  • I happen to prefer a snare tone like yours for certain musical styles, but it's all a matter of preference. I wouldn't worry about these criticisms of your tuning man!

  • u need a over head :o lol nice kit tho :D

  • Sweet set. Nice playing. Although, your drum set paint scheme reminds me of a pair of argyle socks I have. They're definitely different.

  • SICK DRUM SET!!!!!!!

  • What size tom is the high one?

  • not to be mean or anything but sounds like your snare is off or just tuned kinda bad

  • sick set

  • sounds sweet

  • you need to get a good condenser mic, you cant hear your cymbals at all

  • U hit cymbals like a pussy

  • @grubbylalien1 You seem to be under the impression that a good drummer is determined by his use of bad grammar as well as his testosterone level.

  • About that snare drum.. I have two words 'St Anger'

  • Good played put try equalize the sound

  • you suck

  • get a metronome and learn to eq properly

  • Did you try equalize ?

  • i Like sound of toms

  • sort that awful kick drum

  • i can not hear the bass drum at all

    the snare is too loud

    get some overheads

but you are a good player!

  • overheads and a bottom snare mic

  • 3. Your toms have excellent tone. But they would likely get lost in a mix. Sometimes something that sounds like it has a little TOO MUCH attack to it on its own will actually sound just right in a mix of guitars and vocals. For stick attack, try around 4k-6k, and for more clarity overall, anything between 8k and 10k will do well. Overheads would also help capture more of the impact, but that may not be enough without having the overheads sound too harsh with the cymbals.

  • @GamingDrummer89 Thank you for the helpful suggestions! Try listening to some of my newer videos and tell me what you think.

  • ....if they are, then you should probably tighten them or if that doesn't help, put a mic on the bottom. Make sure both mics have that same imaginary "x" pattern to keep it in phase. Normally, if you have some snare response but need a hair more, you can boost the signal between 3k and 6k....I find this range to be the place where the brightness of the snares specifically is. The tone of your snare is pretty good, but you need way more snare sound for it to sound complete.

  • (continued) If two mics are out of phase (particularly if you use two mics on the same instrument), things tend to clash resulting in a less than satisfactory sound (there are plenty of videos and articles on the internet where you can hear the difference). The purpose of overheads is to capture the sound of the kit as a whole as well as give a bit more ambiance and realism to the sound.

    2. It sounds almost as though you don't even have your snares turned on. If they are not, turn them on.....

  • While I don't know even near everything that needs to be known in order to be a master mixer, I still know enough about mixing drums that I can give you a few good pointers.

    1. First off, you need to put two overheads, making sure they are in phase (make sure that they are located parallel to each other, and point the mics so that you could imagine a straight line coming from the pickup end of each mic....these "lines" should form an "x"). When mics are in phase, they sound clean and full.

  • @theshuttersound each to his own * :D

  • get overheads, and the snare sounds too much like a really high tom, you should try putting the mic on the bottom of the snare to pick up more of the snare sounds

  • put some hi frequency!!!!

  • make a hole in base drum nad get overheads and base little bit higher

  • yea man risen drums! good choice. im goin to buy a kit from them maybe next time i get a new kit.

  • what kinda drumset is that?

  • @mikemassagli It's a custom drum set made by Risen Drums. Check out their website, they make awesome sounding/looking drums!

  • snare sounds like the snares are not on

  • if your snares are turned on in this vid, mic the bottom head. i cant hear the snare response at all.

  • toms sound amazing

  • u shud turn up the sound on the snare and bass drum... but other then that great sound!

  • It doesnt sound like you betas are on at all. It looks like your playing well but could really hear it

  • The snare, bd and toms sound allrigth, but dude, get some overheads. You have to hear the cymbals too, and get some overall effect.

  • My ears just committed suicide

  • isnt it weird that your floor tom sounds higher than your rack tom ?!

when you like it - ok

  • @crackoish It's actualty deeper, just try to ignore the ocean of overtones. xD

  • dude those graphics are sick as fuck!! but instead of the sound rings i would try moongels they give your tom that deeper sound and also let it ring but yeah man excellent playing

  • where do u got ur mics going into??

  • nice looking kit. do you have your snares on? snare sounds really weak if they are.

  • kinda sounds like your playing under water

  • Dude, get some overheads. It needs to sound real!

