No it's not illeagal. You'll void your warranty though as you have to hack your PSP in order for it to run PSX and other emulators.

Your going to have to get like a HUGE memory stick if you want at least more than 6 PS1 games. They are coming out with a 16GB Memory stick in March which is...300$ yeah... I guess its worth it if you want like your favorite PS1 games on your psp but still 300$ is a bitch.

I'd love to play Final Fantasy (PS1) games on my PSP, but I don't have a clue how to do it. I read a comment on here that told me to search for "eboot", but then I see terms like "homebrew PSP" and upgrades and I get really confused.

So, could someone just tell me how to get Final Fantasy IX onto my PSP? Do I just connect my PSP to the Internet, then go to a website and download the game? Is it that simple?

In a word; no.

Firstly you need to downgrade your PSP's firmware (the operating system your PSP runs on) to 1.5.

Then you need to upgrade a homebrew OS on it, in this case OE-A 3.2 or higher.

Then you need to own the game - download a cd image copier. change said file to iso, then save it onto a rather large memory stick; 1gb or higher will do you.

Eboots are psp software, i have several of them and it works

Make seperate folders for each eboot, label the folder what the game is, put the folders in the psp/game folder and you can have as many ps1 games as you have room for. Of course you will need cfw 3.71 m-33-4 to run them natively, or on earlier fw you would need a ps1 emulator, natively works with popsloader.

you do not need a ps3 at all thats bull shit head over to psp-hacks and download a custom firmware they look for autopopstation4 to get games onto psp of an origonal ps1 disc they have to be american discs to work properly or if you download a game just extract the eboot.pbp and and keys.pbp and put in a new folder named after the game like if its final fantasy 7 disc 1 put the file name as FF7 (disc 1) or summit like tht im currently using 3.30OE-A firmware and it works fine hope this helps

Its very easy to convert ps1 games to ur psp, but the problem is update ur psp to the newest update ur firm ware is changed and it will not support ur psx games. You will get a message it says TO USE THIS CONTENT MUST ACTICATE THE SYSTEM. That what happened to me. Dam it man i cant play and i know how to convert loool

Yes, you can make your own PSP copy from your PS1 discs. Technically, if you own the original game disc, its not illegal to have a copy. As for Firmware 3.0, you're out of luck, as far as I know, you need version 2.81 or below to be able to get the custom firmware that can do this.

each of the FF7 cds are around 650-700mb, so you can only fit one on a 1gig stick. What you'll have to do is play through the 1st disc, then, before it asks you to change discs, it'll ask you to save. Save your game, and then quit. delete the 1st disc on your memory stick and copy over the 2nd one. Then you can resume your game from loading that save.

I have a 2gig memory stick, as for a FF7 iso, I guess you'll have to try find an original copy or find one to download online.
