  • Bring back the geat years of how life was...peace be safe larry

  • I know an Anti Semetist who's called Jennifer Jew-nipper. She was known to bite jewish people. She's now in a mental institute.

  • it´s reminds me belle and sebastian

  • this man is lord voldermort. He's wearing a wig.

  • what does the ending lyrics translate to?

  • @ChristopherH1985 Not positive, but I think it's the same lyrics, just in french, as I hear mi amor....whatcha doin' Jennifer my love, etc. Love the song anyway.

  • @ChristopherH1985 The ending lyrics translate to the first verse.

  • Donovan wrote this song for his girlfriend Jenny Boyd the younger sister of Patti Boyd who married George Harrison.

  • This song is a bit too sappy. It needs some screaming guitars and some back up singers in go-go boots ....

  • i remember having this song on a huggies cassette that my mom ordered since it had my name

  • i named my pet platypus after this song, i actually bought it on my vacation to juniper, so thought it suit well. Couple years later i bought a couple of alpaca and actually named everyone of them Jennifer, all 83 of them. Then last year I bought a toaster oven and a culligan water dispenser and named both of them Jennifer. Creative Consulting was done by Bilb Ono. Thanks Bilb.

  • @low72 ; Jennifer, is that you?

  • I'm named after this song, too!!

  • I met and interviewed this man in 1982. Peace Sunday Rose Bowl. I was a fan and didn't know what to expect. WOW. He was intelligent, funny, kind, and very well read. Sometimes your idols do not live up. Donovan did. He was a joy. Thanks Donovan for a great chat and for opening up to me! Cynthia

  • My parents knew him from Scotland, bought me a little read cap when i was 4 years old just like the one Donovan wore!

  • I consider myself a flower child of the 1960's and Donovan is one of my all time favorite artists of that era. I've subscribed to your channel. Thanks for sharing all your great videos!

  • I named my daughter Jenifer. When I went to register her birth I didn,t know how to spell Jenifer, was it 1 n 2 nn's 2 ff's ph. The registrar pulled out a big book with names in it. Apparently Jenifer is the old English way of spelling it.

  • @madbob5a why doesn't anyone talk about this song & not other dribble not related to th singer & the song.

    Absolutely lovely.

  • my daughter name Jennifer after this song.

    Jennifer my love.

  • @kiepwnok He is, though I can't remember the title of the episode. But Miss Juniper became Lisa's new music teacher and Skinner fell in love with her.

  • i remember first time round donovan is a real musican superb

  • were donovan and michael sarazin seperated at birth ?

  • How about naming your daughter "Juniper" since you love this song SOOO MUCH...Didn't think so...you fucking Hypocrites!!!!

    :)

  • @freedomland11 Huh?

  • I, too, named my daughter, after this song. It always made me smile when I heard it. My favorite Donovan song. I loved that era of music.

  • I was named Jennifer for my fathers love of Donovan. He was very adiment that his first born daughter would be named Jennifer. Today marks 13 years of his death. Miss you Daddy xo

  • Was this the same song from that mr magoriums wonder emporium?

  • @trevgoodchild Yeah, it is. Sounds like Mahoney is playing the last half of the song when we see her.

  • The movie "Election" brought me here!

  • I feel that if I made fun of Donovan's hair or something , he'd start to cry, and write a song about it.

  • @MrRebeltildeath1 Nah, he'd probably write a song so sad that it would make YOU cry, and then he'd escape. It's his natural defense against predators, like when squids shoot ink at you.

  • My name's Jennifer and my mother has sung this to me all my life, but this is the first time I've actually heard it

  • One of my all times Favorite

  • Donovan is fantastic, love him and his music.

Has "poke at the pope" been posted ??? Donovan was funny at times.

  • That's why my daugther is called Jennifer. Peace out.

  • what movie was this in??

  • a no a girl with this name am going to start calling hir juniper and when she says why are u calling me that a will tell hir to poot this song on good one lol

  • This song was on the movie Election

  • @MrEclecticity People who have no talent for anything whatsoever, or who haven't achieved anything in life are usualy the first to throw very smart comments or critics. Let your voice be heard again When your name is as famous as Donovans, and not before. Nobody is interested in a nobody like you.

  • Song reminds me of my sister. Her name is Lorraine.

  • @Kevin90028 ...my daughter's middle name is "Jennifer"....partially after the song. I'm just glad neither grand-daughter is named "Beyonce". The further we get from the 60s the more I'm glad to have been there.

  • smooth voice

  • Skinner in love. Awesome.

  • Donovan was cool.Very cheeky litlle monkey for sure.

  • Beautiful feel-good song. Just what Donovan is best at. Take it for what it is!

  • This is just lip syncing to the backing track.

  • Donavan for President!

  • i heard this song once while i was carrying my oldest daughter and seriously wanted to name her juniper. Her dad and my parents convinced me it was weird and inappropriate. Lol a gazillion other people named their girls jennifer that year. Sorry i listened to the conformists, baby. we both know you are truly juniper at heart...or pomegranate ... depending on your mood. lol

  • What a wet load of nonsense! And this while the world was falling around our in 1968. Shame on you Donovan!

  • @MrEclecticity

Not everyone needs to be an activist in their music all the time. Sometimes all you need is a silly pop song to give you three minutes of respite before you put shoulder to stone again (especially when the world is falling down around you).

  • @MrJDFrog I would agree that sometimes I need something light and entertaining but this is pathetic. It might win the heart of a 5yo but not that of the J Boyd. Also, as far as I am aware Donovan never wrote anything remotely 'activist', never created anything that wasn't derivative and never sang anyone else's song more expressively than the original.

