I love Operation Ivy and your cover. I learn by ear too, but I usually use a pick, cept on slow/reggae songs, because the bassist of both OPIV and Rancid does.
@Gilpow Yeah, I used to play with nail and fingers too. I'd play really fast by moving my fore finger and middle finger back and forth really fast, but it just became tedious keeping the nails the right length. Plus, you just can't get the same sound with nails as you can with pick.
It's a personal thing. This video is one year old, i was playing with my nail, not with a pick xD Now i learned to play with a pick and it's better. Anyway, i like the sound of the rhytm made by using a pick more than the one made by using the fingers
