  • She was great at this audition. Much better than the others I've seen. You really feel she cares.

  • Bobby Benson?? As what? Han or Luke??

  • I'm a Jedi Knight, and I practice Mind Control. *Sizzle sizzle* Now if you're a lonesome woman, take off all your clothes, and jump on my lap.

  • Actually this dialogue needs to be included in the Starwars Canon Carrie putting on the sexy voice at this point, to initially try and seduce some loyalty from Han Solo would be the beginning of the Solo/Lia romance.

  • The problem with these interviews is that they lack direction so it isn't what we remember her being like.

  • What's up with her teeth?

  • @planetrockford Nothing. The video is obviously very old and....ohhhh you were trying to be funny! I see. You're not you know. You're not a funny person. On behalf of the people watching YouTube videos I'd like to ask that you stop trying.

  • she was 21!

  • Who was that guy in the beggining? :D

  • @heihererjeg45 Robby Benson

  • Nerfherder--I mean Han + Leia = forever

    xD

  • After seeing the other auditions for the role I can see why Carrie was picked. Despite the fact that her tone here is calmer than in the movie her voice and readiness adds the command and sharpness that Lea required.

  • @LongandGeneric i fully agree , after watching the rest i can see why they picked her. man feel like watching it again!

  • she really shined in these auditions. some of the others were really underwhelming.

  • i wonder how many times a day Carrie farts??

  • @XYtruck25

She's old and female... probably a lot.

  • @XYtruck25 lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @elgran...He did. In this he was just asked to read the script so the others could do their auditions. But he was so good at it, he actually got asked to do the part in the film.

  • This is so unlike the real leia! I like it better!

  • Ah, history being made...

  • Her best part was in Shampoo

  • I want to interrogate her.

  • Carrie Fisher went from cute in Star Wars to very pretty in The Empire Strikes Back to devastatingly sexy in Return Of The Jedi.

  • @Contakum cocaine's a helluva drug.

  • @Contakum and to Jabba the Hut now

  • @Contakum

And then she went from Rubens-shaped to very chubby to devastatingly fat.

  • @Contakum then to super-hot stalker ex-girlfriend in The Blues Brothers then into "your friend's old drunk mom" in the rest of her life.

  • @Contakum Care to continue? :-)

  • Very cute back then. Shame that 35 years later, she's had too much surgery, completely bonkers and currently in a Star Wars vs. Star Trek spat with Bill Shatner!

  • she should have auditioned with the slave bikini on

  • Carrie was so pretty.

    Love it.

  • She nailed this audition. Carrie and Harrison were a good pair in this movie.

  • HER MOM WAS HOT TOO

  • I'm listening to the audio of Carrie's book 'Wishful Drinking' and it's hilarious.Apparently she went to drama school in London, which she explains was the reason for the english accent that comes and goes.

  • It's a pitty George Lucas is such a miserable director that he couldn't have captured a performance more like these. Instead, every Star Wars scene is wooden.

  • @bcbock PT yes OT no.

  • Harrison was a reader. He wasn't auditioning in the scene. He knows the lines by heart because he read with everyone who auditioned. He even played other characters for Lucas for auditioning actors to read against. He was never intended to be hired as an actor. Just a reader.

I remember Carrie Fisher said she was so nervous about reading with Harrison because he was much older, confident, calm and was already a 'friend' of Lucas;)

  • Harrison's a great actor. I'm not a fan of Han Solo but he was good. Carrie.. eh. I guess with some good direction she did a creditable job. Harrison's a natural IMHO.

  • She didn't use the English accent lol

  • They shouldn't have taped down her fat lil boobs, would have been fun to watch em jiggle during the asteroid chase in ESB. obi wan kenobi would have fed her his dianooga

  • This is really interesting! She seems to be putting more "princess", more "regal" into her performance here than she finally did. Makes Leia seem more aloof, maybe more in control, but less ballsy.

  • @OakPark11MileRd HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...silly troll

  • @DunklinDonuts Nonetheless, your story was erroneous, and you are full of shit. "American Graffiti" was released in 1973, stupid.

  • @Hoopamazing I can't help but wonder why you're trolling a person who you consider to be a "stupid kid" who is "full of shit." I can only say that you must be so insecure in yourself that you feel you have to lash out at children and call them stupid to prove to others, and more so to yourself, that you're intelligent.

