@WiserAsIGrow And what exactly is the configuration of your Vibrant? I use a similar phone, the Galaxy S 4G -- it has the official upgrade to Android 2.3.6 but is otherwise stock. It's Quadrant score is 1560.
Assuming your Vibrant is significantly modified. You can make a Civic go faster than a Boxster, if the Civic is modified and the Boxster is factory-standard.
@wirefly I ordered this phone today getting it on friday . (verizon say I'm going to get it by friday )(Ships with fed ex ) do you think i'm going to get it before that ?
@poloboss66 Are you getting it from Wirefly? If so, give me your order number and I will confirm the deliver date. If you're getting it somewhere else, I can't check on the date.
@xOAzzalea The ThunderBolt and iPhone 4S are both nice phones, but why the choice of the ThunderBolt? I think better 4G choices for Verizon are the DROID Bionic, DROID RAZR and HTC Rezound. All those are at least as good (if not significantly better) than the iPhone 4S. All should cost less than the iPhone, too.
@imjoedewar No, the ThunderBolt can't work on T-Mobile, even if it is unlocked. The ThunderBolt uses CDMA and LTE technology, and it is not compatible with GSM used by T-Mobile, AT&T and in most international countries.
@MorganCoolness Between the too, the Rezound is much more powerful, has a nicer display and comes with iBeats earphones. If you can afford it, the Rezound is a nicer phone.
hey bob i am in highschool and going to be persuing a career in technology but thats not what im here to say or ask... I was wonder what do you think is a good phone on verizon right know? I'm leaning towards a samsung stratosphere 4g lte but i was wondering what ur opinion is on it and the good phones on verizon.
@xKcorBx I like the Stratosphere and it is arguably the best sliding keyboard phone on Verizon right now. However, there will be a Motorola DROID 4 in a month or so, and it looks to be pretty nice. So if you can wait a month, see what the DROID 4 looks like. It will have a sliding keyboard and lots of other goodies.
@hawkaholic33 The ThunderBolt is a good phone, but there is better on Verizon right now. The Droid Bionic and now the DROID RAZR are both excellent, as is the HTC Rezound. If you like a sliding keyboard, the Samsung Stratosphere is very good. All those are 4G, but some are quite pricey. Happy shopping!
@Hatersgunnahatex3 def not the incredible 2 my friend has this and im getting one AND i was looking at the incredible 2 they look similar but this is the thunderbolt
@Chadbuettner I answered this question about five comments below:
"The ThunderBolt is a nice phone, but I like the DROID Bionic more. It has a higher-resolution display, faster processor and good-quality 1080p video. The ThunderBolt does have a kickstand, and it does come with 40GB of storage... both nice features. But I'll take the higher resolution and faster processor. "
No extra cost for Wi-Fi tethering? Are you sure about that? I currently have an iPhone and they told me tethering was extra and I only got 2GB of data. I just walked away and jailbroke my phone 3 hours out of the store.
@NoDoubtFilms When the ThunderBolt came out, Verizon offered free WiFi hotspot for a two or three months, which was a great deal. I do not know if that is still being offered with the ThunderBolt... probably not.
@wirefly I am thinking about the Droid Bionic and the Thunderbolt. I like that the Bionic is thinner and has a great, bright screen, but I really like HTC sense and all you can customize about it. I also like the kickstand. Which phone do you personally enjoy more?
@95kanester The ThunderBolt is a nice phone, but I like the DROID Bionic more. It has a higher-resolution display, faster processor and good-quality 1080p video. The ThunderBolt does have a kickstand, and it does come with 40GB of storage... both nice features. But I'll take the higher resolution and faster processor. My understanding is that you can get a Sense-like clock widget in the Android Market.
@wirefly sorry to keep asking questions, so then you would recommend the evo 3D for sprint, and the... Bionic? Thunderbolt? Or a 3G phone like the droid X2 since I only have 3D. Battery is also very important to me. So wouldn't a 4G phone with 4G turned off have alot of battery? Sorry for the questions, thanks!
@MrTechdeck961 Those are all good phones. However, if there is no 4G in your area and not likely to be for a year or more, then the Motorola DROID X2 is a great choice. Basically, it's a high-end phone without the 4G.
Battery life is hard to estimate because it depends on how you use your phone. Yes, 4G uses power, but so does WiFi and frequent updates of your social feeds. And game playing. It all adds up.
@wirefly hey can you help me? I really like the evo/ HTC sense on sprint. Is the thunderbolt the equivalent of the Evo on Verizon? I listen to music alot, text alot, and browse the web and go on YouTube alot. Is the Thunderbolt the phone for me? Thanks!
