  • Nice animation. The only problem I have is when the carnivores eat the other dinos, it just looks unatural when they pull meat from the carcuses. That's just me though.

  • Why is there snow in a tropical prehistoric forest? O.o

  • no voice ?are you kidding ?

  • Fake!

  • @rlinfinity Gay.

  • @rlinfinity noooo really

  • i thought it had sound

  • @ronaldo89391 It does. This video just doesn't owo

  • series was awesome! highly recommended for Dino- lovers of all ages! =D

  • i love dinosaur yeah thanks for uploading

  • I love this program but still the animation isn't as good as Walking with Dinosaurs!

  • I am getting sick of spinosaurus. Spinosaurus this, spinosaurus that. I`ve had a fucking nough of spinosaurus. The fight was laughable, (carharodontosaurus would probably win) and the movement was poor. daspletosaurus was to skinny, chasmosaurs were only females in it, centrosaurus thing looked like a big rip off of march of the dinosaurs. Mapusaurus is in an upcoming episode and is way over done, and should have been tyrannotitan. otherwise its great!

  • The animation on this is not up to scratch but you have to admit this has alot more intresting and evidence to the excistance of the dinosaurs tthan WWD i mean they found a liopuredon which was 80 feet long??? I dont think so....

  • The animations are pretty good.

I also like when the "How we know this" things pop up on the screen and give a bunch of evidence.

  • The Allosaurus looks REALLY good in this.

    Poor Camptosaurus though :D

  • i think the animation is really great..... and it was done in a short amount of time....

  • I saw the first episode and completely agree with other posters here. The dinosaur movement is poor. I expected so much more from the trailer and the BBC in general.

  • I love Dinosaurs but thiseries is poor. Why do animators always leave the floor flat? It always gives it away. WWD used of real landscapes as did JP. Has the BBC not learned from its own success. Plus the dinosaurs move like they have no joints in their bones.

  • @TheArtdecovampire the dinosaurs themselves look good but they move like their bones are glued together.

  • SPINOSAURUS !

  • 0:02 DAWWWWWWWW

  • Planet Dinosaur BB1 - Sept 14th ~ 8:30pm (6 Episodes) :)))))

  • If you like dinosaurs, check out Primal Carnage. It's a multiplayer shooter with dinosaurs and you can also play as the dinosaurs.

  • i love it :)

  • Hasn't Jurassic Park and Walking with dinosaurs that you could blend CGI and Live action seemlessly.

  • only cgi?!

  • Carnotaurus+Plesiosaurus = a buy from me when the DvD comes out!

  • @sandro108 It's a majungatholus no carnotaurus!

  • @hentesgyik95 Majungatholus is now a nomen dubium, Majungasaurus is the valid taxon. Sorry for being a smarty pants :D

Other Theropod: LOL You can't fight. Your bite force is crap and your claws don't do much damage. Go catch some minnows or something.

    Spinosaur: *catches huge sawfish*

    Other Theropod: .....

  • hmm.. I'm very excited and all but am I the only one who thinks that a lot of the shots that look complete don't look AS GOOD as walking with dinosaurs? :/ We'll have to wait and see

  • @bobbiwib Yes, but keep in mind WWD had a hugeass budget. ;)

  • Planet Dinosaur or Dinosaur Revolution?

I must say that I look forward to both shows, but I think you should be careful saying that this is better than Revolution. Dinosaur Revolution is about telling compelling stories in the prehistoric era that are heavily rooted in science, with sparse narration. Planet Dinosaur seems more like an upgraded version of Walking with Dinosaurs.

It's not just about the technology, there's also emotion and storytelling to Revolution.

  • @TheNile182 what such as a sauropod getting high on magic mushrooms or T rex having sumo showdowns. i have to say it does look quite entertaining

  • wow this looks really great! I can't wait for it to come on! Only problem is... I don't have a 3d tv. Just a normal flat screen.

