My mother is a model and she was the most unpopular girl at her high school...so just because a girl is good looking it doesn't automatically mean that she will be popular at all.
Besides, Bella is actually meant to be average looking in the books, probably about a solid 6 out of 10, maybe a 7 on a really good day. Thus Bella's looks aren't supposed to have anything at all to do with how she is perceived by anyone. In fact, even Edward is only hot for her because of how her blood smells.
The whole vampire werewolf rivalry is awsome ( I know that's in new moon) but honestly Bella is so annoying I want to see some monster rip her head off. And so much fake ass romance is shoved in this shit could hav been good but it was turned into a Porno to make ugly girls dream off male models sweeping them off their feet any twighlight fan feel free to argue agienst me.
I hate twighlight most dumb teen girl movies don't bug me becuase their stories are overdone and retarded. Twighlight has alot of potential I like the Cullins and the wolf pack despite how they were nothing like the mythical creatures they represented. But I hate Bella so much she is ugly and such a terrible actor this movie would automatically be better if Bella was a hot girl who could at least try to act.
I am a huge fan of the books, and therefore hate the movies. The books are good, and the movies just go and destroy the great moments are feel of it. Oh well though. At least they have good soundtracks
I hate the whole concept of Twilight. It completely ruins the ENTIRE concept of vampires. That being said, my argument is petty and closed minded, so I'll just stop there.
Me personally, I didn't hate the movie per se, but I did not like it either. Now, I didn't dislike it for the kind of movie it is, but rather for the movie itself. I'm a huge fan of werewolf/vampire mythology, but the movie itself was so poorly developed. The story could have been depicted well, but you cannot make a good movie with a bad script, and that what this movie was -- a bad script with bad actors.
Theres actually been cases where girls will shack you (this actually happened!) for not liking the series. I personally hate the series and the fans (Not all, but the extreme serious business fans) play a part in why I hate the series. I watch the first 2 movies to see what the big appeal is and nearly fell asleep out of boredom. After awhile I started doing other things (going to the bathroom, fixing a snack) not caring rather I'm missing importants parts of the movie or notXD
The reason I have issues with this movie, as a woman, is almost entirely circumscribed by the fact that Kristin Bell has exactly one facial expression, and it's the one the rest of us only make right before the brownies hit the bowl (if you catch my drift). You can only look like you're concentrating really hard on nothing for so long before other people start asking you if you have to use the restroom out of genuine concern for your health.
Also on the topic of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.. I dunno, I actually quite liked the book. I was surprised Rawling had the balls (metaphorically) to kill off who she did, but wasn't shocked by there being deaths as I knew it was coming. Insofar as the films go.. I felt that 4-6 were weak because they condensed the story too much. Hence you had Fleur and Bill in 7 confusing people who hadn't read the book. They shouldn't have skimped on subplots in the films before now.
Personally, the more I saw about Twilight either by commercials or what I'd heard from people made this feel like it suffered from Hype Backlash, or whatever the Trope is called. It made me both uninterested and got to the point where I couldn't stand hearing about it. Harry Potter movies got me to WANT to read the books which I hadn't before then. This felt like your average pulp romance with vampires as the backdrop, and while I'm a romantic I hate those things so this film just turned me off.
I understand what you guys are sayin about targeted audience and for u to enjoy it u have to put yourself in the perspective of the target audience. But good movies regardless of whether they have a target audienece or not should at least have some appeal and relation to people outside of the box. Look at Harry Potter, I hate the potter books, films but they do appeal to a broad audience. If a film only appeals to 1 specific audience then its not even worth watchin in my opinion.
Twilight was an okay movie. New Moon was good. Eclipse is even better. Breaking Dawn is going to be awesome. As for Harry Potter: They did not know where the Horcruxes were, let alone what they were, so, yes, they had to travel and camp all over Britain to avoid the Death Eaters. The light that went into Ron was the same color as the light of a Portkey, so it making him Apparate right where Harry and Hermione were made sense. And it could be possible for Ron to imitate Parseltongue.
I felt Twilight was barely passable, New Moon sucked, and Eclipse was the best, but that says little. I am still mad though, for Twilight killed popular culture. It infected near every oz of media with vampire topics and many rushed vampires movies were made that sucked and Twilight alone was hardly a vampire movie! The last GREAT vampire movie was Let the Right One In; I know CM dislikes horror movies, but if he can review Twilight, I think he can find plenty of things to discuss in LTROI.