@MrTechdeck961 There are several EVO phones on Sprint, so you have to be careful which EVO you compare the ThunderBolt to. The ThunderBolt is considerably more powerful than the EVO 4G, but not as powerful as the EVO 3D. A great feature of the T'Bolt is its 40GB of storage... excellent. It will work well for all the tasks you mention, although YouTube will be sluggish in 3G.
@wirefly Sorry, I didn't mean to sound cranky. It's just that I had answered this same question a short time before.
The ThunderBolt and the DROID 3 are very different phones. The DROID 3 has a physical keyboard and a dual-core processor that's faster than the ThunderBolt's process. However, the ThunderBolt has a bigger display and 4G connectivity... but no physical keyboard. So, do you want a keyboard? Or 4G? That's a lot of your choices.
I'm using Mixzing now, and it seems to work better, but the discussion I found suggrsted it was a RAM issue. It definitely skips less when I use a task killer before opening the music app
Have you experienced any glitches with the Droid? My Photon has randomly restarted multiple times and often skips when playing music. I've heard these problems are common with Motorola phones, which makes me wary of buying another one
@scottydoe13579 I'd say that you have some kind of glitch in the Photon. I used a Motorola Bravo for several months and it played music without a hitch... and I used it to play music for nearly every commute. I've been using a Samsung Galaxy S phone lately and confess to prefering its music player to the one in the Bravo, but the Bravo worked fine as a music player.
Bob, can I get your professional recommendation between this and the Droid Bionic? I currently have a Motorola Photon with Sprint, and I seem to be having some bug issues with it, in addition to Sprint not having very good 4g coverage in my area.
@scottydoe13579 I think that the DROID Bionic is better in many ways than the ThunderBolt. The Bionic has a faster processor, more built-in storage, a higher-resolution display, 1080p video capability, a bigger battery and a more up-to-date version of Android... to name just a few. There's no kickstand on the Bionic, however. Under the covers, the Photon and the Bionic are pretty similar, however.
this phone is absolutely amazing. got it for 150 certified preownedm couldnt even tell thought it was brand new. get this or wait for the ones coming out soon that are going to wreck house
@gill9871 There's no question that the ThunderBolt is more powerful than the EVO 4G. Keep in mind that the EVO 3D (which is more powerful than either the ThunderBolt or EVO 4G) is now available at a great price on Wirefly.
@poopdood321JP Absolutely, and it's easy to do. With the phone on, touch and hold the display. In a moment, the personalization menu comes up, and one of the first choices is for wallpaper. Touch that and away you go.
@wirefly Hey wirefly I just wanted your Point of view etc I haven't had a phone in 6 months and im getting on buy the end of this month. Which one should I get? Thunderbolt or Bionic? I mostly like to hear music and take pictures videos and like to save files. and video chat. which one should be the best for me? and when will the Bionic be released?
@93mustangboy The DROID Bionic is expected this week, from what I hear. That said, I haven't seen one yet and can't say from experience how it compares to the HTC ThunderBolt. The hype on the DROID Bionic has been boiling for months, so everyone expects it to be an excellent phone. However, I haven't yet seen one, so I can't really say for sure how well it works.
@93mustangboy My experience with the ThonderBolt's battery is that it has average battery life. I did a video on the ThunderBolt's battery life, which you can find in Wirefly's videos.
@xxkeichii You have to get 4G if you get the ThunderBolt, but there are lots of different plans. Check with Verizon or Wirefly (if you're buying it from Wirefly) what plans are available and what the costs are.
@35enox You should visit Wirefly to check the price. Prices change all the time, and it will be wrong in a couple of weeks if I post it here. That causes confusion, so it's always best to just check the price when you want to know it.
@ssiccmade1985 I personally prefer the EVO 3D, which has a faster processor, higher display resolution and a 3D camera. On the other hand, the ThunderBolt has a kickstand, faster 4G network and comes with more storage space. If you haven't seen it, I made a ThunderBolt vs. EVO 3D "Schmackdown" video.
Hello, thanks for the review. I saw you opened the ringtone section. Are you able to use a personal song or downloaded file on the phone as a ringtone? Thanks very much if you can answer this.
