Looks like all the main bearing caps let go at the same time leaveing pistons & crankshaft inside the tractor... Once you start modifying a engine theres always a limiting factor as to how much HP can be produced , in this case it's the engine block....

Too much boost, Basically there was so much cylinder pressure the Mains let go sending the crankshaft, rods and the pistons out the bottom of the block while the block flew up.

@Snoep76239 Yes it is a lot of pressure. There is the possibility that he was seeing detonation from either too much boost, not enough fuel or too much timing. When you start to get detonation the normal cylinder pressure that you normally see is doubled. So if his normal cylinder pressure was 800psi in each cylinder then if he were detonation then he could have seen close to 1600psi in whatever cylinder detonated. Hence why it blew up.

@liftedcj7on44s OK, lets do the math for some fun. Though there are no engine specs, let's assume it's a beefy 8-cylinder. If the pistons are a little over 3" in diameter, that's 10 square inches of surface area apiece. At 1600psi, thats 16,000 pounds per cylinder. Times 8 cylinders, that's 128,000 pounds, or 64 tons trying to rip the block in half. Blocks are cast iron, which is brittle and loses strength when heated, and blocks are pretty thin where this one broke so yes, I can see it go BOOM!

If the piston is a little over 3" diameter, diameter times 3.14159 (pi) gives surface area. Surface area times psi = total pressure on piston.