This movie is retarded and based on a retarded book. There is nothing even remotely "ok" about it. A stupid girl with no personality finds true love (for no reason) in an abusive, distant and sparkly vegetarian vampire. How can this shit be "ok"? It's not.
And saying that The Deathly Hallows is "fucking garbage" without explaining why is not a very smart move. I thought it was a brilliant book, where things were expained well.
@harrymcfly56 I will give it to you. Deathly Hallows is bunch of shitty camping, bad cameos, final battle sucks, all character deaths are pointless. And all the fucking plotholes (Ron speaking Parseltongue? WTF!)
@Curseco I would agree with the camping, exept for the fact that the camping had dialouge and development. The cameos, which ones? The final battle was epic, all character deaths were heartbreaking, and Ron speaking Parseltougue, just going by the movie, it really doesn't seem that hard, I can make that sound. And that is why Deathly Hallows is a masterpiece.
@harrymcfly56 You can't learn Parseltongue! Otherwise wouldn't Hogwarts or the Ministry be teaching lessons, one word at a time if it were that easy? Cameos and random stuff: Oliver Wood carrying dead Colin Creevey, Buckbeack attacks giants, Harry defeating Voldemort with the frickin Expelliarmus and worst of all, CRABBE destroys a Horcrux
Okay that wasn't the worst. The worst was the nervous system breaking Epilogue. I mean, Lily Luna Potter? Albus Severus? What's next, Dobby Hedwig Potter?
@Curseco Of course you can't learn Parseltongue, but you can imitate it. The cameos were just cameos, she wanted to show that everyone was there, cameos don't make something better or worse. And Harry didn't kill Voldemort with EXpelliarmus, Voldemorts Avada Kedavra curse rebounded off Harry because it wouldn't kill it's true master. The epilouge, yeah it was a little chessy, but don't tell me you just wanted more bad stuff to happen to Harry.
@harrymcfly56 But the cameos were just improperly wrote in the battle, they served no purpose. How about the way Rowling ruined Dumbledore? Making him deceiving and twisted, she ruined the illusion of the great and powerful sage everyone loved.
And the Deluminator stuff was just weird covered with weird. (The light going in the broom shed, then inside Ron, then realising where to Apparate)
I don't want Harry to have a bad life, but I don't want to see him as an old familyman either. :D
@Curseco The cameos didn't have a purpose sure, but it was nice to see them again. Rowling didn't ruin dumbledore, dumbledore knew that Harry would be able to come back, that's why he left him the ressurection stone, and told him it would only open when he was prepared for death. The Deluminator stuff, yeah it was weird, but J.K. needed to get Ron back to the others, and it's better than, "I just found you." And Harry may have a family, but he's an auror, so he still fights dark wizards.
@harrymcfly56 Allright, let's stop this argument. Let me tell what I DID like so you don't think me as a total douche :] I liked Snapes past and death, the Death Eaters being a real threat, Godrics Hollow and Gringotts. I love the books, DH just wasn't that good to me.
@Curseco Thank you, I love all the books too, My favorite is Goblet of fire, and my least favorite is half blood prince. And yeah, this book did have a few plotholes, but all the books did, and I don't think that's enough to ruin it.
I thought this film was on the low side of gud. The second was the low side of bullshit and the third was fantastic. Btw, Harry Potter i think is much better than this though, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is my favourite book of the series and I cannot WAIT for the Part 1 and Part 2 movies!
I'm a 14 year old girl and I hated this movie. It was so boring. I came out of the cinema and my friends was raving about how awesome it was and I was like "No. It sucked."
But I loved Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! To each his own, I guess :)
@fictitiousfruitcake I'm an 18 girl, I hate the whole Twilight saga and I STILL love Deathly Hallows. Despite the fact that it was a blood bath and the epilogue sucked! But besdies that I really like it.
I call bullshit on the "not part of the target audience" excuse. No matter who the target audience is, it's no excuse for a crappy movie (or book). At their core, all people will like something even if it's outside of a genre that they normally like.
