The main thing I have against Solaris is setting up anything which is difficult unless you are very technical. When you install Linux on a machine it finds your printer NOW, and also your internet connection which Solaris don't do. In Solaris you have to be very familiar with scripts in order to do the work you need on a computer.

Silly people, this is the OS installation procedure from CD/DVD-ROM, not the OS boot. My boot time is 22 seconds from poweron to window system login screen. This shows the install with the text/console UI also! That said, Solaris install is not as user-friendly as modern Linuxen, like Ubuntu. However, that ignores why you would want to use Sol10. We have a server with 28TB of zfs (~RAID6) streaming 150+ streams of video simultaneously in 12U of rack space;doesn't even break a sweat. Be serious!

They are server features used for enterprise system administrators. We can't compare Mac with Opensolaris. Actually both mac os x & opensolaris shared the same architecture. It's UNIX. Although mac was designed for end user in mind, solaris is on server. I can consider an advanced operating system that can scale up & highly configurable from pdas to pc to mainframe to supercomputers and linux has that edge. Opensolaris is heading that desktop direction. I bet if you can high customize your mac! Admittedly...Mac is very nice for end users but doesn't be consider advanced...its just user friendly
