For me this game is like a life in a prison when you first arrive in there EVERYBODY is looking to make you their bitch and your only chance is to fight.

for those of you wanting a comparison to skyrim, my honest un bias opinion is that dark souls is a better game. Yes skyrim is good but very repetitive especially after 50 or so dungeons and after about 4 or 5 dragon kills the excitement of killing a dragon fades.dark souls has so much more to offer you if your willing to go that extra mile and persevere. Every enemy has been amazingly created, the imagination of the designers is unreal! they honestly scare the s*** out of you 1st time through!
you know what they should call this game..."youre going to die so many fucking times its just ridiculous how many times"... its like they designed this game to just make you die. i loved this game though cuz it was a challenged. but in summary of gameplay youre going to be bashing your system controllers the game tv etc any object in the same room as you will be stuck in drywall or launched into your front yard.
This is the first game where I have played 30+ hours on single player and hope that it does not finish anytime soon. I hated this game when I first bought it but once you pass that first wave of stress you will love this game for all its glory. BEST GAME OF ALL TIME
This game is awesome and honestly its not that hard once you learn how the game works, I struggled big time when i first played, got punished for every mistake, but finally beat it at around 70hrs. I just started another character a few days ago and it took me about 2hrs to ring both bells! Those were the best 2hrs I've had in this game yet!! Putting everything I've learned to the test and taking souls like a boss!
@01Wrong01 Yes and no. Monsters get harder as you advance through areas. If you return to an area you already cleared the monsters should be easier to kill, since you've gotten stronger. BUT if you get careless any enemy, whether you can kill them in one hit or otherwise, can still kill you! Especially if you let them gang up on you.
@Antrix32 you seem like you beat dark souls. Is it normal for me to be 30 hours in and be on that spider queen boss? I really dont like the back tracking. It feels like im making no progress. or should i just keep going?
For 30 hours in, being at queelag is fine, i only beat the game at 80 hours in or so. I suggest just keep going. After you kill the spider queen, and ring the bell, the gates to that giant fortress(sens fortress) will open and that is the next area. Remember, after you kill that spider queen boss, you have to ring the second bell in the area behind her, a cutscene will show you where to go next.
This game is hard as fuck. I have heard it was hard but I bought it thinking "it can't be that bad" and it kicked my ass. I'm still stuck in undead burg.
Godzilla - yes this game is worth getting!!! Yes this game will crush you!!! yes this game will make you want to give up!! yes you will die!!!! but this game is immense!!!! this game makes you hairs stand up on the back of your neck!!! the fulfilment and joy of completing this game is like no other!!! give it a go that is all I can say.... @MultiSheepsheep Most Japanese RPGs aren't developed for the PC. There are a tons of JRPGs you would probably enjoy on both consoles if you looked around. Its just demons souls got lucky with being a cult classic thus increasing hype for this game :P
@MultiSheepsheep They are more ill informed than stupid. It is that the Japanese gaming PC market is far more slim the western market. They have tried to tackle different cultural differences by also porting the game to Xbox. But at the time the publishers didn't comprehend the PC western market. But now that PC gamers have spoken their thoughts, Namco Bandai are currently contemplating a PC release :)

@fivec3nt I would go for Demon's Souls first, it's a good training ground for Dark Souls. If you want to have fun and totally break the game you can duplicate boss souls very easily, meaning you can level up to a ridiculous degree. That said, this is the best time to play Dark Souls because online is booming right now. Dark Souls simply has more of everything and has given me more hours of enjoyment and satisfaction than any game I have bought in the last few years.

@directorlog The gameplay and crushing difficulty are so expertly crafted in this game. It can crush your soul or make you feel like the biggest badass in the world. This game is for people who want an actual challenge. Not a cake-walk.
@sboninja12 Halfway out on the bridge there is a staircase. Go down there and in one of the doorways and kick down a ladder. Then you have a nice shortcut from the second bonfire. Or you could run under the drake and there is one there.

