The Batak uprising happened because of Russian spies. Russia wanted to destroy Ottoman Empire so it started to use the christian minorities. It encouraged the christians to revolt and promised help and independance.
It gave weapons and spread nationalism.
In 1876 Some villages in Batak region started to attack the muslim villages, they killed everybody, after this other muslims revenged themselves and massacred bulg villages. That was bad but it didnt happen without a reason.
I know most bulgarians are very angry about what truks did in the balkans but hey its life it could've been worse! If it were not turks other human force could've occupied bulgaria, so either way bulgaria would've been under someone's control because its the survival of the fittest and bulgaria and the balkans were much weak against the ottomans. In the war of 1877-1878 Russia and bulgarians together made a genocide to Turks of Bulgaria.
BEfore 1877 ( 1,5 million Turks were living in Bulgaria)
In 1881 after the war ( only 0,7 million were in bulgaria)
260.000 Turks died ( not soldiers, women, children)
and 550.000 fled to Anatolia while their houses were burned

Ottoman empire was the most tolerant empire all religions and languages survided 500 years of ottoman rule. They did not survive because of their own power they survived because Ottoman gave complete freedom. in language culture and religion.

they started to marry after 1580 and then devshirme stopped,
jann were few and almost all lived in Istanbul not in Bulgaria,

The Batak uprising happened because of Russian spies. Russia wanted to destroy Ottoman Empire so it started to use the christian minorities. It encouraged the christians to revolt and promised help and independance.
It gave weapons and spread nationalism.
In 1876 Some villages in Batak region started to attack the muslim villages, they killed everybody, after this other muslims revenged themselves and massacred bulg villages. That was bad but it didnt happen without a reason.

I know most bulgarians are very angry about what truks did in the balkans but hey its life it could've been worse! If it were not turks other human force could've occupied bulgaria, so either way bulgaria would've been under someone's control because its the survival of the fittest and bulgaria and the balkans were much weak against the ottomans. Nothing to hate or get angry about, its just human nature to like to control and subdue something/someone weak/weaker. peace!
