  • Poor larry - they shouldn't force the young fella

  • Musica da propaganda do tempra hahaha

  • I love this song so very fucking much...

And I do love this version!

  • Man when I first heard this version of night and day I as like, "wow this is exactly what Cole Porter intended when writing this song." Surely this is a masterpiece of music, quite possibly even greater than the greatest song ever made.... Of course, I am citing Rebecca Black's "Person of Interest" released just a few weeks ago. They should really do a duet! Man it's so comforting to see that music is going is such an amazing direction... I would comment more... but I gotta go shear my sheep.

  • TO MY BOYFRIEND: I THINK OF YOU, NIGHT AND DAY...

  • muito bela a musica, mas bela ainda com a voz do bono!

  • First time I heard this song: 1990, approaching Los Angeles at night, alone in my car, the only light was the glow of LA lights off the clouds over the tops of the mountains that ring LA. I knew I was hearing one of the greatest recordings ever made in world history. Awesome.

  • Amazing, bela canção

  • QUESTA PROPRIO NON LA POTEVA CONCEPIRE NESSUN'ALTRO....STRANIANTE, DECADENTE, ALTRA.

  • the best of u2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • night and day con un toque de Brian Eno claramente...

  • [iminent=BdBRn7YVffOB] otima musica d+

  • without a doubt this is possibly U2'S most underrated recording-i like the electronic sound too, i'd like to hear them do more songs like this again!

  • I really don't think Bono's putting enough of himself into this... ;-)

  • Great singing, and the band behind him shines here too.

  • Cole Porter wrote this. There's many excellent versions of this. U2's is the best I've heard in recent years. Look around, Ella Fitzgerald and many others did this many years ago and it sounded cool. But this version ... breathtaking.

  • @vitorary Night and Day is not about AIDS. There was no AIDS when Sinatra wads around. Written by Cole Porter.

  • @vitorary I'm 1/2 Italian trust me I know. he wasn't. I am also a musician.

  • @vitorary You read into stuff too much.

  • This is a Frank Sinatra song. Fort those of you that didn't know.

  • Dark brooding and captures the obsessional nature of the lyrics in the music - must be one of their darkest songs, simply genius

  • @potplan You've absolutely hit the nail on the head with your comment. I feel a deep sadness throughout as well, this song gives me chills every time I hear it and Bono's interpretation of the Porter classic is absolutely phenomenal.

  • Ive been looking for this song for a while. I saw it a few months after my 19th birthday ( 9/4/2010) and was like "OH MY GOD! BONO IS BEAUTIFUL!" i just fell in love with them this year.. glad i did that! they are AMAZING!!!

  • heard this song 2 days ago for the first time on the radio... i'm a u2 fan since the 80s and i was so sure i heard bono's voice in this song so i googled it and only found out more details about it. it's just absolutely great song, not originally from u2 but still well done. LOVE IT!

  • @FIJP It's a Frank Sinatra song.

  • and this

    also cole porter the best

  • What's wrong with you people? This band are horrendous. They do rock and roll a great disservice. Save the planet my arse, arrogant fuckwit tax dodging maniacs more like thir mission is to conquer it with mad christian stadium drivel and then for an encore fuck up any great jazz standard that takes yer fancy. The sooner they endure a huge electric shock up their collective rectums rectum from their overblown stageiness the better. Peace an Love

  • @joehiggs100 Ah shut up hater. You are jealous lol.

  • Even U2 fans don't know this song exists. One of their best.

  • For those wanting to purchase this track, don't click on the iTunes or Amazon links that are listed under the "likes/dislikes" because that it isn't this version that accompanies the video. This version appeared on the Cole Porter tribute record "Red Hot & Blue", whereas the ones you can purchase is a remix version, which isn't nearly as good that appeared on the single for "One". It's quite hard to find this video version especially on iTunes, etc.

