While i'm not sure what good it did to reveal the personal opinions stated in the U.S. diplomatic cables, it would definitely be useful to release the names of the Swiss bank tax evaders. Assange was supposed to have obtained that information about a month or so ago, but I haven't heard anything about it since that banker publicly handed the names over to him.

The American people should know abut how they're being screwed over but what about the rest of the world? FB had blocked me from posting comments, Wordpress did the same (although it was rectified very quickly) and, for a short while, my survey linked was not working? I have been posting on both pro and anti WikiLeaks, gov and media sites to try to get a reasonable cross section. It is not easy to do. If you want to circulate the survey link please do. BTW, so far 7% respondents work for Gov & 3% in military

While i'm not sure what good it did to reveal the personal opinions stated in the U.S. diplomatic cables, it would definitely be useful to release the names of the Swiss bank tax evaders. Assange was supposed to have obtained that information about a month or so ago, but I haven't heard anything about it since that banker publicly handed the names over to him.

I think that although wikileaks has released some rather groundbreaking information. It remains that the entire site is, mostly, just one huge fraud. The entire press coverage of it has been a subtle way of securing more governmental control over the internet, moreover, it seems that the site's been used, to a certain degree, as a tool to villify Iran, China and Pakistan while allowing Israel and the western world to get off the hook.

@MrSafetymeeting : To the world. He's leaked material that informed the Tunisians about how corrupt their government. So Mohamed Bouazizi's self immolation was not in vain. Dictators throughout the middle east now know that their people know about their leader's true position (with respect to secretly wanting to assassinate the Iranian president, and negotiating oil prices with China on US's behalf and other nefarious things.) Also the stuff on the Iceland banks.

me and my friend from Kenya was talking about this last week when I was in Tokyo. He pretty much said "the guy threatened to burn himself to the officers, and the officers probably said. knowing Africa. go right on ahead. and so he did it." Dunno why I got a laugh out of that, but if you have spent enough time in developing countries and developed countries you notice the differences right away. I'm American born and raised btw... But wikileaks is extremely empowering.
