'l it.

Even though this app is no innovation, most innovation comes from ideas that most people thought were dumb. Why should apple get to be a brutal dictator on what ideas people want to try.

  • Very nice video man, I wish you talked about the approve time, They take too long to approve or reject an app. But your app sure should be rejected and not because Apple was accept shit like iFart in the past this mean they will always accept this shit forever.

You good programmer, make a nice app please and do not make crapstore more crap. they have 100,000 app most of this apps are farts, apple should do something appstore now smells so bad.

  • you do understand that they get like 1000 apps a day right now. so yeah it is going to take some time. which is why they are trying to add things like the status check.

  • 7 year old could make that app, its not appropriate to sell!

  • dear Joel.

Adobe announced that starting 2010 will be possible to export any Flash and ActionScript application directly from CS5 directly into IPhone run time, from a PC, no need for macs. Expect this button face very serious competition (tens of thousands AS developers) pretty soon. In short, looks that Apple, right now is not short of developers. BTW - chance are that you did not code the button but hired some guy on ELance as you extensively state on other clips.

  • You are right, but looks like its AIR on iPhone, so its not fully native although it looks native. An AIR layer is over a Cocoa layer, so the resources are going down. Also, nothing can beat OpenGLES and Quartz in this platform. Things like tweening and 2d motion will be easy on AS3

  • yea that's annoying, sounds like facebook advertising but even worse. It sucks that you have to fully develop the application and still have the chance for it to be rejected. I'm not sure how you would get around that though. Maybe just make the guidelines a lot more clear.