  • @Boski391 - Yep. The last thing you said is the reason I came here to hear this song. I fell in love with a girl in 1984, I was in France. I was nine. Then I moved to the US & never saw her again. So much has happened since then, but even after 27 years, I often think of her. She never left my heart. I'd give anything to go back in time. It's just too painful. Sometimes the pain is so great I can't even cry & let it out, so I listen to this song and it helps for a little while. Thanks 4 posting.

  • @aginnsz I like this video. I love U2! :)

  • @aginnsz I know EXACTLY how you feel. and yes sometimes the memory's pain is so intense it feels crippling. i'm still looking for mine. and we love the socially aware and activist of change Bono and the whole U2 gang.

  • @aginnsz We all have that story BUT had we built a life around them we would just be thinking of somebody else we didnt get

  • @aginnsz I think I know exactly how you feel. I've been in love for a girl for the last 23 years. I don't know where she is or what she had done with her life, but it doesn't matter. But perhabps it's better this way...

  • @aginnsz some times the pain that is love is love to the fullest

  • @aginnsz I have a similar problem. Maybe you can still find her, with the social media. I hope you don't let the past intrude into your present. I wish you all the best.

  • this is disgusting. THIS IS DISGUSTING

  • @evanstunes Jealous you are disgusting.

  • colin, colin, colin, please....

  • Most of the greats who have covered this classic standard sing it like a typical love song, I'm not complaining about that because those versions by Sinatra/Ella, etc., are fantastic, but THIS version has dark, tormented, endless obsession written all over it and that's what makes it so compelling. One of U2's best songs and Bono really went deep with his vocals. It's also got a really cool, slightly eerie arrangement too.

  • MAGNIFICENT. No other word can describe it. U2 simply KICK ASS!!!

  • excelente .. sin palabras

  • great song great band life is good

  • DM-esque.

  • i could listen to this song night and day and day and night. i love the dark, weird, poetic atmosphere on this song!

  • so this version isn't bad. it's different. and it's before u2 came to be terrible.

    but nothing can touch frankie.

  • Comment removed

  • Simplismente Magnifico!!!!!

  • Great version and U2 is the best

  • This one is more like the version By Ella

  • @michelplatinileroi Yes...strange, mysterious, haunting, and even slightly disturbing...all wrapped up into something beautiful.

  • I completely forgot about this version of this great song. What a fantastic version!!!!! U2 is such a great band...so glad they were part of my era. Friggin' great!!! Beautiful and haunting ...

  • If only DJ Sasha had sold me the white label 12" dance mix of this tune by U2 in Shelleys Laserdome 1990. He even had 2 copies. After all those free drinks I gave him. GRRRRRRRR!

It was only sent to the most popular DJ's of the time. VERY VERY RARE!

U2 are living legends. They make music for the love of it & not like todays fake asses.

  • Leave it to Bono, he can always sing a song.

  • I can listen to this song like 10+ times in a row lol

  • the edge had hair

  • this song takes on a whole new dimension when u2 recorded it - they really captured the nature of obsession the original didn't.

  • Get the Red Hot & Blue CD its worth it

  • theKomadrummer..............il padre di tutti gli idioti...(e sicuramente nn il mio) leggi i testi delle canzoni e ascoltale............

  • bono è il più grande stronzo del mondo.

  • Bono really does shape shift on here

  • e una canzone straordinaria

  • I agree with the first, obsession, not love. Nonetheless, obsession is good sometimes.... ;)

  • Where did you get this?? !! I heard this long ago on a tribute to Cole Porter cd. I love it! Thanks so much!!

  • U2's brooding interpretation of Cole Porter's original takes you right into the heart of darkness... Portentous synths and Bono's deranged, soaring vocals are breathtaking. An overlooked masterpiece.

  • Ladies and gentlemen: this is Bono's voice. No one can compare to him when it comes to sing a song like this one.

  • @madmachine1 i think old boy frankie sinatra would disagree my friend

  • @irishcowboy42 well, dead people can't confirm as facts do. so I'll let facts give an answer to your statement: Bono and Sinatra were good friends and Sinatra wanted Bono to duet with him in a well known song of his repertoire "I've got you under my skin". feel free to search on YouTube for that duet and the way Bono sing it. So I think "old boy frankie sinatra" would agree with me. The way Bono sings Porter's lines, it's so intense and it depicts its covered meaning. the obsession with a lover.