  • @MrEclecticity

I always found Riki Tiki Tavi to contain a decent message, thinking of one just off the top of my head. (Not really activist so much, true, but it does display a healthy skepticism of government). And Universal Soldier, while a cover song, addresses some pretty serious themes of war and ideology as well.

Again, these are just a couple off the top of my head.

  • @MrJDFrog Is that really all that you can come up with? So he was once a bit sceptical of government and also sang a cover of a Buffie Sainte-Marie song that fails miserably to come close to the poignancy that she achieves in the original. As I said previously, 'What a wet load of nonsense!' and that goes for not just this but every other offering by Donovan.

  • @MrEclecticity I wasn't trying to start a fight, nor am I a Donovan scholar familiar with his full catalog, lol. I just happen to enjoy a few of those "wet loads of nonsense" every now and then. (He's definitely no worse than the vapid pop stars of today.) He's no activist, to be sure. I won't argue. And I conceded that one of the songs I could think of was a cover, but again, this was just two that immediately popped into my head. I haven't put any more thought than that into it.

  • @MrEclecticity

Just to be crystal clear, I'm not trying to hold him up as some kind of activist beacon. Just pointing out that I can appreciate his pop drivel for what it is. And when I want serious activism (and good music), I'll listen to Billy Bragg or Woody Guthrie.

  • @MrEclecticity i am sick of reading about your catfight one likes don the other just likes a few of his songs ...500 words of bollocks from both of you and neither of you are deserve to discuss donovan phillips leitch...if you dont like don why dont you go on billy bollocks bragg fan site (if he has one ) and you ( the other antagonist ) just shut up and talk positive the both of you take up too much space here talking bollocks

  • @whittingham4665 Then you just need to stop reading it and making stupid comments. This reply to your inanity is my first posting here for at least five months.

  • @MrEclecticity Donovan never tried to be an activist and never claimed he was - though he did cover the Universal Soldier. He made mellow songs, songs with a nice mood and a good vibe which people would like to listen and chill out to, not songs which made people stop and think about some message. For that kind of thought provoking stuff there was already someone who did it better than anyone else in Bob Dylan, Donovan represented a wistful, non-important, silly side of music.

  • @11nytram11 He was singing this sort of trite nonsense in at a time of immense tragedy in1968, the year that saw the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy.

As I said previously - '....as far as I am aware Donovan never wrote anything remotely 'activist', never created anything that wasn't derivative and never sang anyone else's song more expressively than the original.'

  • @MrEclecticity So, your upset with him because he wasn't a social commentator? So what if he wasn't? Not everyone had to be at the forefront of political activism and criticising him because he wasn't an activist even thought he never claimed to be one nor tried to be one is rather harsh and unfounded. So what if he didn't make music that commented on the tragic events of 1968? There was nothing that said he had to.

  • @MrEclecticity Why single out Donovan for criticism for not making music that commented on tragic events in World in the 1960's? He wasn't the only musician who wrote silly, nonsense songs, who didn't write anything activist or try to perform many activist songs. It just seems to me that you're trying to view him as the British Dylan - the voice of a generation - but he never was and tried to be.

  • @11nytram11 What evidence do you have for thinking that I'm trying to view Donovan as the British Dylan? Nothing could be further from the truth. I knew that he was a fake from the moment he turned up in 1965, with his Dylan cap and guitar sticker reading 'This Machine Kills' (a la Woody Guthrie).

The sticker on Guthrie's guitar said that it killed fascists. What did Donovan's guitar kill? Authenticity perhaps?

  • @MrEclecticity The fact that your trying to pass Donovan off as some thrid rate Guthrie/Dylan-esque activist by comparing him to them. Donovan was never a Guthrie/Dylan type singer/songwriter, he never tried to pass himself off as one either. His image may have been similar but he was a hippie, a beatnik whose music was wistful nonesense. There is no comparison between him and the Dylans of the world because he was never that type of artist.

  • @MrEclecticity Your criticising him because he looked similar to activists and was lumped in with them but didn't really do anything to pass on some meaningful message. That criticism overlooked the fundamental truth that Donovan never tried to pass on some meaningful message in his songs but tried to write fun, easy to listen to songs for casual enjoyment. He didn't live in the political world the Dylan types did, didn't work there and didn't have any impact on it.

  • @MrEclecticity

chill out...forget the image, the stuff written on the guitar, the way he held his cap etc.etc......

listen to the music....Donavan is authentic

  • why isn't this man at Glastonbury 2011 ?

  • @moonboots69 ahhh I see you Troll.

  • @moonboots69 I hope that he's there in 2012 ;-)

  • @MrEclecticity if he is, he'll be playing to a field full of cows & sheep & nothing else... there isn't a Glasto' in 2012, Eavis is taking a year off... Lets hope for 2013 ?

  • @moonboots69 That's exactly why I suggested it. Didn't you see me wink?

  • He looks like Peter Brady on the Brady Bunch

  • Great video... My favorite part is the 5 seconds after a song is over when the artist is not performing and reacts to the audience and that part is always cut off. Damn.

  • GAY MUSIC????? WHY???

  • @MissJensk1 Dead is the new alive. If you think he is dead, you see dead people, like the movie Sixth Sense. You are the dead one. Murdered people are bad.

  • This sound reminds me of what Bell and Sebastian are doing.

  • darn it's a lip-synched performance. too bad

  • I don't know what it is about this song, but I love it so much I can't stop listening to it!

    Very elegant and beautiful.

  • At first thought it was Belle and Sebastian who are also from Scotland but more from the late 90's, so informative the Simpsons are!!

  • @pcerritos Donovan was Irish laddie.

  • @ScotAbenaki i think you'll find he's Scottish..born in Glasgow