  • @FabBluewho it's just 2d at first I think - 3d version's not out 'til next year

  • @dinoscerous oh thanks for telling me! I was really disapointed at first! :-)

  • I do wish they'd release some trailers to this now, it's not long till it screens in the UK. All this great footage, you gotta show it off! If you got it, flaunt it;)

  • all over my face

  • Well it's clear from this video that many of the digital environments here are a cut above. I particularly like the clip with the ornithopods walking through the forest. March of the Dinos was a decent effort, in some respects it was highly impressive, but tended to be hit and miss in places.

They made some beginner errors on dinosaurs like Troodon. How many years is it and they're still doing a variation on Jurassic Park 'raptors', albeit with feathers.

  • It really depends on the quality of the environments. I believe March of the Dinosaurs was all or mostly CG environments. They can be pretty bland compared to live plates when the background is just made up of cloned trees.

What's impressive in this clip is how much that opens things up for interaction between the characters and the environment. Interactive lighting, dust and fluid simulation

  • @Anteater22

Indeed, March with Dinosaurs had what I thought were some nicely designed and rigged dinosaurs (with a hint of a JP vibe to them), but environments let it down. I actually thought that the animals from March rendered into a some real world backgrops would look spectacular. Still, I think PD has much better environments, course it's hard to compete with reality but there are the obvious advantages of being able to integrate the dinosaurs a lot better, fly the camera around etc.

  • I think the big difference here is that Planet Dinosaur has all CG environments, which is ambitious, but the possibilities it opens up are astonishing if done right. It's an Avatar like approach and it is the future IMO. Ultimately though, be it DR or PD, the animation is the key, the movement makes or breaks it. Look at the way the Diplodocus fat wobbles about when he walks in WWD, it stands the test of time and certainly hope PD and DR do as well.

  • I had been more exited for Reign of the Dinosaurs(Dinosaur Revolution), because they have David Krentz. But the lighting and rendering in these clips is just vastly superior. Dinosaur Revolution will probably be better than average, but unfortunately it's still Discovery Channel.

  • This looks amazing. Best Dino show for many many years by the looks of things.

  • Look far superior to Dinosaur revolution (what a dumb name) in very sense. Not even a chance they could compare.

  • Could someone tell me what the bird-like dinosaur at 0:30 is? A Gigantoraptor maybe?

  • Is this the same thing as dinosaur revolution,or is it something comeing on the same month?

  • @MaxterandKiwiKing No, Planet Dinosaur and Dinosaur revolution are not the same thing - Planet Dinosaur is a brand new BBC production with a very fresh approach to the visuals and storytelling - it's beautifully made, with groundbreaking full CG environments... No hallucinating Sauropods though, I'm afraid...

  • Awesome, so when does this air on BBC? I hear in September, but when?

  • @superman1749 14th of September, 8.30, BBCone. Trailers should be starting next week.

  • @5Magenta How did you find out about that?

  • @TheNile182 I'm a very proud parent... If you get my drift.

  • @5Magenta Sorry, but you have to be a bit more specific, unless it's a secret.

  • @TheNile182 Yeah it's a massive secret! No, not really - I worked on it for 18 months. Trust me, the finished series is really fantastic.

  • @5Magenta So, you've been working on this series?

    Cool

  • I think when the episodes are finally shown, it will look amazing.

  • This show, while promising, the dinos don't look as grand as I expected; Discovery's DR on the other hand, is hauntingly beautiful (only complaint is that a lot of the critters might be exaggerated with each artist's own style).

  • Wow, Dinosaur Revolution vs Planet Dinosaur.

I can't help but say BBC's documentary has far superior CGI and animation.

But here's the problem, notice that BBC's is using totally CGI backgrounds.

That's cool and all, but if WwD has taught us anything, it's better to use the real life backgrounds.

  • @APuzzledMind i dunno, I like having more of an action camera kinda thing. Can't do that witha real background, too hard for the CG

  • @dinoscerous You're right - The problem with live back plates (like Dinosaur revolution) is that the camera is very static - A style that makes a lot of dinosaur show look very similar. Because Planet DInosaur uses completely CG backgrounds, the camera work and editing can be much more fresh, fast-paced and edgy. A very new apporach for this sort of show...