  • @madmachine1 Good friends?? You are having a laugh yeah... And lets be honest about this the only reason why Mr Sinatra did the Duet's CD was first and foremost publicity to retain and prolong the legacy that he had built up over generations... Bono was easy pickings given the profile of both artists.

Do not get me wrong okay i admire (being an irishman) what U2 have achieved over the years and the great ambassadors they have been for our country and the wearing of the heart on the sleeve.

  • @madmachine1 yeah when he still had a voice and dignity

  • As much as I love all the other renditions of this song, no doubt that U2 is one of all time best. Great Bono and the guys. Thanks.

  • Achtung Baby was born during Night and Day.

  • @EnjoyTheSurface I can actually see this song fitting perfectly on that album. The album would still be a classic.

  • Not a huge U2 fan, but this version is so awesome. This is an extremely haunting and dark version of f Porter's Song. Bono's voice and the rest of the band set a steady balanced rhythm for this song. This song is superbly done by U2, I think I actually prefer this rendition to others. Dark and Brooding yes, but it seems to have added to the depth of this song. This song reaches out to me as I drive along the highway late at night alone under stars....thinking of a woman who I long for.

  • @Boski391 Wonderful song,awesome remake and...great comment !

Can't agree more from the first to the last word.

  • @indigoblue555 Thanks.

  • NOBODY sings it better than Bono. U2 ! the top of the tops.

  • woh putain c'est quoi cette pépite qui me saute a la gueule

bordel le bono à la fin il pue la classe à des années lumieres a la ronde

  • This song is an interesting direction they should have explored further I think.

Very dark, almost Goth. Very nice.

  • Guy sounds like his soul is infected, great painful vocals.

  • i had ever love this group since i was 20, u2 is the best band in the world.

  • I love the classic but this one is amazingly haunting. The intensity is just something that captures you and lingers way after it's over. Thank you for posting had watched the honda commercial trying to figure it out. Finally found it

  • This is my favorite version of this song. U2 undone themselves again.

  • probably U2's best song

  • I'd like to thank U2 for this dark and powerful version of this classic and also for introducing me to the world of jazz and all these unforgettable burning idols: Cole and Sinatra! Long life to Paul Hewson, Larry, Edge and Adam!

  • I forgot how amazing this cover is...dark like The Unforgettable FIRE

  • É pessoal - onde o U2 "poe a mao" tudo fica bom! Realmente me impressionou, como trabalharam a musica sem destoar da grande obra ! E Bono é o cara! Perfeitos (mais uma vez)!!!!

  • never ever will the brothers sing a song as dark as this again.absolutely fucking brilliant.

  • roarrrr makes me shiver... how charismatic his calm soothing apeareance, seemed you could feel what he feels... wow!

  • Always thought of this as a trippy one-off for U2. Has a hypnotic quality to it.

  • its amazing just how ahead of their time they were. I can hear a lot of modern bands in this song. Just goes to prove how influential they really are.

  • The original was from a guy to a guy

  • @poetcomic1 yea its no secret that he was into guys! Love the way u2 did this song.

  • I love this song so much!!

  • couldnt get this song outta my head all day and night and day.........

  • Noooooo! Nooooooo! I love U2, and I LOVE Cole Porter, but this is WRONG!

  • You can see the Fly coming alive in this video... like Aliens... so fucking cool...

  • i ragazzi del muretto

  • QUESTI ERANO GLI INIMITABILI U2 GRANDI

  • @bozzanone

Gli U2 erano, sono e saranno Inimitabili e Grandi.

  • Cole Porter was a brilliant but troubled guy. A heroin addict and something else not normal.

  • @robertlaf He was homosexual. No big deal.

  • I love U2 but Im not happy with what they did with this classic...

  • U2 - Night and Day (Steel String Remix)

  • U2 did a much better version than this, mixed by a third party, it is superb.

