He is one of my all time favorite actors! No, actually I think he is my all time favorite! I don't agree with him having a bad voice at all! I rather like it! He is an amazing, handsome man!
I saw a few early talkies with John Gilbert on TCM & thought that he did a great job. All this talk about his career ruined by his voice is nonsense. He was done in by Mayer who hated his guts because Gilbert decked him when he called Garbo a whore or something to that effect.....
Thanks for posting this! I think I've found a venue for a question of mine, too. My mother was born in 1928 in Santa Monica, CA. When she was just a few days old, she was taken from the hospital to be in a film starring John Gilbert (my grandfather could never remember, unfortunately, who the female star was, or the name of the picture). Gilbert's daughter told me she thought the film might be "Redemption." Anyone else have any ideas what film would have had a baby??
today, starting at 7am est, TCM will begin a tribute for Mr. Gilbert that will last until 6am tomorrow. He is being honored during their yearly 'Summer Under The Stars'. There are a couple of his movies, being shown, i've yet had the pleasure to see. To see him in true acting form and voice, see 'Downstairs' at 6:30pm est. He wrote the story, as well. He is wonderful as the 'cad'.
This is beautiful - well done!! Fantastic photos and lovely music. I really enjoyed it - thanks for sharing memories of a great star who deserves to be better remembered!
@BGBTaylor Thank you! Yours comments are much appreciated. You are welcome to browse through my selection of nostalgic Hollywood 'Movie Legends' tributes.
Greta Garbo and John Glbert have formed one of the most beautiful couple of cinema between the years 20 and 30!! He was madly in love with the divine.
Nostalgic and royal music that accompanies the video!