@pratap680153037 The HTC Sensation may work in India, as the Sensation is a GSM phone. I don't know if you will be able to get it for less than $250, however. You're going at this the wrong way, though... you need to identify a phone that will work properly in India, then find out where you can buy it and for how much. I'm with Wirefly, and we sell only phones designed for the US market.
can someone help me? I can't find the htc thunderbold on the dutch htc website, so is it more new then the htc sensation? because in this review the device is running on an old version of htc sens. bye the way im dutch so my english isn't really good :P
The HTC ThunderBolt is for Verizon in the US and I'm note aware that there is an international version. The ThunderBolt uses Verizon's CDMA and LTE technology, and is not compatible with GSM service available in Europe.
@musicloverxx1000 Of those two, I recommend the ThunderBolt. The 4G (LTE) really works on Verizon's 4G phones, and that makes the ThunderBolt worth it.
@xxTIGER43xx The official launch date for the Motorola Photon is July 31, but that might shift a week. There is no official date for the Motorola DROID Bionic, and the specs are still not confirmed. If you need a phone now, the ThunderBolt is a good choice. If you can wait, then waiting a couple of weeks might make things a bit clearer.
@xxTIGER43xx We have "Schmackdown" videos that answer just that question. They're pretty interesting, so you might want to look. We have a ThunderBolt vs. EVO 4G and ThunderBolt vs. EVO 3D. Lots to consider.
Also I know if i get the contract for the Incredible 2 it will be outdated with how fast technology is growing. I have used both in stores and they both seemed pretty amazing! But since they are really expensive I don't want to make the wrong choice. Is the battery life really that bad?
help me! I really want a phone with 4g speeds since i live in a 4g area and i like the 4.3 inch screen but I have heard people taking the thunderbolts back and many many complaints about the battery life I have watched a lot of videos on how to save the battery and they seem logical. Also i want a thin phone and the thunderbolt obviously is a very thick phone. The incredible 2 is slim and has better battery life but its not a 4g phone and it doesn't have as much storage as the thunderbolt.
The thunderbolt is an awesome phone. Battery life isn't good, but I've had it since launch. I just had to learn how to manage my battery life better. The LTE on off app definitely helps.
(for those who care) the thunderbolt is a rock sold phone! Yes the battery life very short (with LTE on). There is an app called LTE on/off (free) that you can use to turn 4G off. With only 3G on the phone's battery life is decent. I had the iPhone 3Gs and they seem equal as far as battery life with 4G off. iPhones are sweet and I have no complaints, but the thunderbolt is awesome! I'm still adjusting to the Android OS, but its smooth and pretty cool.
i love my thunderbolt! however htc sense is the worst OS short of iOS and maybe Motoblur. its just an insult, which is why i have cyanogenmod, which actually optimizes this device
@BigBill1501 The ThunderBolt is a fine smart phone, but it's hard to give you a recommendation without knowing more about how you will use a phone. And does Verizon have good coverage where you'll need it? I can recommend the ThunderBolt, but it's not necessarily the right phone for everyone.
@corruptscorpion "...only 480 x 800 resolution"? 10 years ago, most computers were running 600 x 800 resolution on 15-inch screens, and we were pretty pleased to have that resolution. I've worked with a LOT of phones that have 480 x 800 resolution and it looks just fine.
@wirefly lol, thats the thing tho.. now is not ten years ago, and when you get your hands on a phone like sensation 4g or iphone 4 put it beside this phone and see the difference in the pixels and photo quality, specially while doing web browsing.
@wirefly YES!! and ten years ago you never heard of touchscreen phones either! the iPhone 4 runs 960x640 and has a 3.5 inch screen......... the thunderbolt's resolution is NOT ok. No argument needed, its just facts.
@johnfabris Actually, a large segment of the population struggles with the tiny 3.5-inch display on the iPhone, regardless of its pretty resolution. I'm the first to agree that the iPhone 4 is a fine device, but choice is a good thing. Your needs are not the same as my needs, and giving us choice is good for all of us.
@johnfabris lol you are so freaking stupid bro...get off ur xbox/ps3 and game on pc, you will learn alot about resolution IPhone looks better bc the screen is smaller...duh
1st: BUY A 1800 MAH BATTERY OFF EBAY FOR HTC THUNDERBOLT OR MYTOUCH 4G (SAME BATTERY)
2ND: NSTALL 'ATK' FROM THE APP MARKET (THE ONE WITH THE BLUE 'X' LOGO. USE THIS APP TO KILL ALL OTHER APPS
3RD: LOWER YOUR BRIGHTNESS AND TURN OFF UNNEEDED FEATURES LIKE BLUETOOTH, GPS, & WIFI
4TH: (THIS ONE IS TOUGH, DONT DO IT IF YOURE NOT COMFORTABLE) ROOT YOUR PHONE AND INSTALL THE LATEST VERSION OF THE 'BAMF' ROM. YOU WILL FIND THESE ROMS ONLINE

