I agree that this interviewer was rather monotonous, but fuck you all. He's not Oprah, but he was nice, quiet and polite and he let both Daniel and Gabriel speak about their projects without censoring or condensing the conversation, which is more than you can say for heavily tampered tv interviews. This was an interesting and justified interview nonetheless.

It's really a marvel who Daniel Johnston is, how he conquered his inner demons and never gave up on his one true love. Artists like Kurt Cobain or Ian Curtis sadly cracked under the pressure and killed themselves. Daniel may have been in an asylum for a while there, but he never killed himself. And in modern times, he's doing so much better; you can just tell. He's stronger than other artists. I think that's why I like him and his music so much. He's just a great person over all. :)
The interviewer is horrible. He condescends his responses with his monotonous uhuh's, yeah's, mhm's, okay's, and right's. He seems completely uninterested in his interview, like he's going through the motions.
daniel must be on so must medication..it's hard to concentrate on a deep conversation especially when someone is asking you deep questions..those meds destroy people, but also save them. excellent that daniel still feels motivated and creative!!!! ^_^

Daniel is actually saying some of the most sane, confident, joking, and reasonable stuff he's said in years (despite the other guy's disinterest). It's one thing to create brilliant music, but to hear the musician talk INTELLIGENTLY is compelling and satisfies the other half of me.
Good line: "My songs are kind of weird," he admits. And we all know they're not "normal", and of course we also know they're great, and it's great to have him acknowledge it and be okay with it as his saner fans are.

@clayjammusic everyone is entitled to their opinion, but, listen to some of his early albums and there's no doubting he is a creative superpower. genius is only a label placed on him by others but saying he can "express his feelings" is really trivializing his talent, his body of work is as, or more impressive than a lot of other folk artists that have been placed in the same category

Daniel Johnston should not be treated any differently than the next man. I am aware of his mental condition. I am sure he is quite aware of it as well. Although the interviewer blows Doberman Pincher. This interview helps Daniel stand out and help many fans feel Daniel's sincere personality, which makes fans love him all the more. Thank you for that Mr. Interviewer Douche-bag with a beard and a hat who says "really" and "uh-huh" and "okay" a heck of a lot. As I'm watching this interview and as I'm being annoyed the hell out of by both of these two guys, I keep asking myself, "How would I act if I got to talk with Daniel Johnston?" To try to be too sincere might lead me to be too serious like the guy on the left and to be too loose like the guy on the right would be to come off like a cocky brat. lol maybe I shouldn't be so annoyed with these guys if the only "right" way to act is generic.

Daniel is actually saying some of the most sane, confident, joking, and reasonable stuff he's said in years (despite the other guy's disinterest). It's one thing to create brilliant music, but to hear the musician talk INTELLIGENTLY is compelling and satisfies the other half of me.
Good line: "My songs are kind of weird," he admits. And we all know they're not "normal", and of course we also know they're great, and it's great to have him acknowledge it and be okay with it as his saner fans are.
