@crimbob69 u might also want to check out the Native Instruments Kontrol X1, which is mapped for Traktor and I believe there is a mapping for Serato as well...
@crimbob69 yes you can, check Novation's site, there are a lot of different mappings for them that will allow you to do all kinds of stuff beyond what they are pre-programmed for.
@DubSpot i figured it out. i just assigned the loop rolls in midi for the shift layers. also do you have problems with the non usb connected dicer going dark on u? been happening to me quite a bit.
@whiteballoonsin1978 agreed, the visual feedback is really helpful, especially that it's backlit for dark clubs. I hate trying to find certain buttons on a mixer in dark clubs and using my phone for a flashlight etc.
I think this was a pretty close collaboration between Novation/Serato in developing this.
To me the most interesting thing about this isn't the loop roll stuff -- it's that this thing can communicate bi-directionally with Serato.
The controller "knows" which cue points are active for a track, which to my knowledge can't currently be done with another controller because Serato doesn't currently send that data out.
DJ Tech allows the DJ to worry about other things. So if he is using auto-beat matching then he better have all of his songs key-matched and arranged in a musically appealing manner, he better also be chopping it up and effecting the audio, and optimally he will have edited and remixed the songs he is playing as well.
I think it is much easier to send a youtube comment than it is to DJ in the 21st century.
@djdavvermusic some things get easier but without artistic talent people still won't sound good. I think of the technology as a way to do cool new things. I'm sure a lot of bands and acoustic player think DJing requires no talent too. And yes, they are sweet.
these obvioulsy make djing easier but if you dont have a good ear for what works etc they wont do much for you!

how can i get it so that when the loop roll releases its from where the loop roll sample is instead of where it would be without the roll?
hiphopiscool 1 year ago
@hiphopiscool the other loop mode releases that way, I'll have to look into the editor to see if it can do what you want.

Will this work with my Idj3?
ace101guy 1 year ago
@ace101guy do you use the Idj3 with control cds running Serato? If so then it should work.
DubSpot 1 year ago
i like the idea of serato having something just for their product, but i like the traktor x1.
maddetox 1 year ago
whiteballoons, you get that loop roll effect by pressing control alt 1-5. the midi is just assigned the send the same signal that combo does.

@DubSpot
yeah true, you still need some artistic talent to do stuff like this.
but i still think some things are over done like the Vestax VCI 300's auto beat-match button.
