  • He is so much better without the I think is an octavature

Love Nuno but this is not his best

  • How do you compare guitar players especially ones of differing styles? Steve Vai once said that every note that has been played on the gutar is like a snow flake no two the same.

  • Most underated shredder ever.... oops...and Stanley Jordan. There's plentyof overated ones...

  • Nuno .....very cool... really has a natural attack.

Worlds most underrated player, or should I say slayer.... of the guitar.

  • christ you're a showoff Nuno

  • All of you are critiqing Nuno, but none of you could get a job doing a bar gig in the middle of the desert... so whatever.

  • Nuno doesn't play with as much confidence as he used to. He's still really good... this solo was octaved out. Anyway... he seems to have a much better sarcastic sense of humor. Does anyone else notice how his head shifts around a bit when he talks about his playing now? I used to really worship this guy in the early 90s... now I just want to sit around with him and have a couple of beers. That's good though.

  • @LEOJ024 HELL yeah.

  • Hey Nuno, God called asking for his hands, give him back please...

  • @andres1203ecuador First you have to speak English.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheMajanful I don't understand broken English.

  • @TheGrantCave I dont understand your "brilliant" comment dude, anyway, have a nice day

  • Comment removed

  • @TheGrantCave ok ...have a good day..."teacher"

PD. did I wrote that right??

  • @andres1203ecuador Actually, no, you didn't.

    P.S.: it's "P.S." Hahahahahaha

  • @TheGrantCave ok, thanks for your "lesson", now get a life, asshole

P.S. Did you understand my english now

  • @andres1203ecuador Kind of, but more so, I can understand that you're MAD

  • or it is "understood", anyway, I think you get the message ;)

  • @andres1203ecuador No, don't go trying to correct a language you can't speak properly.

  • @TheGrantCave Don't try to make yourself important doing stupid comments about language on a music video. Now go fuck yourself.. loser

  • @andres1203ecuador Sorry, I couldn't understand a word of that.

  • @TheGrantCave of course, that's because y o u a r e a R E T A R D

  • Glad he is portuguese....

  • Speaking of Petrucci, could you imagine if Nuno hooked up with Portnoy and Rudess instead of Extreme? It's a Monster would be an epic 10 minute masterpiece, lol.

  • good technique but honestly this sounds terrible....

  • @MrBenjo2000 He is using octaver

  • @KazysBobelis I don't know what he is using but how he plays the guitar sounds terrible...

  • boring

  • from what video this clip is from?

  • LOL. People who compare two musicians are either jealous of both, or passionate about neither. Bow out morons.

  • @neurocosm

    Very true

  • @0:43...this is his signature, I *love* this way of shredding...

  • What issue is this from? Young Guitar, that is. Thanks!

  • Best rhythm player ever. If you disagree, you are wrong.

  • @DethByMyIbanezAxe Randy Rhoads was better!

  • @Soldano88 No. The way Nuno mixes lead and rhythm is much more creative than the way Randy did it. Randy's methods were quite stock, as far as that goes.

  • @DethByMyIbanezAxe well i wouldn't say one player was better than the other IMO randy was good at what he did, and nuno is great at what he does...don't get me wrong nuno's one of my favourite guitarists in terms of his rhythm technique and groove but i must admit there will be people who will prefer the style of other guitarists, not neccessarilly because they think they're technically better, but simply because they just prefer the way their playing sounds.

  • @DethByMyIbanezAxe Dude are you stupid? Have you ever heard of Max Norman? I totally disagree besides Nuno Is influenced by Randy ,George,Eddie And all the other greats that came way before him. I am sure of that.

  • @Soldano88 Just because they influenced him doesn't mean they are better. Your logic makes no sense.

  • @DethByMyIbanezAxe Ok yeah alright guy .Tone, technique, style,is all subjective!!

  • @Soldano88 Then why did you say Randy Rhoads was better? It's subjective, genius. Remember?

  • octaver isn't needed here (((((((((((((((

  • Interesting video. If I wanted to hear what an octave pedal sounds like... but I wanted to hear the guitar. It sounds like he just loves to play so much, he is testing it for "feel" and not really for the sound of the pickups. I do like the H-S-S arrangement; much more versatile. Floyd Rose trem, standard, though you notice he doesn't even have the bar connected. Does the world need another Nuno signature guitar? Or another signature guitar PERIOD? Not really...

  • I wish my right hand could work like Nuno's ...

  • anyone know what kind of pedal hes using?

  • @theaceofspadesjl Sounds like an octave pedal. Maybe an mxr blue box?

