  • plug and go mate shouldnt matter what size as long as it is sata if your connctors am

  • 240p We meet Once again!

  • My first ever hard drive was 5.25 inch and had 2.8Gb's of space.

  • @crashbandicoot4everr

thank you, did it already :D

  • In my time if you had 2 hard disks you had a master and a slave and there were jumpers for settings these, also the cables were as wide as police tape and when they were all in your computer looked like a box full of linguini.

    Luckily, things are different now!

  • HOLY JESUS 138,714 videos. OMFG.

  • @TLG160 It's 138,564 idiot.

  • @Rebbonleet they delet vids

  • @TLG160 lol that's nothing. Their view count is equal to a third of the planets population.

  • do you need the data cable to use the hard drive? can someone please answer.

  • @Extremeteamification Yes, you need the computer (motherboard) to have a way to communicate with the hard drive, and that's why a cable connects the two. Otherwise your hard drive will get power with the power cable, but it'll be disconnected from the rest of the devices.

  • Thank you. This was quite helpful, and very thorough.

@blazefast Whether it's necessary or not, no one is forcing you to watch this video (hopefully).

  • Thanks I want this only:-D

  • Is it really necessary to post a video about this? I mean, if you can plug in a USB cable, I'm pretty sure you can do this

  • Comment removed

  • @zezzima792 Your talking about a Graphics card, find them on Ebay.com ,Ebay.co.uk

Try to find a ATI or a nVidia graphics card, and make sure you grab one with about 1GB.

  • @zezzima792 ebay bro!!!!!

  • so I did exactly as this said, and the hard drive isnt seen by my computer.

I hate when everyone says things are easy, yet there's multiple ways to do it (look at any of the multiple vids on installing a hard drive) and something always goes wrong anyway.

  • @Eidlones make it a slave if you have more than 1 hdd

  • @qwv803 how exactly. there's nothing on the hard drives or cords for that.

  • it dose go in backwards then i had no hdd :(

  • what's the name of the third part?after power adaptor, and data

  • @killerclassG7 serial ata

  • good video and to the point

  • awesome explanation dude very help full for me

  • Can u give me a link to where I can get it and what is it's capacity and does it come with the wire to plug into ur motherboard?

  • THANKS MAN FOR THIS VIDEOS

  • @JosefHolub18 Its called subtitles mate, so if you dont have sound working on your computer you can still learn how to install the hard drive. And if you cant see "fock" all because of those TRANSPARENT subtitles then i highly suggest you go get a eye exam or take a break from that crack you been smoking up your ass.

  • oh,, texts are part of CC closed captioning!

  • WTF is this shit how is there text over the whole screen thats jsut retarded!

  • finally a good video from expert village

  • White adapter is MOLEX... DUMBY!!!

  • Wow how stupid can people be!

  • im buying a new pc and i want to copy the hdd from my old pc onto it, can i just plug it in to my new motherbord can copy from one hdd to another?

  • @JosefHolub18 take lessons for anger management

  • Good information. I dont know why people are getting so upset.

  • such poor quality and not enough explanation! I'm disappointed in you "expert village"

  • @21boxhead

Some people new to building computers would find the idea of installing a new hard drive intimidating. We all had to start somewhere and we all needed to learn the basics. Nothing about building a computer is particularly complicated but for first timers they need to be shown slowly so they don't make any costly rookie mistakes.

  • thanx a bunch nicely done

  • a good and simple explanation :)

  • If I get the Blue Screen of Death, wil my internal hard drive still work if I plug it in to the laptop via a cable?

  • you don't have to install any software or something like that?

  • @nfszeelandde

In some cases you might want to download some software to format and partition a new hard drive. You can download hard drive wizards from most reputable hard drive manufacturers websites. They are easy to use and you can find instructions for use.

