57601 is a stalker, simply put. On every railtour I go to see near enough, its on the rear, even here I was meant to see it dead on the back of 50s, but it looks like the 47's body wasnt the only thing it snatched today, cheers!
Im more half and half with Sheds to be honest. They can pull a mean 200 odd tons down the line, fast, but they replaced hellfire engines such as 37s, 47s, 56s etc, and they stalk you too. Cheers Mike!
Only on Sundays, as there is a lot more freight through Wigan on a Sunday afternoon than on a Saturday. It would be only Freightliner ballast and stuff, not Freightliner Containers if you know what I mean, as I only learnt the other week that they are actually two totally different companies, so you would only get sheds :/
Hard luck for seeing that flipping red pest instead of the two 50's (at least it's good to see a Regional Railways liveried coach back on NR metals), but nice to get some Freightliner 66 action all the same. 5*
Half and half Dave, the 50s and stock were taken to Crewe LNWR immediately after the tour for servicing. The stock was kept in Crewe, where the 50s were to convoy up to Carnforth, with 57601 hitching a ride on the REAR (dead). But it looks like 57601 dragged the 50s (dead) behind that coach (for some odd reason) to Longsight, before heading off to Carnforth. I dont know to be honest, but it wasted 2 hours of my life going to see one of the biggest stalkers in railway history.
Thanks for clearing that up Wooly. I made that sort of mistake on Bank Holiday Monday at Crewe in May; saw what looked like a 47's roof behind a 153, but to my horror on close inspection, it was 57601. I ended up having to phott and video her, along with 40145 and 45407, plus 37401 and 37417 amongst other things. Time to put 'Red Ronnie' (or Sheila) out of it's misery methinks?
Haha! Everyone makes mistakes Dave, including the re-engineer of 57601 who should really have been tied to the front for a days worth of its stalking journeys!!!

I already have :p

not bad acceleration - almost as fast as a class 56!
grannyjone 2 years ago
I wouldnt take it that far! lol

Maybe I was exaggurating somewhat.
I used to watch 56's on the Stanlow tanker empties. There was nothing that could pull away from a red signal as fast as a class 56.
grannyjone 2 years ago
That is a red signal that had just changed to yellow/green - obviously - Not a red signal that would suggest a spad

It was strange to see this, but I still havent found out exactly what happened yet. Cheers Dave!

I might be wrong, but I would guess that the two 50's would've probably gone to the Crewe LNWR depot or something, and possibly the stock as well.