@jokamutta Demon's Souls is a great game, and if you are new to the Soul's franchise, I highly recommend you start with it.
Overall, Dark Souls is a complete and total upgrade to Demon's Souls. The bonfire system was a good idea compared to the central hub "Nexus" on Demons... It makes the game feel like a singular world, which it is.
@jokamutta One thing I will say though. The atmosphere of Demon's Souls seems a bit more epic. Not really sure why. Maybe because it was the first "Souls" experience for me, so it will always be the most epic... but for me... Demon's has the better atmosphere of the 2.

I have a question... right now I have 34 Strength 34 Vital 12 Dex 16 Attune 30 Endurance (whatever resistance a Pyro Starts with) 50 intelligence and 8 Faith. I rape pretty much anything (Killed Gravelord Nito with three shots and Pinwheel in two) so I'm thinking of leveling up my Faith to 50 so that I can use all the random miracles I picked up in my recent journey through the catacombs and lower anor londo. is this a good idea or should I put more points into Vital, Strength and Dex? X)
You can call other players (white phantoms) to aid you in your open world if they volunteer for it. Black Phantoms are players online who invade your world to try to kill you.
You can discover and join clans called covenants in the game. They can give you special loot, abilities, and can tweak your online play in a number of ways.
Don't worry about smacking your sword on walls and making it blunt. Nice teleport lock on with the Plunging Attack. Don't blame not using a guide on being unable to find the secrets.
I've heard that it is a lifetime milestone to beat this game... sounds like something I need in my breakfast... Skyrim is a great game, but hellishly (unplayable) bugged on the PS3. It is also extremely boring, with all my sexual legendary weapons...
You can play this game without a guide is possible, the only thing is that you can miss SO MANY things. I do watch some videos of walkthroughs, but only to make me aware of what I should be expecting in the zone I'm entering. I think I would never have discovered how to upgrade your estus flask without a guide, and I've already wasted one fire keeper soul. Anyway, play the game the way you want, as long as you play it :P because this game is frikin AWESOME!

so with all my babling, all im saying is, DKS is alright, but IMHO not better than DS. I dont think DKS is worth a full $60 for admission. I think SKYRIM is the better choice because of all its great content, and even thought the combat system feels a little floaty, but this is far outweighted by its immense content and gameplay. Im a true demon souls fan, but sadly i think DKS is nowhere near its predecessor, in both story, and graphics. DS felt more mysterious, with more depth to it.
@fortunate3232 Just because it's not as hard doesn't mean its not as good. I like a challenge, but if its almost near impossible I don't think that makes the game better.
ill be making some videos later to prove how easy DKS is in comparison to DS. In these videos i will prove that i wont die once through out the game. Where as in DS i still die every now and then. My first playthrought didnt feel challenging, and i immidiately found patters that told me if i should be in an area or not. My rule was, if i died more than 5 times fighting average enemies of any specific area then it meant to me that i wasnt supposed to be there.
@fortunate3232 also i havent used any guides or online help. obviously my first playthrought i died few times but that was only because i was in the process of understanding each area, until my character found the area where i least died in. This was a pattern that guided me to know what areas to go first and which to avoid. On my second playthrought(not game plus) i probably died twice in the entire game. after my 3rd playthrought(not game plus) i didnt died once.
I cant believe people find this game so hard. i found this game to be easier than Demon Souls. The reason for this is because unlike DS, in DKS you can break most enemies defense with a kick and then hit them with any kind of blunt weapon that makes the enemy dizzy, or throws them of balance for a few seconds allowing for spam strikes, this feature alone made the game worlds easier than DS. now any enemy that didnt have thick armor was easily dispatched with spears. DS is better than DKS
@fortunate3232 DRK isnt anywhere near as good as DS. DS graphics, game flow, story, online PVP, battle tactics, and combat is far superior to DKS. Which brings me to another point, i think the huge lack of content in DKS made me realize that skyrim would have been a better choice. Even though DS wasnt story wise stellar, but at eh very least gave you far more story than DKS. i dont know if it was because i became proficient in DS, that made me see DKS toooooo easy.
@fortunate3232 now on the DS combat is superior to DKS statement, i say this because although DKS has more moves this in it self doesnt make it better than DS. the reason for it is because both the kick and jump attack in DKS makes the game way too easy. Where as demon souls, you where forced to find an opening and most if not all heavy armored enemies where hard to find opening. Yes i know you could break enemies defense with the shield bash, but it was hard to accomplish.
Not a triple A title?? Bullshit! If anything this game deserves a AAA+ and then some! this game is flexible and is challenging like how a game should b!