  • Fucking hot!

  • Carrie Fisher was a very handsome woman back then...

  • I would beat the brakes off of the 70's Carrie Fisher!!! This audition wasn't that great for her but she made up for it in the movie.

  • Harrison Ford was actually a handy man fixing a door on the set of Star Wars when someone asked him to read lines with the actresses auditioning for the part of Leia. He did so well that he was later given the part he was reading in those auditions, Han Solo.

  • @DunklinDonuts Not really. See my comments on the Mark Hamill video or pick up the book "The Making of Star Wars" by J.W. Rinzler.

  • @DunklinDonuts i hate facts did u know she carrie fisher done coke whilst filming the empire strikes back

  • @DunklinDonuts So he was a handyman before or after he starred in American Graffiti? Or the other various acting roles he had before that? Or is he like the Buckaroo Bonzai of contract work?

  • @DunklinDonuts It wasn't the set of Star Wars, he was doing fine carpentry on an office door, when he was noticed.

  • Comment removed

  • @DunklinDonuts Harrison Ford had been an actor since the 60's. I have heard the carpenter comment from Lucas which you are referring to, but I think it was just crazy artist humor. Ford had been one of the top billed actors in American Graffiti, not long before Star Wars, and was getting major Hollywood attention because of it. That's probably where Lucas' humor was based, since the truth of it was, in classic Hollywood tradition, Lucas was hitting on the latest sensation.

  • @DunklinDonuts He had actually worked with Lucas in American Graffiti.

  • @DunklinDonuts roflmao who the hell told you that??

  • she was quite pretty :)

  • wow! this is pretty awesome! is that Daniel Day Lewis at the beginning for just an instant? :-O

  • Watching this and knowing Han and Leia get married and have kids... kinda odd. Maybe it's just me. lol

  • 1:50

    Beautiful.

  • Carrie Fisher was Fan-bloody-tastic!

  • I can't believe she was only 18-19 in this audition... she seems so mature.

  • I was so in love with her in the 70's and 80's.

  • DAMN! Carrie Fisher was fucking HOT!

  • She was such a cute honey back then. Looks like the all american gf or wife. Even in the burbs she was a cutie pie. Years of smoking, alcohol, drugs and obesity...crying shame but we all can't lead perfect lives and live with the choices we make. Who says settling down and being married would have been better. Her parents tried that and Eddie destroyed that dream and his kids by running off with Elizibeth Taylor, you know, the cunt who just died and is hailed as this humanitarian.

  • She needs to lean forward more... or at least show some titiy....

  • I still love Carrie Fisher. This is amazing to see. I'm glad that they put this on Youtube.

  • Carrie Fisher looked so much better without that goofy Princess Leia earmuff hairdo.

  • Carrie Fisher was hot at 19, shame she let herself go by the 90s and beyond. She reads the lines slower I noticed on this audition, she comes across as more at ease and kinder whereas in the film she was all sassy and sharp when she executed them, wonder if that was innovation on her behalf or direction from Lucas.

  • Carrie's enunciation has gone to hell in a handbasket in the past 10 years. She speaks like a boozy old hag. Poor thing.

  • Carrie is one the best personalities in Hollywood ever!

  • got that great classic trans Atlantic accent of the old movie stars...

  • @novanine9 yeah but she ditched it after the first movie. and even if the first movie she only talked like that in a couple scenes, like when she's talking to vader and tarkin

  • she was actually pretty good. If it were up to me, it would have been between her and Terri Nunn..but, Carrie was better in the end, of course.

Also, I find it odd, that when she slated, they had her say her age, too. Usually they do that with minors and not legal adults.

  • I don't know these lines...

  • I was in love with her as a kid when the movie 1st came out..I had good taste even before puberty, haha. I think she was the breast choice for the part xD

  • 'whats in that little droid that's so blasted important?' lol

  • carrie did cocaine, sorry dutch word for cocaine is coke

  • carrie did coke

  • She delivered in the films and was very hot 'n sexy

  • Damn she was cute and her voice was damn sexy.

  • Wow, that dialogue was waay TV. Too much discussion. Of course, this was obviously pre- 'happen upon the Death Star'.

  • wow. amazing. i wish she had done more films after seeing this.

  • What about the Younglings??