@confusedmatthew lol dude you are so right this movie... it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either and yes I hate it because of what kind of movie it is more so but the acting was crap the writing was crap the cinamtography was crap I think even for a tean age girl audiance it could have been alot better it wasn't down right horrible but it wasn't good. Harry potter is alot more ingageing flim wise

@amtriplekkk wow then you really do need help if you consider this talking. oh and now I know you're full of shit, so Transformers revenge of the fallen, jumper and a bunch of other crap is better then Lion King, you're a fucking idiot with absolutely horrible taste. you must be the same audience that buys fucking justin beiber albums and is the target market for shit like this.
@amtriplekkk you do realize that we are writing to each other and not actually talking, whens the last time you tried that, you do realize that phones were once used for speaking into and not just texting. Lion King for the win, im still waiting for that list, ten movies which came out in the last 5 years which are better then Lion king, go.
Twilight is garbage. I makes me sick. My girlfriend made me watch it and it bored me to the point where I would rather watch Terminator Salvation (another movie in which I can't stand) than ever watch this film.
You guys touched on a lot of good points. I must say I agree that it wasnt that bad.....low end of ok. But its more the hype surrounding Edward I hate, as well as the fact that New Moon was essentially the same as Twilight but with Jacob instead. New Moon, I believe, it actually one of the worst movies ever made. Twilight wasnt that bad.
I can watch it a few times. I keep myself awake by telling myself theres going to be a fight scene at the end. That part was pretty cool. Thats what the new one lakes. A good fight.
Twice after first time to show friends, i think the cinematics where pretty cool, the enviroment.
On the issue if it's similar to harry potter or not, you're wrong. Bella isn't comfortable with her self, wish he had beter parents and böah blah, Harry got real family issues and then the teenage hormone dreaming come true in both cases with sci/fi. It's the same shit, just that Harry potter got a better and less dull story line.
I worked at Borders when this movie came out, and it actually did encourage people to read these books. I remember a huge teen age girl base coming in to buy them all up.
@TheCh1992 he didn't say he liked it he just said it wasn't terrible. So you think if someone thinks Twilight is not terrible they think it's good??? Your the retard.

Matthew, on this movies own merits, it was not a good movie. I did not enjoy the book, neither did i like the movie. here are some of the reasons I fucking HATED this film. The dialouge is drawn out and dead, the characters are also drawn out and lifeless, the movie always make you want more FOR EXAMPLE: more logic, better plot, better writing, and less BULLCRAP
I hate how some movies should and can be R but choose to be the safe and go PG-13. Then when it comes out on DVD, there's two versions, the R/Unrated and the PG-13 versions. Come on.
It's for 11 girls. Grrr.... It is so stupid. They have glitter skin? What the fuck? I mean, really? I understand that you want to make you own vampire, but come on!! It's so ridiculous.
Deathly Hallows was awesome man. I can't imagine any criticism of this book which I wouldn't expect in th rest. In which case, I'd wonder why any critic was a fan in the first place.
yeahh i am like in love with twilight but now looking back i can admit the movie is kinda bad but the books are AMAZING! but if a movie was about humanity it would be for everyone! star trek completely sucked i only saw it cause of chris pine! but everyone hated twilight because the book is like the best book ever written and the movie kinda like ruined the book....tihs is coming from a 14 year old girl dont forget! if u read the books its really different and distinct!
I read the first book. It was one of the worst novels ever written, and if you think it was the best, you bring shame to Emily Dickinson, Jane Austen, and other female authors worthy of reverence. Your ignorance makes me sick with anger.
@beachxbabe127 no sorry but the writing in twilight is about as good as my hand paintings when i was five. if you're in to vampires and all that, you should read, The Southern Vampire Mysteries. its a realistic take on a world where all the mystical creatures you here about are real, since you're fourteen I would wait until you're a little older cause the book series is very realistic, it has sex, drugs and everything. the HBO series True Blood is based on them.
on regards with the 7th harry potter book, i loved it, but it did feel like she just had a storyline vomit on us and threw all what was happening at once, while trying to make it exciting by killing off alot of minor characters
the thing with the sparkle thing, she tweaked it to make the reasons for them to be in school so that bella and edward will meet, cause they live in that predominately cloudy enviroment, where it doesnt matter if its cloudy or not they will still die due to the uv rays, and she just said well they dont go in the sun cause they sparkle, it is a dumb concept, she shouldve maybe borrowed concepts from the blade series if anything
i also agree to an extent about the 7th harry potter book, except for the last couple of chapters the rest of it was as if jk rowling was just sticking her middle finger up at us from the top of a pile of her money .
