Society makes these things happen. People need to understand that who you are sexually attracted to or fall in love with isn't a choice. Even if this is fake, the problem is real. Society makes you feel like you have to "try" to become straight if you're gay. That only hurts the "straight" partner in a gay/straight relationship.
