  • I love me some Ruby Dee... loved Ossie too.

  • @TABULOUS1 They are/were my favorite couple. So inspiring, Ossie told me something in 1997 which changed my direction in life, I am glad I had the opportunity to meet him before he passed, and to interview Ruby Dee a few times.

  • Uhm uh uh uh uh uh... um... uh uh uh uh, um...

  • Ruby Dee made her first dramatic film debut in 1946/47, seventy years before Hollywood finally acknowledged her great contribution. She starred in independent all black cast movies made in New York in the late forties because Hollywood refused to accept blacks in nothing but demeaning stereotypical comedic roles, which she refused to play. I can't remember her ever playing a maid in one film. She made her dramatic film debut in Hollywood with Sidney Poitier and Ossie Davis in NO WAY OUT in 1950

  • As a matter of fact Dee was probably the first black actress to make a career of playing dramatic roles in Hollywood. All the other stars black female stars of that post WWII era such as Dorothy Dandridge, Eartha Kitt, Pearl Bailey, Diahann Carroll, were all singer-actresses, who could easily go back to the their entertainment careers when the roles in Hollywood became difficult to come by. So for those who wonder how her small role in AMERICAN GANGSTER got nominated for an Oscar, think again.

  • The word says "Thy shall not Kill" what does that word mean nowdays.

I think there are exception, but for money, greed, jealousy, hatred......Those reasons are "unexceptable".....Not for respect either......What done in the dark will come to the light........American Gangster is leading our young men into "Hell"..... Believe it...... I love you Ms. Ruby Dee and your Husband......

  • Ruby Dee is a jewel and gifted talent. She is beautiful and so brilliant in all that she does. Her and her late husband have done more for the acting community and civil rights. She should have been nominated so many times especially for lead actress for her roles in the Spike Lee Movies, especially Do The Right Thing. I really thought she was going to win even though her role was small. I think it was kind of an upset, no disrespect to Tilda who won. Thanks for the post.

  • she reminds me of FRANKIE,KEISHA'S MOM only classier, great talent nonetheless

  • she was pretty in her younger days.

  • don't talk shit

  • actors have been nominated for even one scene in a film. Learn to spell "racism" buddy

  • Absolute Legend right here!!

    ~thanks for Posting!!

  • I look forward to working with you and being a part of your energy and passion.

  • Lifelong talent again overlooked by a few but appreciated and supported by many. You are love by me!

  • she gives interviews longer than her performance! lol gotta love her though

  • omg academy, halle got a oscar for a far lesser performance in a whole movie, ruby dee made a stunning and strong cameo and gets a nomination, come on academy -give ruby dee her due .

  • I thik she shouldve won the Best Actress at the Oscars last night, Tilda Swinton is good but Ruby Dee has been in the game a long, long time and she deserves it more

  • Amazing incredible legend! Beautiful soul and talent. She has done so much for the arts and this country. Bless her!

  • with her pinky, she has more talent then most of the airbrushed, plastic, publicity seeking,

tempermental actreses of today, she herself is worth more than a oscar, she's a diamond of the few greats that remain.

  • Jungle Fever....

  • she is OSCAR worthy and more

  • Ms Dee is so right about the story of Frank Lucas. Very good insight about the story in which she portrays Frank's mom. I like her performance on this film. She is great at 83.

  • so nice

  • Denzel Washington is a great man

  • excelente actuacion tiene una mirada que me hizo recordar a mi madre cuando me portaba mal impresionante actriz no la conocia

  • Black dont crack! she dont even look 83! omg! i love it!

  • Mrs. Dee is long deserved for her work. This scene with Denzel is the more powerful in Movie History. She is one of very best of our Generation. Wonderful work.

  • your mammy sucks dicks for two dollars!!!! and your father is dead with a cock into him ass!!!! sorry for my english!!!!

  • OH SHIT! LOL

  • Who cares how old she is, Miss Dee is a GIANT and has given us so many wonderful and brilliant performances. How lucky we are to still have her on the big screen after sixty years in front of the cameras! One of my favourite Ruby Dee performances can be found in 'A Raisin in the Sun' (1961) with Sidney Poitier. If you haven't seen it, go buy the DVD. She is a CLASS ACT!

  • 83,she is the poster child for black don't crack

  • She looks amazing for 83, wow!!! I'd think she was about 60

    Amazing woman!

  • I am so excited for her! I hope she will continue to act for many years to come. 83 and still looking great!

  • Ruby Dee is a fuckin Legend. My only complaint with that movie is they did not give her a bigger role. That scene was powerful. They should have extended it

  • sorry for the mislabel at the front of the video.