i'm a 17 year old girl and at first i refused to watch the film purely becuase my younger sister read the books and she explained them to me and just on the vampire perspective i hated it. but them i watched it so that i couldnt be criticised for not watching it and then dissing it. but i hated it all the way through. vampires dont, never have never will Sparkle in sunlight, they die its one of the most fundemental aspects of a vampire! where the hell did you author get the sparkle idea?
originality is one thing but you dont warp a concept that is hundreds of years old. the sparkle concept is rediculous even if it was considered 'original'
no bro, i dont get why i shouldnt enjoy book 7. i dont get how it was frustrating, annoying, & pointless in the middle. in fact i'd go as far to say its my favorite. then again were humans, we like/dislike different things. i'd like to hear why you dont care for the book.
It's not even because I hate the type of movie, but the fact that the two main actors epicly failed to even portray their roles. Kristen Stewart was emotionless througout the whole movie, which was the same for Pattenson. Maybe the movie would've been a lot better if the actors were actually more emotional and passionate. And, yes, it's the movie, not the book. Because the book was great.
please stay on topic...all you guys do is stray from topic to topic, being distracted by tangents like a crow is attracted to shiny objects (harry potter, last samurai)
i really liked the star wars prequel and matrix reviews....please stick to more coherent formats like that
Coming back to this to watch it again. I really enjoyed this review. You guys are able to go past the reputation this film had and give it a rating based on its merits.
Okay, i take back my last statement, go read the book guys...go and feel the terrible gnawing pain that it feeds into you. For you to say that Harry Potter 7 was shit and to say that this was okay is so FUCKED UP I want to go over to kill someone, the literal insanity that that statement makes is crazy, AT NO POINT DOES ANYTHING MAKE SENSE IN THIS MOVIE! Isabella is a Whiney little bitch who moans on and on about how she loves Edward and thats it, rinse, recyle and reuse again and again. SHIT!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Y'know, I'm not gonna say go read the books, because I'm not that heartless. But seriously CM, OK? OKAY!!!! There was absoultely no build-up in the romance, its Isabella(and i'll call the bitch that till the day I die!)see's Edward and goes all gooey immediately and as soon as Edward sniffs Isabella he wants to either hump the hell out of her or eat her alive (make what you will of that statement) it's just SHIT and TOTAL SHIT.
"...they weren't very confident in the writing..."
Its a problem with the source material actually, the books are horrifyingly bad. I know CM thinks the Deathly Hallows was really bad but the Twilight books are worse, much much worse. And the writing doesn't improve as they progress either, it starts bad and stays bad, except as you progress the ideas behind it get worse and worse as well.
I had no interest in seeing Twilight because it seemed like total trash, but then I heard Rifftrax was going to riff on it. So, I rented a copy and watched.
...I barely survived even with Rifftrax.
This is the cinematic equivalent of trying to bottle air. There's NOTHING in it. There isn't a damn thing in it with any real substance. While the plot is definitely terrible, the biggest problem are the characters.
When you make Padme and Anakin's relationship look genuine, there's a problem.
Harry Potter VII was good. It was the only book that broke out of the formula, it has some crappy contrived events - Ron leaves for no reason and comes back just at the right time etc. but overall it was good.
teen aged girls are dumb, and this movie was ingeniously made to reach to them...that's all there is to twilight.
just like the movie g.i. joe was made for dumb teen aged boys.
just a matter of time before these teen aged girls grow up and noticed how dumbed down the whole series was for their younger minds.
and by that time they'll be into sex in the city...which is for dumb late 20 early 30something women with thousand dollar shoes and penthouse suits on their minds 24/7....>>
I happen to be a 15 year old girl, and even those of us that enjoyed the book, we ALL hated the movie. Even hard core twilight fans will go see the movie over and over to LAUGH AT IT. o3o
Lol Harry Potter 7 book sucked? Harry Potter 5 SUCKED. It was much to drawn out and completely based on a huge plot hole (much like the 4th one). There was little to no reason why Dumbledore couldn't just say "btw Voldemort wants you to grab a prophecy from the Ministry so if you see that vision, don't believe it" and just leave it at that. Its too big of a mistake for Dumbledore IMO.