  • me thinks take the tone of the bass drum, and give the toms, and ESPECIALLY the snare moar attack

  • awesome snare! :o

  • i love Sennheiser 902

  • sounds good but you need too balance the sound imo. i think theres too much toms and not enough cymbals and snare! good playing

  • sounds good but the kick drum could sound better

  • yo what do you connect the mics too?

  • i love this set but not the snare

  • do u use just mics and a mixer or what.i dont need to have my music go through a computer so i just need the easiest way to have my drums micd. please tell me how since i have no clue. thanks

  • @JeffEllsworth it depends what your price range is i have a tascam us 1641 and its 260 which isnt that bad cause its really good. and then you need mics obviously which are like 118 and then you just need the stands and other stuff its going to cost like 500 altogether nad then you use cubase le which comes free with cubase! :D or get the full one illegally which i dont recommend Le is good enough

  • love everything but the hi-hats are a little bit too quite.

  • Everythign sick i just dont like the bass drum

  • man, you must trimm the mics higher, and for al the bassdrum!!;-)

  • Like the snare! Hate the basss drun tho. Is there anyway to make it sound more crisp?

  • Love the drum kit :)

  • i like you snare , good sound

  • just increase the master gain its a little to soft and if there's to mush acoustic reverb put some blankets or something

  • @theshuttersound yea, and i'd also say to increase the gain on the kick mic too.

  • I thought the drums sounded awsome dude. Good work.

  • amazing sounds mate...just very quiet lol

  • wtf is this. i can only here the snare.

  • i can imagine its been said a million times, but that snare is the fucking sex! awesome sounding snare, what it s it?

  • what interface are you using or mixer? and what program to download this?

  • Sounds good, just a little muffled sounding for my tastes. Cool looking kit too, man!

  • what mics are they , they look like iSK ones

  • your toms sound amazing, the snare is allright, the cymbals sound pretty good but way to quiet so i guess you don't have overhead mics

  • what mics are you using? im looking into drum mics and these sound really good

  • Yeah Need Cymbal Mics, Apart From That Great Sound From The Drums

  • @theshuttersound No worries man.. lol - Pop by and have a listen to my kit UN- MIC'd lol - Click on my name , just put up a new drum video - Crank it to hear my kick ! lol

  • If you click my name and watch the video I have posted - you will hear what drums are supposed to sound like when they are mic'd lol

Take that pillow out LOL - jokes..

  • check ur bass mic. it sounds muffled.

  • Bass drum sounds like its tuned too high man. Check Bob Gatzen's bass drum tuning tips. Will get a heaps fatter sound

  • dude, you need to get some overheads, i use audix f15, i don't think they make them anymore!

  • This sounds awesome. Just need some overheads and you're set.

  • Hey Mate May I Know What's The Kick Mic Is? Appreciate :D

  • It's a Sennheiser 902. It's an awesome mic, I barely have to EQ/Compress it.

  • @theshuttersound you really should

  • @theshuttersound actually i think you shoulad more compresion to the bass get some over heads and mic the bottom snare and probably get a job to buy all that

  • Decent sound-

Its good but it's not my kinda sound- just a matter of opinion- it's a bit dry for me, maybe something a bit more fluid, rugged? :P

  • realy nice sound just get some overheads

  • @freestylefilmsinc yea your right . if he used overheads it would sound 50% better

  • nice drum soubnd

  • Ha! I recorded this before I knew anything about compressing. All my EQing thus far has been with headphones that I recently discovered are inaccurate the true sound. Expect better quality on my upcoming video.

Also check out other drum kits from Risen Drums at: Risendrums. com

  • is that a pacific kit in the background?

  • Yeah haha! I love that kit.

  • Yeah, that's the kit i have. And i agree. It's pretty stellar!

  • @theshuttersound

EQ and Compression are really tricky to get down pat. I learned this the hard way. I work sound at my high school theatre, and I do quite a bit of recording on my own and the one major thing I have learned is that EQ is really meant to highlight and tone-down certain frequencies to balance differences in mics and speakers. EQ is not meant to add what was never there. So mic placement and good mic selection is key!

  • @theshuttersound

Also, with compression. Compressors are meant to smooth out and improve the harmonic content of a track. So if you get a great sounding track, it'll probably sound ten times better with a good compressor. Compressing takes ALOT of time to figure out on your own. So if you are completely new to compressors, I recommend talking to an seasoned engineer who has been recording professionally for a good amount of time.

  • nice like the equalizin. idk if u hav tho so just turn up the kick a lil.
