  • @RwBguardian If I had the whole concert, rest assured it would be up by now. Three songs is all.

  • Well this video made me cry again!!

  • My husband and I played this at our wedding. Beautiful tune!! My husband last heard this live October 1992 at Motherwell civic centre!

    Thanks for the footage!

  • Ain't Wolfstone without Ivan! Now they're just a funk band with no energy . . . .

  • For anyone wishing to catch up with Ivan Drever and Andy Murray, they have got back together to form a new band. The IVAN DREVER BAND hit the road in the Highlands next month. Watch this space!

    Fiona.

  • PS Info and gig listings can be found at their myspace profile (ivandreverband)

    Fi.x

  • Now they're just a funk band with no energy??? You can't have been to any of their recent gigs then???

  • And swelsher is gonna be the cat who plays it at my funeral...

  • What makes you think swelsher is going to outlive you? :-)

  • He's my elder son. He doesn't get a choice.

  • Well I hope you're right and I hope you both live to a good old age !

    :-)

  • This is the line-up that is Wolfstone to me. "Hector", as played here, never fails to make me tear up, and will be played at my funeral. God bless 'em (but I do miss Ivan...)

  • Me too. Ever since I first heard the album version (1991, I believe) I have known I want it played at my funeral. It is my absolute favourite tune and I have never heard a version to rival this one.

  • @PSUinCT

I agree completely. First time I saw Wolfstone was in Princes St Gardens in Edinburgh, The Chase wasn't long out & around 4000 of a crowd jigged themselves to a standstill. I've seen many big rock bands at their peak & they would have been taught lessons by Wolfstone of that era.

Recently saw Ivan & Duncan in Melrose Village Hall (400 mile round trip ;-) & they invoke fantastic memories.

  • How beautiful, what a great number. God bless Noreen from Ireland.

  • thanks for posting

  • You're welcome arranant1 :-)

  • Hi there,A great piece of music written for Sir Hector Archibald MacDonald, aka The Fighting Mac.One of Scotlands finest.Check him out on Wikipedia

  • Absolutely awesome piece of music - I defy anyone listening to this not to be moved. It would make a brilliant Scottish National Anthem given words. It tugs at those bits that matter. Beautifully played here too!

  • A band so great that not even their mullets can diminish them.

  • It's wonderful to see the progression of what is thought to be traditional music and to see it embraced so well by its culture. Perhaps never so well embraced then by the Celts and the Gaels, thanks for the post.

  • It's funny. I played in a band that opened for Wolfstone at The Palms in Davis, CA; probably circa 1992. Their music is still great. I've payed bagpipes my whole life and still love their rendition of this most beautiful piece!

  • Excellent !! Phalaina

  • good old grampian tv for showing this stuff

  • Don't care what anyone else says; stuff Flower of Scotland, stuff Scotland the Brave, stuff Highland Cathedral; this would be a tune (or a song, if it had words) that I would more than happily belt out at the start of any international sporting match. Even if it didn't have words I'd just belt it out anyway, but just scat it.

  • suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuperb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great band to go and see. saw them at the Magnum. long time ago. thanks for posting. 5 stars.

  • Big Wolfstone fan. Saw them live for the 1st time in 98. Have been in love ever since. They only get better and better.

  • This is such a beautiful tune,on of my favourits.

  • I'm not a fan of maudlin Scots sentimentality in music but this version of this song always makes me greet like a big wean. It's beautiful, it's also powerful and moving and just bloomin wonderful. *sniff*

  • A really well played version of Hector the Hero. Did Wolfstone make any acoustic recordings?

  • When this band were at their best!!!!!

  • Oh no!!!! Good then, fab now :-):-):-)

  • Fabulous tune

Check out the Pipin' Hot version with the City Of Invercargill Caledonian Pipe Band

  • my hubby and son both play this on the bagpipes, wolfstone make good job of it.

  • awesome one of the greatest tunes ever written check out the late great johnny cunninghams version

  • This is the original group, including Ivan Drever at the acoustic guitar...What a pity they had to split because Wolfstone produced their best albums in the nineties !! Phalaina

  • unreal, 100%

    keep-er-lit

  • Thanks for the comment chrissymccloskey. They're real all right, undoubtedly. Glad you liked it.