@jokamutta One thing I will say though. The atmosphere of Demon's Souls seems a bit more epic. Not really sure why. Maybe because it was the first "Souls" experience for me, so it will always be the most epic... but for me... Demon's has the better atmosphere of the 2.

I have a question... right now I have 34 Strength 34 Vital 12 Dex 16 Attune 30 Endurance (whatever resistance a Pyro Starts with) 50 intelligence and 8 Faith. I rape pretty much anything (Killed Gravelord Nito with three shots and Pinwheel in two) so I'm thinking of leveling up my Faith to 50 so that I can use all the random miracles I picked up in my recent journey through the catacombs and lower anor londo. is this a good idea or should I put more points into Vital, Strength and Dex? X)

You can call other players (white phantoms) to aid you in your open world if they volunteer for it. Black Phantoms are players online who invade your world to try to kill you.
You can discover and join clans called covenants in the game. They can give you special loot, abilities, and can tweak your online play in a number of ways.

You can play this game without a guide is possible, the only thing is that you can miss SO MANY things. I do watch some videos of walkthroughs, but only to make me aware of what I should be expecting in the zone I'm entering. I think I would never have discovered how to upgrade your estus flask without a guide, and I've already wasted one fire keeper soul. Anyway, play the game the way you want, as long as you play it :P because this game is frikin AWESOME!

so with all my babling, all im saying is, DKS is alright, but IMHO not better than DS. I dont think DKS is worth a full $60 for admission. I think SKYRIM is the better choice because of all its great content, and even thought the combat system feels a little floaty, but this is far outweighted by its immense content and gameplay. Im a true demon souls fan, but sadly i think DKS is nowhere near its predecessor, in both story, and graphics. DS felt more mysterious, with more depth to it.

ill be making some videos later to prove how easy DKS is in comparison to DS. In these videos i will prove that i wont die once through out the game. Where as in DS i still die every now and then. My first playthrought didnt feel challenging, and i immidiately found patters that told me if i should be in an area or not. My rule was, if i died more than 5 times fighting average enemies of any specific area then it meant to me that i wasnt supposed to be there.

@fortunate3232 also i havent used any guides or online help. obviously my first playthrought i died few times but that was only because i was in the process of understanding each area, until my character found the area where i least died in. This was a pattern that guided me to know what areas to go first and which to avoid. On my second playthrought(not game plus) i probably died twice in the entire game. after my 3rd playthrought(not game plus) i didnt died once.

I cant believe people find this game so hard. i found this game to be easier than Demon Souls. The reason for this is because unlike DS, in DKS you can break most enemies defense with a kick and then hit them with any kind of blunt weapon that makes the enemy dizzy, or throws them of balance for a few seconds allowing for spam strikes, this feature alone made the game worlds easier than DS. now any enemy that didnt have thick armor was easily dispatched with spears. DS is better than DKS

@fortunate3232 DRK isnt anywhere near as good as DS. DS graphics, game flow, story, online PVP, battle tactics, and combat is far superior to DKS. Which brings me to another point, i think the huge lack of content in DKS made me realize that skyrim would have been a better choice. Even though DS wasnt story wise stellar, but at eh very least gave you far more story than DKS. i dont know if it was because i became proficient in DS, that made me see DKS toooooo easy.

@fortunate3232 now on the DS combat is superior to DKS statement, i say this because although DKS has more moves this in it self doesnt make it better than DS. the reason for it is because both the kick and jump attack in DKS makes the game way too easy. Where as demon souls, you where forced to find an opening and most if not all heavy armored enemies where hard to find opening. Yes i know you could break enemies defense with the shield bash, but it was hard to accomplish.