  • An interesting time for these fellas - still dressed in their Rattle & Hum duds - but very much sounding like a band about to make one of the greatest albums of all time - Achtung Baby! I remember watching this vid over and over as an obsessed 13 year-old - they made such a profound impression on me....

  • Comment removed

  • Pleasantly surprised. This version comes from a different point of interpretation; it is uncluttered man. It is raw energy.

  • Finalmente l'ho trovata.....E' un secolo che sto cercando questa canzone solamente sentendola PAURA

  • ,,,beatiful song beatiful cover 

  • Oh, wow! I had this on Red Hot + Blue on cassette years and years ago!!!

  • wow, this a great cover

  • Even as a cover song, probably U2's most unusual song in that it's entirely electronic. Too bad they didn't play around with electronic stuff a little more, but they're rock musicians at the core. I remember this was made for the "Red Hot and Blue" soundtrack (AIDS benefit comp).

  • muito legal

  • yes, it's about Obsession and U2 have really hit the nail on the head here, shows their brilliance, adore this version!!! aaarrrgh

  • Best U2 Song Ever

  • nice little Edgey-style solo....

  • bestt version. probably best lovesong ever.

  • Love and Obsession ARE the same. Let the psychologists say their nonsense. When you're truly in love all you want to do is feel your body against the other person's and when they're even 6 ft away you feel a longing for their skin. I mean if their isn't something of this song in a relationship, then what's the point? To me, feeling this way about another person the way this song expresses it. I mean to experience this feeling with another person, isn't that why we're all here?

  • @PsychicHarvardGrad I beleive we're here to love not necessarily (what this song conveys) lust over another. This song is about lusting for another in a obsessed manner. Lust is sometimes replaced by genuine love and respect.. Lust has an expiration point and is only for a time that it burns like a raging fire within. Having said that I do believe everyone should experience this feeling at least once, albeit however painful and tormenting it can be if not recipricated.

  • Francesca419,

thank you. I just ordered the CD.

    patricia

  • Best cover in the world!! from start to the end a long unique shiver...

  • this song is a classic...U2s version is powerful..passionate..perfect....... for Nicolette xxx

  • Happy birthday Adam!!!!! <3

  • the Best!!

  • I have a lot of memories of this song. I had a shitty job at a plastics factory, I was getting fat lol, girls I wanted to date always seemed to be taken.....this was one of those songs I really loved in 1990....U2 FOREVER. Thanks bono/adam/edge/larry for all the great music and inspiration.

  • Beautifully performed!

  • The original version from Cole Porter is a love song, from U2, it's a song of passion. I love them both.

  • Cole Porter wrote this song. He said it was about obsession not love. The other versions don't get that - this one does. Over the top, I could listen to it all day.

  • True!

I'm not a huge fan of U2 - you have to listen to a lot of crap to occasionally find a good one - frustratingly, they have made some absolutely brilliant songs in amongst the rubbish, so I have to keep listening! But I know what you mean about this version hitting the mark when others haven't. Bono's an average singer but he delivers this one fantastically I have to say!

  • @patriciajd1 you;re right...this is a song about obsession...and I think what makes this version so great is that U2 captures the obsesion...the professions of love that border on blackness, vocals that drip desperation....simply amazing! It is from an album "Red Hot & Blue" It is a tribute to Porter...some great stuff on there!

  • @patriciajd1

tout simplement magnifique . à voir et ecouter quelques perles sur cet album RED HOT AND BLUE : Annie Lenox, lisa Stansfield et KD Lang

  • @patriciajd1 You mean you could listen to this night & day. : ) Me too

  • I didn't like this when it started because of the drum sound, but holy shit it grows on you. The video's great, interesting as it was such a transitional period for them.

  • Acho me apaixonei quando ouvi essa música a primeira vez... Aí, descobri que minha admiração e carinho de fã, ia pernamecer "noite e dia"! kkkkkkk Ou melhor, até hj.........

  • This is a great song!! I remember being a kid playing this video over and over.