  • She was so sexy! That is actually a lot of dialog. She was only 18 or 19 at the time and she could deliver like a veteran. She is an under-rated actress.

  • I wish the audio was in sync. This is so awesome, though. I am so thankful that George selected the actors he did for the original trilogy. He hit home run after home run in selecting them. Not like in the prequels where he based his decisions on what the actors looked like rather than whether or not they could act or play the part.

  • @Roadstar1602 Yeah, I don't get why some of my audition videos are out of sync. I don't remember them being like that when I first uploaded them. What's really odd is that other clips I uploaded then are in sync....yet they were all cut from the same master file. Which is totally in sync on my hard drive.

  • @dukeofcrydee just try to upload again. sometimes Youtube does a crappy job of compressing the video before it loads.

  • @jeremalaria I did. No luck. Something about this particular section of video and YouTube just do not mix.

  • @dukeofcrydee bummer

  • @Roadstar1602 it would be a bit stupid if leia's mom was some blonde bimbo and darth vader was 4ft so he kind of had to, i thought they were all pretty good except for young anikin who was super annoying

  • @Roadstar1602 Natalie Portman can totally act well, she just... didn't. And Ewan McGregor wasn't terrible, but he could have done much better. I think that George Lucas did a great job of casting his actors (with the exception of Hayden Christensen), but did a crappy job of directing them for the new trilogy. I think he got lazy--maybe he thought it didn't matter if they acted well because the movies would reel in an audience no matter what.

  • @thefancyapple I thought Ewan McGregor was great. He and Ian McDermid were the exceptions to the rule. All of the rest were horrible. I don't know if Natalie can act or not. She was so horrible in the prequels that I deliberately avoided watching any of her movies after that. I did see Jumper with Hayden in it and his acting was better than in SW. And of course we all know Jimmy Smits can act, as can Sam Jackson when given the right role (not a wise old man). It makes me blame the director.

  • @Roadstar1602 one of THE big regrets i have with Lucas and casting was casting Sam Jackson as Mace Windu (and to a lesser degres Temura Morrison as Jango) after watching Larry Fishburne in the Matrix movies THAT was how Windu should have been played total ..mis casting....as for Jango i always pictured a british actor in scarred up make up like say Sean Bean

  • @thefancyapple Lucas only directed the first "Star Wars" of the original trilogy and handed those duties for "Empire" and "Jedi" to others. Too bad he didn't do that for the prequels...

  • @John6yt Yep and it's no coincidence Ep. V and VI are the best in the series. Lucas sucks as a director and somebody should have told him.

  • Comment removed

  • @Roadstar1602 I agree, the original cast had great chemistry. In the prequels, it seemed like Lucas picked the people he liked, not people who were right for their roles. The prequels did not have enough AMERICAN actors and human actors period. They needed someone like Harrison Ford to make the prequels more fun; although I don't know who could have fit that role today. And Leonardo DiCaprio or Heath Ledger (who turned down the part) would have made a much better Anakin.

  • this is so 70s

  • Much better than Shirley Feeny.

  • she gave the plans to chewbacca????

  • She's perfect!

  • She was obviously the best choice. She was the only actress that really had any presence

  • What the Blast?!?

  • Wow, her as Leia is so much better with all that anger. She's too calm right now.

  • In the films she dosn't bother me, but in this vid.... IM GOING CRAZY!!!!!

  • What's interesting about the dialog in this audition is that it explains "WHY" Princess Leia goes straight back to the Rebel Base, even though she and Han BOTH KNOW that they are being followed. She basically wants to lure the Death Star to a spot where they can attack it and hopefully destroy it. The final cut of the movie doesn't explain that point, and you're left wondering why the Princess would've been so stupid to go straight back (when knowing that she was being tracked).

  • Carrie sounds like Maggie thatcher!!

  • cool!

  • She had the perfect voice, and God was she young

  • i bet when they get the audition script they were reeeeally confused

  • too bad she's had some BAD cosmetic surgery in her later years

  • Check out 0:11. Her (Carrie Fisher's) breasts were so massive on her tiny frame that George Lucas ordered them taped down.

  • @faffaflunkie yes, better than a binary star system.

  • @Scrumpilump2000 Yes. Carrie was one (two?) of a kind.

  • @faffaflunkie :-D

  • it's the casting that made Star Wars work! Different cast and.. who knows??

