I saw on dorjeshugden[dot]com that the 5th dalai lama accepts ds as an enlightened being and for soo many generations the lineage has relied upon ds up until just recently. So what has changed? Surely an enlightened being doesn't turn their back so easily?
Shugden practitioners also seize on the actions of Tibetans in exile communities. The Tibetans fervent belief in His Holiness is evident. Because of this, those who are less than perfect may be a bit overzealous in communicating the Dalai Lama's vision to others in their own community. This overzealous reaction is not incited by the Dalai Lama, nor condoned by him. He has made his position clear as I have outlined here. To distort this is further cause for negative results to appear.
What Shugden practitioners fail to realize is that the Dharma always helps, never harms. All other deity practices (excluding certain protectors who are unwillingly bound to the Dharma) can not harm. Shugden falls outside this catagory because those who have the initiation and break the commitment receive harm. I have seen this myself with my own eyes
Furthermore, His Holiness has asked that any person who wishes to do that practice not come to his teachings & empowerments and not ask to be ordained by him as a monk or nun.

You are free to believe the Dalai Lama is a Buddha if you wish, but consider, first the Dalai Lama acknowledged Shugden as an embodiment of Manjushri, then he changed his mind, declaring Shugden to be an evil spirit. Whichever is the case, it is clear the Dalai Lama was mistaken at some point with regards to Shugden's identity. How could an enlightened being either mistake a sprit for another enlightened being, or vice-versa? Furthermore, threatening helfire is not a very logical argument.
Strong language is needed in this case to humble the outrageous claims being made by Shugden practitioners, principally of NKT, Gen Gyatso's group. They are painting the Dalai Lama black when it is they themselves who don that color with their condemnations.
The Dalai Lama has not "banned" the practice of Shugden, he has merely prohibited the image and the practise from the monasteries of Drepung, Ganden & Sera, where the Dalai Lama is considered the spiritual authority by the monks the monks.

It's difficult to deny a theory for which there has been no evidence presented. Actually, it's not necessary to deny. I'm searching ver hard to find any evidence that the Dalai Lama has ever ordered any violence of any kind, or evidence that he even banned the worship of Dorje Shugden. I can't find any!
