I don't think McEwan always uses said word out of place. When he describes Lord Parmenter in The Child in Time as 'reptilian', the verbal picture clicks exactly into place.
why does ian use the word reptilian in so much of his writing? his use of the word always seems out of place and ill fitting and reads like he does it for the sake of it, \as though he must use the word somewhere in his writing. got any ideas??