  • hey guys im rather new to playing guitar ive played acoustic for about 6 months and im going to start electric now so i have ordered a Schecter Omen 6 Extreme and i found an offer on the internet an N2 for 255 euros.. Shoul i buy that too??

    Greetz

  • Never compare musicians. These instruments really reveal the inner growth of that Being. Enjoy each ones journey. Comparing is like being a Judge or something. --One warning, this demo may be deceiving. ;-)))) BECAUSE if you buy it a warning should accompany it saying, "BUYER BEWARE THIS WILL NOT SOUND EXACTLY LIKE THIS NUNO GUYS DEMONSTRATES. TO DO SO YOU WILL HAVE TO REACH WAY INSIDE OF YOUR SELF---AND FIND IT." :-) Peace and Love. :-)))) Have a great Day. This was some try-out demo. WOW! <3

  • huh...i wasn't aware that that was considered music

  • awsome riff!!

  • i love the sound of that guitar. its almost like a perfected fender

  • sounded like a cat being strangled hahaha

  • Nuno has the best natural funk-o-metal feel...

  • I really don't like the sound he's using here. It doesn't sound like him.

  • My guinea pig's name was Nunu. ^^

  • nuno has the coolest decorations.

  • don't get me wrong nuno is a fucking amazing player but i think even he realised hed fucked this up a bit. Happens to everyone

  • @manonmagiccarpet That was note perfect.

  • @noahwayne if you think so

  • who is nuno?...

  • guitarist from extreme

  • A demo with 2 tons of effects make me laughing ! What about the guitar sound ?

  • @jaybee466 Check him out on the new live dvd and its proof that he is the greateset guitar player around. No effects needed at all. Check his acoustic piece from that dvd. Scary

  • @noahwayne I can't remember what was my comment, sorry. You know, i don't care of "shred". "THe greatest guitar player" don't mean nothing for me : I enjoy or not !

  • i got one ...great great guitar with the best neck ever.. but for the asking price ..it should come with a D-tuna

  • I love Nuno and all in his N series.

But to me, N4 is the best.

I have N2, and still look forward to getting N4 one day :)

  • do they make em with a fixed bridge?

  • no floyd only

  • I think the N4 in N.Z. is about $4500.00. I hate to think of the price of a N6.

  • Dave Martone is from a parallel invisible world..... unknown to simple mortals like u & i.

  • The riff is from the song "Waiting For the Punchline".

  • It sounds famiiar to Waiting for the Punchline. But is it the same? Isn´t Waiting for the Punchline a bonus song on the album of the same title?

    Awsome riffs there.

  • Is this riff from a song? If so where can I get it!!

Nuno is such a natural...very tasty licks!

    Love this guy's feel.

    NUNO ***** Five star

  • Is he on Crack?

  • What in the earth is that Effect hes Using?

    A cool Octave effect?

  • probably something like an analogue synthesizer pedal or something....

  • boss OC3

  • to say that petrucci has no soul just shows ur ignorance

  • Comment removed

  • oh yeah

see cuz i am totally ignorant. dude u don't ever know me so there's really no reason to insult me, it's an opinion and i can find so many other guitar players who agree with me

so do me a favor and go fuck yourself.

  • anyone who thinks that petrucci is better than nuno is out of their mind. Nuno has way better rythm and petrucci has no soul

and to that comment by beefcake

batio sounds like shit on clean and once again its all about how fast they can go

  • Nuno is such a natural. while I love Petrucci, Batio, Friedman, Vai, Becker etc.. Nuno has such a great mixture of tight metal rythm , powerful phrasing, funky chops, neoclassical technical prowess, etc.. He is my favorite by far, even though he probably isn't any better than any of those other virtuosos when it comes to just plain technical ability. Nuno is just so musical and tasteful. I just wish he hadn't teamed up with Gary Cherone... that guy just made the vocals so lame it ruined it

  • What I like it the end result. If you watch Nuno it's not going to teach you anything about playing your own music. But if you LISTEN to him, whatever you do will be much better. I love to start licks with a hammer on from nowhere instead of just sweep picking but I have to think "What would Nuno do?" or I will fall into the same old usual metronomic playing that most other guitarists do.

Same thing with Dave Martone. If you like Nuno you should check him out. He follows Nuno's advice.

  • I've heard Nuno talk about develpoing your own musical identity by figuring out how to play things "your own way"...which makes sense... but I also think you can learn exactly the way he plays from the tab along with others whom you emulate and you can still incorporate it into your own style. I have always resonated very strongly with Nuno's appproach to the guitar and have therefore tried to emulate his style... but invariably I synthesize it in with my other influences in unique way.