There are plenty of good phones better than the Thunderbolt. Go forward, not backwards.
Hope I helped, and errrh, do your research on the phones your thinking of buying, you might find them to be perfect for you, or not so good.

93mustangboy 6 months ago
@93mustangboy The DROID Bionic is expected this week, from what I hear. That said, I haven't seen one yet and can't say from experience how it compares to the HTC ThunderBolt. The hype on the DROID Bionic has been boiling for months, so everyone expects it to be an excellent phone. However, I haven't yet seen one, so I can't really say for sure how well it works.

@wirefly oh ok well is it true that the Thunderbolt battery is bad?
93mustangboy 6 months ago
@93mustangboy My experience with the ThonderBolt's battery is that it has average battery life. I did a video on the ThunderBolt's battery life, which you can find in Wirefly's videos.

Do you have to get 4G on here? If you do, does it cost anything extra? I'm upgrading from my HTC Incredible.
xxkeichii 6 months ago
@xxkeichii You have to get 4G if you get the ThunderBolt, but there are lots of different plans. Check with Verizon or Wirefly (if you're buying it from Wirefly) what plans are available and what the costs are.

@35enox You should visit Wirefly to check the price. Prices change all the time, and it will be wrong in a couple of weeks if I post it here. That causes confusion, so it's always best to just check the price when you want to know it.

Bigeast21 6 months ago
which is better thunderbolt or the evo 3d?
ssiccmade1985 6 months ago
@ssiccmade1985 I personally prefer the EVO 3D, which has a faster processor, higher display resolution and a 3D camera. On the other hand, the ThunderBolt has a kickstand, faster 4G network and comes with more storage space. If you haven't seen it, I made a ThunderBolt vs. EVO 3D "Schmackdown" video.

hi i live in india...
can i buy this this and use here in india
pratap680153037 7 months ago
@pratap680153037 No, the ThunderBolt only works with Verizon in the US. It has CDMA and LTE technology, not the GSM format that's used in India.

@pratap680153037 okay okay thank u can u sujjest me a good phone in htc below 250$ which works in india
pratap680153037 7 months ago
@pratap680153037 The HTC Sensation may work in India, as the Sensation is a GSM phone. I don't know if you will be able to get it for less than $250, however. You're going at this the wrong way, though... you need to identify a phone that will work properly in India, then find out where you can buy it and for how much. I'm with Wirefly, and we sell only phones designed for the US market.

can someone help me? I can't find the htc thunderbold on the dutch htc website, so is it more new then the htc sensation? because in this review the device is running on an old version of htc sens. bye the way im dutch so my english isn't really good :P
prorein 7 months ago
@prorein You English is better than my Dutch. :-)
The HTC ThunderBolt is for Verizon in the US and I'm note aware that there is an international version. The ThunderBolt uses Verizon's CDMA and LTE technology, and is not compatible with GSM service available in Europe.