  • Propaganda do tempra heheh

  • Propaganda do Kadett !!!!!!!

  • I love Ella's version but this is the best one ever!!!!!!!!!!!! - makes me want to cry.

  • I love frank sinatre, but i have to say that this version is mindblowing!!!!

  • Loved this song, this era. Good times. I'll never forget.

  • YOU ARE THE ONE ...NIGHT AND DAY <3 <3 <3

  • @BlackBembel,thank you sweetie, and U 2 night and day KUSS KUSS <3 <3<3

  • I just found "In A Lifetime " with Clannad- my favorite song. In about a week I won't be able to live without this song entrenched in my mind , either! Fabulous!!

  • After the 'Rattle & Hum' debacle, U2 made like David Bowie and went to Berlin to "dream it all up again". In those pre-Internet days, when bands could really disappear if they wanted to, this clip was the first I'd heard of the Berlin sessions. It was World AIDS Day 1990, and I was in Brussels. I had almost given up on U2. But after seeing this video on MTV Europe, I leaned back on my sofa and knew all right was with the world again. The video's Berlin backdrop sealed the deal for me.

  • @SKWalrus "I leaned back on my sofa and knew all was right with the world again". My feelings at the time exactly. I remember thinking if this is the new "dream" they're having..I'm ready to follow. Next song I heard was Actung's "The Fly" and the glorious revolution was upon us

  • I first heard/saw "The Fly" on a November 1991 Saturday mornig in Berlin, and I wasn't sure what to think of it. But after I heard it again almost the same time of day a week later, I couldn't get it out of my head. It's one of my all-time U2 favs. It's one of their most important tracks, and is perhaps why we still talk about U2 today. Until that moment, they'd had devolved into a joke punchline in many music circles. "The Fly/Achtung Baby" made them matter again. WATCH MORE TV!

  • I hope U2 plays this on the 2010 leg of the NLOTH tour.

  • Great song!! Looking back, this performance was really a precursor to what they were going to do on Achtung Baby. Just brilliant!!

  • Imagine a Star Wars musical by Disney. This is the song Darth Vader can sing to Luke.

  • Don't underestimate the power of the dark side... young Jedi.

  • what an evil song. i play the standart at the moment on my jazz guitar and normally i'm not a fan of things like this. but this song kicks ass. night and day as a story of passion, pain and suffer. great!

  • um dos melhores de u2 e ouvir e viajar

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • This was done for an aids CD called RED HOT and BLUE..Brilliant CD with many great artists doing Cole Porter songs.

  • Bono said he selected Night and Day to sing as if he were the AIDS virus, obsessive and tormenting. Brilliant. One of the most beautiful songs ever written, but he found the dark side, for certain!

  • I remember listening to this when it was first released and loving it then. It's very dark and chilling scary almost. I'm not a U2 fan (Can't stand Bono sorry) but I do like a number of their songs this rendition is definitely one of them.

  • This song is not theirs, it's cole porter's.

  • I know which is why I said this RENDITION.

  • Oh, sorry. My mistake

  • being familiar with this version, it's so funny to hear the older interpretations. they're all so light & sweet, so benign. u2 struck at the dark core of the song, which is about dangerous, all-consuming obsession. "this torment won't be through til you let me spend my life making love to you...". they knocked it out of the park. thanks for posting.

  • i absolutely hate u2, but this song breaks be down something horrible. it's too good an interpretation of cole porter's idea for the lyrics, but that's a good thing. really beautiful.

  • That falsetto note is easily one the highest ever. Just...wow!

  • how come we never see this on TV, hear it on the radio, it gets no exposure....oh yeah, it has been overshadowed by the infamous crowdpleasers. pity, greatly underrated track.

  • i Still have the CD where this song is on and still when i hear this song,it takes me right in another dimension. The voice of Bono in this track hits me still everytime...raw,dark and so beautifull..perfect! and soooo clear where this cover of the original song was made for....."A benefit to Cole Porter to benefit AIDS research"...perfect song...perfect band....bravo!
