why is there such a thing as atheist ireland? personally i was raised a catholic but consider myself to have no religion i simply don't believe, but isn't there a chance that starting groups like atheist ireland etc, could make people believe that being atheist could b considered the religion of having no religion?
why are you just targeting catholicism or lapsed catholics. Is is not the case that AI should be campaigning that all non-religious people state that they are so - this looks like a bit of an anti-catholic campaign and not anti-theism.
@coldwarkid007 Yeah it is. Do you have a problem with that? There are many reasons why the focus is on catholicism. I'm going to be honest, I'm too lazy to say them. I don't know if you're Irish or not, either. If you're Irish you should know why.
@EclecticSceptic to single out one specific religion makes AI seem partial in inter-religious debate. It leaves the organisation and its campaigns open to criticism and makes it easier to discredit. It also puts anti-theists (like me) off the organisation as it is missing an opportunity to encourage all non-religious people to state so in the census. Many ex-members of other Christian denominations are also unable to dis-associate themselves from their cultural tag. By the way I am Irish.
@coldwarkid007 This video is for the campaign "Be Honest to God", the other video yet to be uploaded is to inform Atheists to put down non-religion as Atheism is not a religion. see atheist.ie/category/census/
Note Atheist Ireland is not anti-theist, anti-catholic, or anti-other religion.
The purpose of this video is in the description. If half the population of so claimed catholic-Ireland are not actually catholic then why give incorrect information inflating the power of the RCCL
That's a great point about Irish people treating their Catholicism as an unquestioned fact akin to their blood type. I know many people who might be living at home still (or again!) who will fill out the form as a family group. There are many who might in those circumstances feel a pressure to conform, or not want to upset the folks, and allow someone else to 'decide' their religious view for them.
We need to empower those people to feel that ticking 'No religion' is OK in that situation.
@rozeboosje Saw your great vid the other day so thought we should have something about the campaign. Thinking of doing a vid using a clip from your vid and DaithiDublin and a few others. -Tom
@AtheistIreland Go ahead, Tom. How about a shout on the forum. There's a few YouTubers on there, maybe get a round of videos going and we can all link up to an AI one.
Wtf, this is pathetic.

I've always thought about that same issue in the states,
people report wrong on the census I think must be a much bigger issue that what people realize