should i get the thunderbolt or wait for the bionic?
do u kno when the photon 4g comes out?
xxTIGER43xx 7 months ago
@xxTIGER43xx The official launch date for the Motorola Photon is July 31, but that might shift a week. There is no official date for the Motorola DROID Bionic, and the specs are still not confirmed. If you need a phone now, the ThunderBolt is a good choice. If you can wait, then waiting a couple of weeks might make things a bit clearer.

xxTIGER43xx 7 months ago
@xxTIGER43xx We have "Schmackdown" videos that answer just that question. They're pretty interesting, so you might want to look. We have a ThunderBolt vs. EVO 4G and ThunderBolt vs. EVO 3D. Lots to consider.

Also I know if i get the contract for the Incredible 2 it will be outdated with how fast technology is growing. I have used both in stores and they both seemed pretty amazing! But since they are really expensive I don't want to make the wrong choice. Is the battery life really that bad?
jpqmz 7 months ago
The incredible 2 is slim and has better battery life but its not a 4g phone and it doesn't have as much storage as the thunderbolt.
jpqmz 7 months ago
@jpqmz The Droid x2 or Droid x are slim phones with 4.3 inch screen and have good battery lifes i hope that helped.
MrRanting 7 months ago
Getting this phone tomorrow <33 excitedd.
jessjusko321 7 months ago
The thunderbolt is an awesome phone. Battery life isn't good, but I've had it since launch. I just had to learn how to manage my battery life better. The LTE on off app definitely helps.
Cebzero 7 months ago
My opinion :
(for those who care) the thunderbolt is a rock sold phone! Yes the battery life very short (with LTE on). There is an app called LTE on/off (free) that you can use to turn 4G off. With only 3G on the phone's battery life is decent. I had the iPhone 3Gs and they seem equal as far as battery life with 4G off. iPhones are sweet and I have no complaints, but the thunderbolt is awesome! I'm still adjusting to the Android OS, but its smooth and pretty cool.
perry1214 7 months ago
droid charge, thunderbolt, incredible 2 which iz best?

i love my thunderbolt! however htc sense is the worst OS short of iOS and maybe Motoblur. its just an insult, which is why i have cyanogenmod, which actually optimizes this device

Great overview thinking of buying this phone would you suggest it and if not which smart phone should i get?
BigBill1501 7 months ago
@BigBill1501 The ThunderBolt is a fine smart phone, but it's hard to give you a recommendation without knowing more about how you will use a phone. And does Verizon have good coverage where you'll need it? I can recommend the ThunderBolt, but it's not necessarily the right phone for everyone.

how could a 4.3 inch screen look good with only 480 x 800 resolution?? stop selling crap
corruptscorpion 7 months ago 2
@corruptscorpion "...only 480 x 800 resolution"? 10 years ago, most computers were running 600 x 800 resolution on 15-inch screens, and we were pretty pleased to have that resolution. I've worked with a LOT of phones that have 480 x 800 resolution and it looks just fine.
Bob at Wirefly
wirefly 7 months ago 6
@wirefly lol, thats the thing tho.. now is not ten years ago, and when you get your hands on a phone like sensation 4g or iphone 4 put it beside this phone and see the difference in the pixels and photo quality, specially while doing web browsing.
corruptscorpion 7 months ago
@wirefly YES!! and ten years ago you never heard of touchscreen phones either! the iPhone 4 runs 960x640 and has a 3.5 inch screen......... the thunderbolt's resolution is NOT ok. No argument needed, its just facts.
johnfabris 7 months ago
@johnfabris Actually, a large segment of the population struggles with the tiny 3.5-inch display on the iPhone, regardless of its pretty resolution. I'm the first to agree that the iPhone 4 is a fine device, but choice is a good thing. Your needs are not the same as my needs, and giving us choice is good for all of us.
Bob at Wirefly

for people with htc thunderbolt battery problems:
