  • Awesome video nuff respect. 1

  • Fyah bun'

  • 0:20!

  • how can i find this video entire? what is the name of the file? or title of this film?

  • Inspirational................

  • What's the riddim that starts at 0:21??? I need to know :)

  • There is a LP that came out of this..I played it so much I had to get another copy and convert it to CD...nothing better than the 80's DJ...the best era of reggae music IMO

  • can watch this one over and over again

  • I just stumbled upon this video. and wow, had no idea dancehall's been out for this long. I learned something new today.

And one question. when Lee Van Cliff's singing is that his original song? or like a freestyle or somethin? if it is an original song whats it called?

  • @oblivion2muzik It's his song called "Out A Port"

  • What is the name of the second song?

  • Carlton Livingston is singing in the first 11 sec of the video -it's called "hot hot summer" he has next version called "cold cold winter"

  • i think this video is the best

  • PLZ> Can anyone tell me who is singing in the First 19 secs of this Video?

  • anybody know the riddim blasting at 0:21? its a ruff tune

  • What's the name of the song/riddim from 4.50?

  • @MrJezmez That's a recut of 'Pretty Looks Isn't All' by the Heptones

  • whats the name on the tune at the very begging? that goes so ive got to find a girl

  • Also love the 'Hot Milk' riddim in part 2, where Josey and King Yellow toast over a cut of Carlton Livingston's '100 Weight of Collie Weed.' I love how all the DJs shut the F up when Carlton starts singing, and Yellowman looks at his watch. Classic video!

  • This is one of the very best sound system dance videos on Youtube, probably one of the best ever. There is footage from the original tapes coming out on the new Junjo Lawes 'Volcano Rising' DVD this month on VP. Volcano sound ram dance!

Papa Toyan is really rippin on this vid; his voice is way more raw than on any of his 45s or LPs, almost sounds like a rockstone DJ here. MY NEW NAME IS RIBBIT MAN! RIGHT?

Also love the 'Hot Milk' riddim in part 2, where

  • which is the name of the song from 1:03

  • @rastudofin Diseases Riddim from the Michigan and Smiley track, also 'Zunguzeng' by Yellowman. Sometimes called Mad Mad Riddim from the Alton Ellis chune.

  • most of di MC who were in the dance that night have died R.i.P to papa toyan

R.I.P. - Killed my 2 American black niggers in a botched robbery. They blew off half his head, He couldn't even have an open casket funeral. Them mussi think say every Jamaican have weed connections.

  • Comment removed

  • Very horrible. He went to Harlem N.Y. to sell some weed to these 2 American dudes. He met them on the street and they tried to rob him in broad daylight. And they shot and killed him. They didn't even know that he was Mr. Cliff the reggae sensation.

  • Lee Van Cliff got killed in the midst of making his first album.Never came out,Just 45's. Lui Lepke got killed after he made his first album(out of print).Pappa Toyan got killed after he made his 2 albums.Still in print! Lee Van Cliff was the best of them all!

  • You don't know what you talking about. Lee Van released two full albums and plenty of 12 and 45s. Lepke also released two full albums and plenty 12 and 45s. Toyan released 10 albums.

  • where can i find those volcano tracks up here? that music goes along with 45's.lee van never recorded music that was released in the u.s. those were all compiled 45's. not really albums.lee van started working on his first new album which supposed to be distributed by super power in brooklyn when he was shot by a spanish dude in harlem.you are a fool.those so called album were not even in print a year later.those were all compiled 45's dont even call those tracks albums, you idiot!

  • "Reggae Sunplash" was recorded and released in JA in 1982 when Lee Van was 17. "Rock It To Me Twice" was also recorded and released in JA in 1982. This video you are watching was recorded in 1984.

  • i can send u a few tunes of theirs if u want, msg me back if yu want

  • papa toyan!!bless him -RIP-one of the best!papa dee

  • Rankin toyan is the wickedest. Respect the Yellowman.

  • Good Drop

  • I still can't beleive that all these guys are now dead. R.I.P. Lee Van Cliff,Ranking Toyan,Louie Lepke and Donnie Dread. Love you guys forever.

  • True! i can remember hearing these cats for the frist time in the early 80's. after that I've wanted to play reggae music, in order to keep that style alive.

  • that style kinda wenty out quick.due to the fact that most guys with that style was bad men and all got killed.

  • I totally disagree with you. I don't think that was something that should have been said. You could have kept that comment 2 yourself. Nicodemus, supercat, Yellowman, Burro Banton, 2 name a few have that style and did not die 2 violence.

  • This is true but back then it was raw, hard core, from yard. It was not commercialized like now. I wish there would be some dances like that now

  • Comment removed

  • On the contrary, that style lasted well into the early 90's courtesy of the 12 Tribe Dances and other Old School Dance showcases @ the Biltmore & Tilden Ballrooms in Brooklyn. True, a lot of these brothers and others that came later lost their lives 2 senseless violence, but as long as WE continue to post, play and comment on their music... their legacy... their style, WILL LAST 4 EVER!! Bless