  • even my grandma can build a pc

  • a retard can do it

  • My 180 GB SATA hard drive is really not enough. Whenever I install another game, there will only be about 8% free on the hard drive. It's pretty fragmented also but that can be fixed. I am planning to add another 320 gb hard drive, but it's SATA II. Will it work, if I just plug it in? (the 180 GB one must be the master: all my data is on there.)

  • @FRURMELLL Please let me know how it worked out.. I'm looking at a second hard drive so I can install a 64 bit OS but it's also SATA II where I think my first one must just be SATA.

  • wow.. very clear info.. thanks buddy..

  • really usefull.i am gratefull!

  • when all I do turn on the computer and whole time I loaded it comes to those pictures windows xp and there all the time loaded ... What do I do?

  • Your video really is the best! You don't show us a picture or diagram of the process, but you have a real PC a real HDD and actually do install if for us to see. Thank you very much! I hope you have more video like this, for example, on how to install a CPU, MOBO, format and partition of HDD etc....

  • Excellent tutorial. Short, but filled with all the right instructions and info.

  • what are the reasons you would need to do this?

  • @royalconcrete1 if you want another hard drive or if your first one broke

  • @toughguitar1 thanks for your reply. Internal drive like "C" that contains programs like photoshop? why doesnt a computer come with two already? and what are the reason you would want an additional one?

  • @royalconcrete1 your computer doesn't come with 2 because it comes with one operating system or it only comes with one. the reason you would get another one is so you can dual boot or just extra memory

  • @toughguitar1 thanks again. Dual boot is a fancy word for? Maybe you want firefox and internetexplorer? Dual boot?

  • @royalconcrete1 dual boot is is for example if you want both windows vista and windows 7 in one computer

  • @toughguitar1 thank you for answering my questions. I'll subscribe to you.

  • @royalconcrete1 THANKS

  • @woollster00 calm down

  • Why have these video's ? ppl can just look and under stand it

  • Question to all: im thinking of buying a new motherboard. the new bord has a PATA connection. so can i connect my old IDE hard drives to a PATA connection?

is a PATA connection the same as an IDE connection?

can i connect my IDE drives to a PATA connection thats on the motherboard?

  • @cybergeek100

kid i would just buy a MB with Sata, IDE is out of date.

  • You suck monkey cock that is a laptop sata u dweeb as mother foker

  • damn i need a sata

    i have EIDE/........

  • good 10/10

  • NO I have SATA. thats what it says on the hard drive (sata 1.5gb/s) but it went bad so im using an older hard drive so I think I have to buy a convertor?

  • Ok my power connector doesnt look like that. please help. Is all SATA that same??Help Please

  • does it have many small pins in it? if it has many small pins or 4 big pins, you have an IDE hard drive.

  • yes , SATA Cables are standard , if you don't have a Sata Cable or either using a Molex power cable (4pin connector) to power your hard drive or your powering it from a usb or something

  • good video.......10/10

  • is there any program needed to use after installing the hard disk on the CPU ?

  • Anyone know if it makes a difference which SATA connection (SATA 0 or SATA 1) is used on the MOBO for the primary boot drive? I just removed the second (data only) drive from my old Dell Dimension 8300 (which I installed a few years ago) and it now it would not boot up properly. I switched between the SATA connections on the MOBO before messing with the Bios (thinking it made no difference which one it was connected to) and now I can't remember which it was connected to before hand. Help!

  • no difference

  • That's what I thought...thanks!

  • just a couple of pointers-- u may have to go into your bios settings to make sure your secondary sata port on the motherboard is open-- i had too do that and then go start-- run-- and type in diskmgmt.msc and partition and format the new hard drive-- hope this helps

  • This is the best video on how to install HDD. Thank you !!!!! I have checked the others, and they don't explain all the details.

  • which SATA drive brand is best?

    WD / SEAGATE / HITACHI / ?????

  • @ZUBAIRYOUSAF seagate

  • Is it me or you can remove a SATA cable when it's connected to your motherboard?

  • Thank you!!!

  • who needed info like this? who is connecting new hdd to PC is not that stupid that he would not know where tu plug in connectors...

