  • Beautiful.

  • Rest in Peace Ronnie Drew. I had the misfortune of not finding him until he was already gone... But I have enjoyed his music every since I found it. His voice was so heartfelt and it makes you feel good inside. I will pass his voice on to all that I know. The beloved Dub will not be lost in time. I swear to it.

  • Rest in Piece Ronnie Drew and Reimar Stukenberg!!!

  • @MetalMidgard

    Raise your Glasses to both

  • Mr. Drew reminds me of Johnny Cash. A voice composed of a trillion, yet significant, individual attributes that contrive an unmicicable, uncontestable, unforgetable vocal ballet. This is a voice that can adamize a timeless legacy. R.I.P Ronnie Drew, you have achieved immortality.

  • rip mate!! well never forget ya!!!

  • Here's to the Ronnie, The Voice we adore!

  • a true man. we'll never see your likes again

  • i could listen to to this song for ever.....Rest easy Mr.Drew

  • One of my favourites and I only heard it for the first time about 4 days ago

  • What a voice. Dripping with character. Unique & unforgettable.

  • who wrote this song?

  • Not sure who wrote the tune to this, but Patrick Kavanagh wrote the poem about himself.

  • It's interesting to hear Patrick Kavanagh say his poem, but it lacks the depth that Ronnie's voice brings to it. PK's is to thin and high-pitched. Love this song.

  • Post the link to PK version if it is on YouTube please, I'd like to hear it :-)

  • @lreland1 PK's version is here:

  • @STRUGLINGCHILD Excellent thanks a lot for pointing that out.

  • I'll make sure my children hears his voice, and brings it on to their children. Such a voice should never be forgotten.

  • even if i did not know Ronnie Drew, i did find his songs so beautiful, and his voice so special that i cannot but grieve his leaving...dramatics are not generally encouraged, but Ronnies singing voice was so dramatic that we now miss it, and miss him for all that. Sweet peace to you Ronnie Drew.

  • May he rest in the grandest bar in heaven, and enjoy a few gargles, his was a once off, bless you Ronnie.

  • Lovely song! Just have to admire Ronnie's talent. My hands down favorite singer.

  • After Kavanagh and Ronnie decided to go for a few sups , they listed all the pubs they were barred from, hence Kavanagh's suggestion re Dun Laoghaire (I hope this makes sense)

  • LOL aye, anyone who has heard the story will know what you're talking about. Anyone who hasn't will think you are either an illiterate fool or extremely drunk :-). This was the last time Ronnie met Kavanagh before Kavanagh died.

  • My last comment has been badly truncated

  • There is a story part substantiated by Ronnie.

Ronnie met with Kavanagh, they decided to Kavanagh says "ok Feck The begrudgers, we will have to catch the DART down to Dun Laoghaire. Will you Feck off I'm barred out of the town for life (Ronnie was from Dun Laoghaire)

Kavanagh touched his cap and said well maybe a Jar when our memories aren't so good!

  • Is this the version on "The Homour is on Me Now" Hope so cuz I just bought it after hearing this.

  • Pardon the typing, I really can spell.

  • the more ilsten to this the more iappreciate the genius of kavanagh

  • ronnie makes this his own

  • a classic

  • my name is austin

  • There was a piece of this song with Ronnie in a program with Jools Holland recorded in O'Donoghues about 10 years ago

  • Had never heard this one before. Ronnie Drew's voice suits the song perfectly.

  • I agree. I first heard this in the Gaiety theatre in 2005 at the Legends of Irish Folk concert and was humming this to myself for weeks after.
