There are no stupid questions! The point is to combine physical systems with interaction so that people can experiment with how they can program and interact with physical devices, in this case one that is aesthetically beautiful because it's distributed throughout a garden and makes a very natural sound (rather than using, say, speakers). It's about experience, wonder and exploration-- not practicality. I hope that helps!