  • not me i didnt know and k=now i do so ill srtick it in my computer and make it many times faster

  • great this didn't help at all

  • does an Internal Hard Drive (IHD) work exactly like an External Hard Drive (EHD)?

I was thinking of buying a EHD, but they're abit too expensive for me. and I was wondering if it would be cheaper to install a IHD?

Reason for that is, my current Hard Drive is only 78GB big...I know...terrible :)

  • OK OK WAIT! I have a Western Digital WD Caviar SE16 (500)GB ok well mine doesn't look like that i have those 2 power and data but i also have a power port like the old old hard drives. So can anyone tell me what to do?

  • I need the SATA cable from mainboard to HDD!

  • you can buy one at best buy for about $20 its a lil overpriced (i work there employee price is $1.31) but you need it, unfortunately all retail HDDs have no SATA cable

  • Helpful vid, wish the quality was better though.

  • can you help me,my hard disk lost memory from 160 gb to 39 mb what should 1 do?

  • USB is very, very slow. On a non-SSD hard drive you won't see the difference, in terms of speed, between a SATA and ATA(now known as PATA, sometimes called IDE).

  • Your voice is soothing bro.

  • Thanks for the vid :) was very helpful

  • what hardrive would work on my p5q pro turbo motherboard?

  • See, again you are mis-informed. Love to know which Sesame Steet book you get your information from. E-SATA is NOT faster than USB. Its the same data rate. Also USB is much more universally used on pcs. I have never seen even a new computer with built in E-Sata, you have to buy it as an optional extra, plug in PCI card, which would be no good to me as I only have one PCI card slot on my pc and thats for my Raid card (E-IDE version.) Needed cause I have 8 Hard drive in my pc (all E-IDE.)

  • LOL u really dont know what ur talking about... next time dont comment unless you know what u are talking about

  • If your referring to my comments then you will know that SATA hard disks and IDE hard disks are the same. SATA is the connection, which is a faster. IDE cables suck and newer computers use SATA which is smaller wire and connects directly to the device and motherboard.

  • Thankyou very much!

Now I know how to connect the new hard drive I'm about to get, and also know that I have enough connections for it!

I was worried that I would have to fork out $200 for a new power supply for my second hard drive!

  • Appreciated how you kept the chat info to a proper minimum.

  • thanks for this video! that is very simple now!

  • hi james,

i would like to thank you for making this vid, it certainly helped me alot :)

and to the other dickheads, who dont appreciate your work, ignore them :)

  • Isn't Serial ata and sata are the same just a shorter name

  • yes - both the same

  • Thank you for posting. In about an hour I'm going to start putting together my first PC from scratch. I was a little shaky on how to connect power to my hard drive, this helped out a lot.

  • How do you set it to master?

  • Comment removed

  • @usfjisthekilla dont need to, thats only for ide where more then one thing will be hooked up to one cable, the way to set a sata drive to "master" is done through the bios and thats basically just a boot order for when you have more then 1 hdd hooked up

  • helpful from 2:40 unwards. nice

  • same here.i only was missing that

  • OMFG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR A DAY NOW!!! U ARE A LIFE SAVER!!! Yes i had the problem for 1 day. now i need to find either a windows vista CD or use my crappy Windows XP sp2 what do u ppl recommend?

  • go download the iso vista age

  • i reccomend XP over vista and windows 7 over anything else

  • Hi James

Just thought id mention you should recomend power off for total beginers may not be so obvious to all

  • i think your HD is IDE.

  • Hello James, thanks for your tutorial!!! simple indeed! I'm missing the adapter for the power cable and didn't know what was going on until I saw your video.

    mq

  • Good video, thank you.

Only ever worked with IDE HDD's so this video was very useful.

  • Some people are still learning the basics.

  • This was a very helpful video, I'm just putting together my first computer and I was very confused until I watched this very well-explained video. Thank you so much!

  • Some people are just getting started and never seen inside of a pc before. They need something like this.

  • STFU!