  • I think people like Nuno don't realize how gifted they are and some musicians need a lot of help. Guys like Nuno just hear stuff and play it - and that is there routine - I would still be playing Ramones songs if i did that.

  • @stevieVantanna: You do realize he writes his own music, right? So he doesn't just "hear stuff and play it". He writes his own stuff. He doesn't read music and he's completely self taught, and I'm sure that's how he taught himself...by hearing stuff and playing it, but your comment makes it sound like that's what he still does. WRONG. He's a musical genius.

  • @wfenio IMO NUNO is simply superior to the others petrucci and whatever modern shredders, he's freaking fast and technical, expecially in his older solos (80s era) , today he still palys fast but has that taste and that soul which gives his playing that sense of real classic, and his riffs are always so cool and creative, he's totally unique and super cool to look at.

  • @LuisCArenas Hi. You commented on something I wrote almost a year ago. For starters I did not say I was better than them. I have since taken an appreciation for Petrucci's playing. I don't think he has a whole ton of feel and I'm not crazy about his note choice over certain things, but I respect him none the less. Where exactly does it get you- telling me to stfu over the internet? I'm still opinionated and you just wasted energy on something you're not going to change.

  • @MrDeadeyes I didn't look on your post, sorry for that. I told you to STFU because of the way you commented it, like if you were implying that you had the absolute truth and sounded more like stating a fact than giving a personal opinion. Sorry about that, nonetheless.

  • what is the songname this riff from?

  • Waiting For The Punchline (at the very end, after a long silence, of the album of the same name).

  • Marshall Plexi <3

  • Hes a great player, but i hated that

  • come on, you guys shouldn't be comparing Nuno To John Petrucci...They are totally different players but they're both amazing.....every guitar player has his own style...

  • unless your herman li.

  • Comment removed

  • @jobrocker dude, petrucci sucks. nuno wins. petruccis picking is fucking terrible. nuno's is fucking amazing.

  • @jobrocker ...John who?

  • petrucci has weak nerd style tho

  • Anyone know wat model pedal the octave is???

  • octavater?

  • that is one awesome tone

  • just super original..that's it

  • the second one sounds a bit like the opening riff from seventeen by winger

  • His picking style is so awesome!

As for the guitar...it still doesn't beat the N4 (Personal opinion)

    NUNO IS GOD!

  • He's so underated,Nuno is an amazing player!

  • Why cant Fender make a guitar like this for half of the price after all it is a replica

  • This is waiting for the punchline riff mixed in with the solo run from Peacemaker die..

  • Nuno makes you wanna play guitar!!

  • @smchana very true, he has that effect on me all the time!

  • he's my inspiration

  • i dont get how people talk bout fucking batio or petrucci or whatever.. when this guy kicks everybody else's ass so bad..he is the only decent heritage after van halen..nuno is just too far beyond.

  • batio sucks ass he just plays fast and looks like he has a dead animal on his head. I Have to admit Petrucci is quite good but i dont like what his band plays. I have just started looking up this dude and he is simply amazing.

  • batio "just" plays fast?

you name one person in this world who could go "his speed" but still as "clean" as batio .. then i'd agree with you that he "just" plays fast

    c'mon

  • Jason Becker, Shawn Lane, Allan Holdsworth, Rusty Cooley

  • no, actually Paul Gilbert is also INSANELY AMAZING, Nuno is really good, u should check'em out playing together at guitar wars...

And also have you heard Mr. Big (AWESOME BAND) Gilbert composed a lot of arpeggios really similar to VH. And Petrucci isn't that fast, u should check out Malmsteen, or Impeleretti. Next time, get ur facts right.

  • petrucci isnt that fast?? Fail.

  • Petrucci isnt fast?! What about Bite of the Mosquito, Fatal Tragedy, or The Test That Stumped Then All?!?!?

  • I beg to differ, Petrucci is uber fast but he also writes songs. You know, melodies and stuff? So his songs may not be constant top speed shredding wankfests. He still has the abillity

  • holy shit this is like paul gilbert

  • He's all tiny and whatnot! That guitar looks like the size of an acoustic on his lap. Nice playing.

  • I like how one if his nails is black and the others a resilver. and he actually has baggy pants one, what a rare sight.

This man is fucking guitar God.

  • dude why the fuck do u care about what he is wearing?

  • Lol. It was just an observation, didn't mean to get you all worked up.

