  • I have a kimono, but I don't have the koshihimo, obiita, datejime belt or obi sash. I have a thin belt that is the same colour as the kimono. What is this for?

  • @pinkhippie135 yukata is made of cotton it seems a bit thinner than the kimono the yukata is a more of a summer kimono or p.js kimono or fr after going to a bathhouse is more formal and requires more layers and things than yukata

  • great! but is so hard!

  • Kimono = carbon copy of Chinese Hanfu

  • @mekon11

The structure of kimono and hanfu is quite different.

By the way, I have never seen chinese women wearing hanfu though we japanese often put on kimono.

maybe general chinese don't know even how to put on hanfu.

chinese destroyed a traditional clothes by their own hands.

manchurian dress is well-known worldwide as "china dress" though it might be disgrace for chinese.

  • Wow, great video! You should enter your video into this contest, Ewisdomtv

  • ティーショット熙、私は面白いよ!

  • Looks can be desiving...

  • i want to show my school's japanese culter club what a kimono looks like. websites say i shoul;d wear a furisode but a yukata looks more comfortable. which should i wear?

  • i think you should use a yukata...

furisode is too much expensive and you need all the underwares...

    yukata is cheaper

  • my aunt goes to japan about 2 or 3 times a year & she gets me a yukata every couple of years & the last time she got me one she had to get an adult size because it was longer but its still to short & its way to big! the shoulder seams go down to my elbow! haha!

  • Wow I need this information!!!! thanks!!! ^_^

  • It's beautiful I love Japanese kimono. I'd love to visit Tokyo one day.

  • @dilliondemand My dads been to Tokyo! He is lucky. :P

  • loved this video! it was very clear and easy to understand with a little humor. i would like to know how to do a proper hair style and make up for a kimono and yukata (are they different)? i have been requested to wear both for my friend's (foreigner's) wedding since she has asked me to be a bridesmaid. i will be coming from japan to her country and i dont know much about either so your video was very helpful. thank you!

  • Thanks for the Tutorial:3

  • Arigato!

  • arigatou*

  • thank you!!!!

    So useful!! :)

  • does this work for any kind of kimono? i cant find a good tutorial for dressing in a furisode ^^;

  • I'm curious about this, too. I wonder if yukata kitsuke is substantially different if one were to be wearing a kimono for a different season. Not a furisode or anything, but just like a komon type.

  • This video saved me many times, and it got me interested in the differences. When wearing a komon or the like, one wears a juban with a stiff collar. This keeps the kimono collar back...what else....a hanhaba (half-width) obi can be worn with a komon but a nagoya can too. It depends on the occassion. Hope this helped! ^^

  • I'm wearing a Kimono right now ;D

  • leftover rice (:

i should tell that to my sensei (:

    this was very informational! thanks.

  • This video is very useful ^^ I've learned a lot! Doumo arigatou gozaimasu.

  • Great video i learned from this

  • Indeed, 'left over right' is important...if I remember correctly, if you dress it right over left, you're dressing someone for their funeral.

Does anyone know if my information is correct?

  • yes. right over left is how corpses wear kimono before they are cremated.

  • best video i ever seen and so well described D thx very much

  • Thanks for this great video - I finally learned how to wear mine properly!

  • Very interesting! I have never seen this before!

They really look nice but i wonder if they are also comfortable to wear?

I have to try it ....

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Yukata are constricting but they are comfortable in their own way. But depending on how you're built the obi can be VERY uncomfortable (that is, if you're bustier) - never slouch.

  • thank you very much for your kindly explanation!

Well i think i probably try it in the summer to wear one :) I wish you much happyness with your yukata!

  • Leftover rice!

    How brilliant.

I never thought of that distinction.

This video is more in-depth than any book I've to read.

    Thank you very much!

  • coool even though im a boy..i was curious!!!

  • Domo Arigato! -Bows fervently- This is a giant help and I plan on keeping this handy for when I get my own Yukata. I really like the "Leftover rice" saying that'll help me a lot because on occasion I do tend to forget. Once again, domo arigato!

  • Wow~nice theory of "Leftover rice"..which also rhymes with "Left over Right"..thanks for the info!!

  • OMG OMG thank you so much *bow bow* arigato! this is wondwefull what a help, how ever did you come across such a superb video?

  • I wanna wear kimono, but its hard.

I use my aunts yukata collection, since theyre more easier. And this is helpful for the obi part.

I dress myself up alone when wearing a yukata. Lol.

  • ty for this video all this time i dont understand for what is the yukata and why kimono was to long im always think it was because the made kimonos for tall people hahahahaa ty 4 video

  • im gonna buy yukata next week and i didn't even know how to wear it..

this vid helps a lot~~ thx for uploading~

  • both of the videos are great!!!

    Many, many thanks to you!!!

I think, i watch it the thousand time!!!

    *i'm so happy*

Finally a video to learn... thank you!!!

  • what if you don't have a obi??

i bought my yukata at a mall and it didn't come with the obi!!!

am i suppose to buy it or can i just wear the yukata with the obi?

  • Kimono and Yukata would be unfinished without the Obi. It's basically a MUST HAVE. But if you are just wearing it around the house then I don't see why you can't. :)

  • whats with the demo models hair??

  • Thanks very much for the upload! My friend is gonna be in a Yukata contest at a Matsuri tomorrow and we panicked when we forgot how to tie the Obi. ^^; I'm supposed to help her put on the Yukata, so we're watching this together. Thanks again!

  • well...... its nice!

  • Lolololol, leftover rice! <3

For those who don't know, right-over-left is worn only by the dead. I don't know much about the cultural implications, but I would assume it means you're going to commit suicide.

  • well! but, is the same steeps for wear a men´s kimono??!

    ありがおう ございます!

  • if there's a version for dansei kimono, it would be very helpful!

  • Thanks for the video, I needed a refresher course.

  • このビデオをアップロードどもありがとうございました!

(Haha, sorry - my japanese isn't so good :3

    Because I'm from Denmark!)

I've just bought a yukata, and I didn't know how to put it on properly, so I was really happy when I found this video! Thank you!

  • Left over right is correct. Only dead people wears right over left. Funeral yukata ^^

  • Hi this is Bonita,

Thank you for puting this video on you tube. I will be buying this dvd as a gift for my friend Miranda.

  • I have a yukata myself. It's very beautiful, but very old. It's about from the 1870s. I love it so much.

  • Nice this! easy to understand the dressing kimono and yukata.

    (着物・浴衣の着付け方知ってまする?)

    wrote my transration styles.

  • T.T don't be rude

  • Thank you for putting this video up. I always wondered how to wear a yukata properly. I knew it was a bit different than a kimono. So once again thank you.

  • HAHAHAHA! "leftover rice!"

  • Thank you very much, domo arigato gozaimasu for your comment.
