Ok, a higher civilization grew the crystals and polished them and had zero gravity environment and all that... but why in the shape of a skull? Why a human skull and not let's say... a nut, or an ant-eater? plus, if you can't actually date crystal skulls, how can you tell apart the "ancient" ones from the more recent ones?

@mariuslupercus I believe the crystal was fashioned in the shape of skulls so that they would be recognized when found and therefore have some significance to which we could relate. Anything else may have been or maybe overlooked.

@mariuslupercus Well does it make any sense to you that we are perhaps a creation of an Alien civilization and the skulls are a database of information that when we are able to unlock one, the knowledge of our existence could be unleashed and every answer of OUR creation could be answered? That is why the shape of the crystal is a skull. Something we can recognize and make the symbol of importance as it is part of us, in essence.