  • I can see why George picked her. She can convey that she believes in something, true mark of a rebel leader.

  • Copper coffee pot?

  • She's excellent; a natural

  • its no wonder why Carrie got that role

  • she's so cute in this video.

  • I'd like to dock in her hangar bay if you know what I mean. :-p

  • @mawriz I'd drop a torpedo into her exhaust port.

  • @ThomasJAckerman That's impossible, even for a computer dude.

  • @mawriz according to Fisher's sarcastic account, her hangar bay was involved in her getting the part. :P

  • Loool incidentally, doesn't the beginning of the dialogue just sound so much like a porno?

  • Having famous parents helps you get a leg up !!!!

  • who wrote this dialogue? it's hideous. didn't they have the screenplay finalized by casting?

  • @gaozhi2007 - That'd be George Lucas.

  • @Guernicaman Yikes. You'd think that before he gave them the sides for auditions he would actually have a workable script instead of gobblety-gook. At least the movie doesn't sound like this.

  • @gaozhi2007 I recognize all of these lines. They sound like gibberish now because they are written like a run-on sentence. I think the lines were divided among the characters to break up the monotony.

  • Carrie Fisher was later offered the role of Sarah Connor in "Terminator" (the 1984 james cameron film). She turned it down.

  • Carrie owns it

    saludos.

  • Utinni! Damn, Carrie Fisher is cute. 1:31 for the most adorable smile. :D I'm so glad she got the part of Leia Organa.

  • Man, wasn't Carrie Fisher a real cutie back then?

  • Yeah, Harrison was a natural. Kurt Russel's audition was decent, but Harrison obviously nailed it.

  • When you see the other girls' auditions, you see immediately why they picked her. She's far and away the best.

  • I sure wish she tried to maintain her figure over the years.

  • @Daisagru You had plans? :P

  • man look at those fuckin titties

  • @iamradical Yeah, the Princess was stacked.

  • @rustytrombone1027 Damn straight. ( . )( . )

  • @iamradical Well said.

  • This trilogy just like the godfather is one of the times where casting was perfect...

  • It's amazing how relatively unknown people they were before they got cast.

  • <3 Best Actress

  • Harrison Ford was only there to read the lines to the actresses. He was so good at it that they decided to let him be in the film too.

  • @EmphaticItalic I thought this as well, but it's not true. See my comments in the Mark Hamill audition video. Ford was auditioning as well.

  • @dukeofcrydee that's not true, watch the star wars documentary that's with the dvd collection

  • @jbfarley Let me clarify. My response to @EmphaticItalic was meant to convey that Ford was not just a hired hand to help w/ actresses and then "discovered" to be good as he helped. He was asked to read with actors and actresses AND was actively being considered the entire time for Han. Lucas knew he was good from the get go, but wanted to work with more actors. After all his looking and testing, Ford just fit.

  • @dukeofcrydee they said themselves, he was just brought in to read lines, and that was it. but i'm glad they picked him at any rate, he's the best they could've gotten there

  • @jbfarley Right, but that wasn't the whole story. The Rinzler book, where LucasFilm gave him unprecedented access to their archives, expands on that documentary comment.

  • @EmphaticItalic using the words ''good'' and 'harrison ford'' in the same sentence is a bit weird isn't it?

  • @EmphaticItalic They had probably already had Ford audition and figured he was in and wanted to see him with others. There is a tape of his audition on here.

  • @tryithere Unfortunately the copy of the Ford audition on Youtube is just a small part, which is a shame.

  • she was fucking hot

  • @Hutcarlingos Indeed

  • Pretty Good! Wonderful to see this. Thank you so much for sharing. Unique.

  • sounds like george bush

  • Hard to believe that Carrie was only 19 years old when she did this audition. She speaks with amazing authority and integrity. I haven't seen this level of character in a young actress since.

  • @henriok You're right about that. She delivers the line with such sincerity that you BELIEVE THIS. She added more EDGE to leias character , but in this take she's more cerebral even REGAL being that she's a princess it makes sense. I believe later on she chose to add the edge because Han Solo was so strong she needed go match him as not to have her character get swallowed up. Also Leia is a princess who is a warrior so she NEEDS that edge.

  • Well, I'd say Maggie Gyllenhaal has it too but that's about it.