  • I have known about this coming out for nearly a year. So good to see it coming so close :)

  • Ooh!! Will it air on Discovery? And when? I SO want to see this!!!

  • YEAH! Ouranosaurus, Majungatholus,Sarcosuchus,Oviraptor,Spinosaurus,Rugops,Quetzalcoatlus,Allosaurus,Stegosaurus

  • This looks awesome, finally a cotender to take the crown of greatest dino documentary off Walking with Dinosaurs?

  • @CaptainJackSparrow26 It's been made by some of the same team who did Walking With and my sources reveal that it's looking fantastic. Look out for an Autumn broadcast...

  • @5Magenta Well I am looking forward to it big time. The render quality is superb. To me this sounds better than Reign of the Dinosaurs because from what I"ve read that has talking heads which I *hate* with a passion in dino docs, it takes you completely out of the moment, and well, everyone knows you have talking heads when you can't afford to show what you are talking about. So to that end this looks fantastic, I just wish I had a 3D TV!

  • @CaptainJackSparrow26 Yes - No talking heads. We've done something much more interesting instead... Glad you're excited, Cap'n.

  • FUCK YEAR Dinosaurs!

  • This is done by Jellyfish Pictures from London.

  • This is nothing. America's "Reign of the Dinosaurs" will not be outdoed by those Cockneys' "documentary."

  • So cool

  • looking good!

Some of the scenes looked photo-real!

  • Somehow, Walking With Dinosaurs still looks better! BBC can't top a work over 10 years old, their own work?

  • @5aq

I'm sure this is pixar's work believe it or not.

Or is that Reign of the Dinosaurs?

  • @blotsafun

It says BBC in the description, so I followed that.

  • @5aq

it says FOR the BBC channel.

We could just google who did the animations.

  • @blotsafun This is nothing like OUR documentary. I think the British want to prove that they "think" they can make better dinosaur documentaries than we do. But our "Reign of the Dinosaurs" will bury their faces in disgrace. We'll win this Cold War of dinosaurs and take dethrone "Walking with Dinosaurs" as the best dinosaur documentary ever. AMERICA WILL PREVAIL! XD

  • @krajax

    lol

Reign does look better I have to say.

I mean, PIXAR made the damn thing so. lol

  • @blotsafun

Actually it doesn't look like Pixar or Disney are involved with Reign of the dinosaurs:

    pixarblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/first-look-at-reign-of-dinosaurs.html

People from those companies may have had some involvement, but it seems Discovery are latching on to that as a major selling point to boost excitement for their show and in doing so are blowing it slightly out of proportion. I'll reserve judgement until I see more than one out of context still.

  • @ChrisSeed

ah... well that drops my excitement for the series... lol

still excited from how badass it looks though.

  • @krajax Haha Walking With Dinosaurs is the Gandalf/Yoda/Dumbledore/Godfather of Dinosaur documentaries. Whereas BOTH the newer non-walking with dinosaurs makers associated stuff will probably be good but nothing like as good as WWD, its too late for either of them to try and backlash against the father that sired them. Lets face it - Walking With Dinosaurs is a class apart.

  • what is this from?

  • @5aq Its something about the 90's ;) lol

  • Ahem...

    ...HOLY MOLY THAT LOOKS AWESOME!

  • now THIS is what jurasic park 3 should be like... why not?, was it to expensive?, was it to good?, was it a waste of time since the writer hasn't made a decent movie in years?!?!... sorry... impresive work, man, just impresive

  • Where did you get this footage?

  • It may be just the quality of the video, but I like the dusty look of that oviraptorosaur and its feathers at 0:29. I am eagerly waiting to see how this production will turn out.

  • Looks AMAZING. :)

  • A new dinosaur show from the BBC? Awesome!

  • @FilthyVirus And you've based that opinion on clips of unfinished leaked footage?
