Thanks for listening . . . You can't control the loops separately if that's what you mean. But you can make sub-loops and go back and forth between them.
Does this pedal/unit work like a "tracking" sketch pad... like it would keep at least a few of the loops separate so I could drop them in the computer later as individual tracks if I like the ideas?
Seems most keep merging as they record each pass.
I just can't see building something great and them not being able to use the parts individually in the computer.
so i'm trying to understand how the echoplex works. I do a lot of looping on ableton but its all digital nothing analog. I understand that the echoplax is just a rack unit, so what is the footswitch you are using? Do you have to buy a foot switch for the echoplex seperately? also, how is the foot switch connected to the echoplex? thanks in advance!
The echoplex is the white unit in the rack. There are two other units below it in the rack -- a delay and a reverb. The foot controller controls all of the functions of the echoplex.
In my last response I meant to say "Gibson bought Oberheim", which is the company that originally produced the Echoplex. As far as I know, they're still being produced. When I bought my unit about 7-8 years ago, I think it cost about $600. Check out an internet site called "Looper's Delight" if you want to know everything about looping . . .
I used to own a Mesa Nomad 55. Greatest amp I have ever owned. I like what you are doing here. Do you like the Parker guitars? I was recommended one... I just never got around to trying them out. Great job with this demo!
One can do tricks with feedback that would ordinarily overamplify. Very strange things can be done: play the guitar with puffs of air on strings, paintbrushes, etc.
Music is music no matter what is used to write it. You could use your ass cheeks as drums and you nose as a flute and you hair as a guitar and if it sounds awesome people would still listen to it.
dude,great.i have an oberheim echoplex,with old bage,light color,hooked to a mesa/boogie triaxis+simul-class 2:90.And a parker fly, older classic.you have inspired metoget it back together and also create agin.Thank You,and God Bless You,Peace.

I love Redavide's music, and his guitars (for the most part). But this vid crystallizes what is so aggravating about the Parker fly. The inorganic materials? The tone sounds like shit---I absolutely *hate* to say it. What may have happened w/these luthiers (perhaps not consciously) in creating these instruments was that the absolute need of & for human beings in order to complete the 'magic' instrument was forgotten. Music is a dialectic process, no process if no room for one.
I am, sir, which makes it all the more surprising that it is still being used for this 'one-man band' stuff whereas Martin's stuff was inspirational and unique using the old tape Echoplex. I personally used an old WEM Black Cat Vari-speed echo deck with the erase head covered with an old bottle top.
There's always an old-timer who talks about how things were better "back in my day", etc., etc. . . . Martyn (that's the correct spelling of his name) simply used what technology was available at the time . . .
Awesome, awesome stuff. My Echoplex has been collecting dust because I never could follow the manual. I was going to sell my but after hearing your piece I decided to take another crack at it.
Thanks for the comment. Yes, take another crack -- forget the manual, just play around with the unit and you'll get the hang of it. The manual is OK for reference, but if you try to read it you'll go crazy . . .
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you liked it. Besides the Echoplex, I used a Parker Mojo guitar with a bit of reverb from a Lexicon MPX 100 and delay from an old Lexicon Jamman. The amp is a Boogie Mark IV. That's everything.
Check out the Looper's Delight website and go to "Tools of the Trade", then to Echoplex Pro for a full explanation of what you can do with it. There's not really a simple answer to your question, so it's best to look there and see for yourself. I use it live and it's very dependable.
lol, stop trying to fight the smiles there man. This video is amazing, def makes me smile. You ever think of putting out an EP? You know quit the day job, travel the world? No, but honestly, this is such a beautiful piece. Take it easy.

Yes, Gibson bought Echoplex at some point -- this is a Gibson Echoplex . . .

I understand that this item is no longer in production, is that true? If so, too bad. It does a really nice job. Any idea what the retail cost was?

At least John Martin did something original with it over 30 years ago.
faliklunj 3 years ago
It didn't exist 30 years ago. You're probably thinking of the old tape echoplex which has absolutely nothing to do with this one.