  • I believe thats his washburn n5 not n6 because the n6 only comes in black not cream

  • it's the N6. you have to look carefully but the bridge pickups are the L500 Bill Lawrence™ bridge pickups. N5 has Seymour Duncun® single coil pickups.

hope that cleared it all up. :D

  • Thanks for that info. I am looking for a new guitar, and the N6 is on sale new for approx $600-$700. Should I spend the extra money for a new N4 that is twice the price. Also, I just saw an NX6 used on ebay for aound $500. Any thoughts on that guitar. I read that the NX6 was discontinued but it looks nice.Any feedback would be great

  • for 600-700 it isnt an N6....N6 cost a cpl hundred more than the n4 which is about $2400.00

  • I just saw in a local shop an all black N6 that was listed for a little under $900. It had a black pickguard, stephens cutaway, double coil Bill Lawrence pickup and 2 single coils . Is this one different from the one that you are stating cost more than some of the N4's? Please help, because I was tempted to buy it right on the spot. I have seen N6's over 2k. Maybe this is a different model, N61 perhaps. i cant be as good as the 2k ones. thanks for any help.

  • i agree. i think the shop has an N61 that goes around $600-$800. I know the single coil wahburn pickups are crap, but that something I can switch out easily. Other than that, I dont think there is a huge difference between the 2 excpet the price.

  • numero nuno

  • Why can't he just play dry?

  • Ha!

  • yeah!

  • e' un mostro di bravuraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

    Nuno sei incredibile!!!

  • Sounds like my old N2 plugged into a bunch of fx lol. Tells me nothing.

  • This tone is a guitar plugged in a boss octaver

  • that tone is bad ass!!!!!!!!!

  • hell yeah!

  • the N6 is sooo good that I reached in my wallet and bought one! creme one like this one! small bodied strat-like body is comfortable and the neck is a bit thicker than the old n4s . really recommend the new neck!

  • and I sold my ring modulator...

  • Whatever you got for it was gravy! This tone sucks.

  • Anyone not happy with Nuno's tone in this video will not have to worry about that ever again. His current tour with Extreme, features him playing exclusively on his Signature Model N4 and Signature Model Randall amps. WOW!! I heard this combo live on Monday. Can't wait to own my own rig when it goes on sale in February 2009.

  • Has anyone played washburn guitars? i mean the expensive models. Because some years back when i was at school some friends of mine had baught cheap washburns and they were for shit. I wonder how the expensive models are doing.

  • yeah, i played an N4 at guitar center, and it was absolutely incredible. it holds its tune so well, and it is probably the most well-made guitar i have ever played. i plugged it into several different amps, and with every one of them, it produced Nuno's exact tone. if ya dont mind shelling out close to 2,000 bucks for a guitar, then buy it. you wont be disappointed.

  • Any guitar with a fixed bridge (i dont like tremolos) and expensive tuners can hold its tune. Im mostly interested in tone, sustain and feel (mostly). I am into low action ibanez type feel.

  • IMO, the new line of Washburn N series guitars aren't as good as the originals, and not worth the money. Really great guitars are all a matter of how well the neck is made - sure, different tone woods will make a difference in sound, but not as much as your amp, speakers, and pickups. The new necks on the N series of guitars feel a little unrefined. You can hear a '91 N4 in my videos.

  • well, the N4 is, in fact, my "number 1" guitar! check out my vidéos if you want to hear what she can do!

and try one N4, you'll be blown away

  • i own aboout 20 guitars and this N6 is right at the top when it comes to setup. I play this one mostly cuz it just feels the best for practicig anything. I might swith with on stage due to sound. But for practice, it is this!

  • he looks like keanu reeves

  • true =]

  • awesome sounding guitar....but you make pretty much anything sound amazing through a marshall stack...i freaking LOVE Nuno

  • the best

  • If you mean the phaser, Nuno uses an mxr phase 90

  • Actually im sure that effect is just an octave down with the distortion of the marshall head...

  • Nuno is using a BOSS OC2 or OC3 octave pedal ontop of his overdriven sound which is made up of his Marshall + a Pro Co Rat Distortion Box pedal.. :)

  • what pedal is that??

  • the fucking man.

  • Ths is great !! Where can I get this ?

  • on "waiting for the punchline" man!

    the last "extreme" record!

  • Im mean the video, lol. I have all of Extreme's albums apart from the new one, Extreme are amazing !! I love their music !!

  • ohh dear!sorry lol!

well, it was the dvd with a japanese magazine! i think it's young guitar, but i'm not sur 'cause i'm not japanese loool!

i've learn to play guitar with "pornograffitti" so, he is my ultimate hero!

    so, a japanes magazine! ciao!

  • I hear SAUDADES sounds like where Punchline left off