I feel the same way I was forced to see it for taking my sister to Watchmen, and its hard to judge because its I don't fit in to the targeted audience.
Since traditionally vampires are pale, I'm guessing Meyer was implying that vampires in general were perfection. From the amount of fawning over vampires in the Twilight fandom, I'd say the entire human race is being called imperfect.
For the record, I probably shouldn't have sounded so offensive when stating my previous opinion, especially since it appears you've read the books more extensively.
omg i felt the exact same way about harry potter! everyone i know says the seventh is their favorite book and i honestly cannot understand why! please please do a review on that!
Oh so let me get this straight. Meyer can go on and on page after page, about how breathtakingly beautiful this white boy is, and have her Mary Sue Bella, outright say that hes downright perfect, and I'm not supposed to take offence at this as a mixed race male? It's more of the "only white is beautiful" crap that Twilight fans have already bought hook line and sinker.. Fuck that shit and fuck you.
ya but in my opion any one can like twilight(and star wars) you just have to give it a chance. dont think of it as a sapy romance cause its not. its really action packed ok ;-)
It's not the lack of action that's the problem. It's that Meyer portrays Edward Cullen as the perfect guy based on words, when actually based on his actions hes really, really manipulative and creepy. Bella having the spine of a flannel and just taking it while talking about how beautiful he is just compounds the problem.
matthew and Stan, i'm at university currently and to part support that i have a part-time job in a book shop. I must sadly report there has been a dramatic increase in people buying the book twilight, although quite rightly you identified they are predominantly teenage girls/young women
I think today's films all look the same.

I call bullshit on the "not part of the target audience" excuse. No matter who the target audience is, it's no excuse for a crappy movie (or book). At their core, all people will like something even if it's outside of a genre that they normally like.

AcidHead27 2 years ago
@AcidHead27 Some reasons I hated it.
1. Kristen Stewart only has one facial expression (we all know what it is)
2. The source material sucked more than Lewinski (lame I know)
3. Even the actors (Pattinson and Stewart) hated the books and thought the fans were crazy.

I read the first book. It was one of the worst novels ever written, and if you think it was the best, you bring shame to Emily Dickinson, Jane Austen, and other female authors worthy of reverence. Your ignorance makes me sick with anger.
Kaulen777 1 year ago
@beachxbabe127 no sorry but the writing in twilight is about as good as my hand paintings when i was five. if you're in to vampires and all that, you should read, The Southern Vampire Mysteries. its a realistic take on a world where all the mystical creatures you here about are real, since you're fourteen I would wait until you're a little older cause the book series is very realistic, it has sex, drugs and everything. the HBO series True Blood is based on them.

on regards with the 7th harry potter book, i loved it, but it did feel like she just had a storyline vomit on us and threw all what was happening at once, while trying to make it exciting by killing off alot of minor characters
kilala1013 2 years ago
the thing with the sparkle thing, she tweaked it to make the reasons for them to be in school so that bella and edward will meet, cause they live in that predominately cloudy enviroment, where it doesnt matter if its cloudy or not they will still die due to the uv rays, and she just said well they dont go in the sun cause they sparkle, it is a dumb concept, she shouldve maybe borrowed concepts from the blade series if anything

The sparkle in sunlight concept reflects on the authors style, most people would call it "originality"
AndyHarvardTran 2 years ago
originality is one thing but you dont warp a concept that is hundreds of years old. the sparkle concept is rediculous even if it was considered 'original'
CombatWombat92 2 years ago
Twilight is the exact opposite of originality.
Cliche storyline.
Cliche characters that are static and overly dramatic.
The book is badly written.
No originality. Everything is cliche and has been done before.
This movie only appeals to loser girls who desire the popular hot guy, that in reality will never get.

Y'know, I'm not gonna say go read the books, because I'm not that heartless. But seriously CM, OK? OKAY!!!! There was absoultely no build-up in the romance, its Isabella(and i'll call the bitch that till the day I die!)see's Edward and goes all gooey immediately and as soon as Edward sniffs Isabella he wants to either hump the hell out of her or eat her alive (make what you will of that statement) it's just SHIT and TOTAL SHIT.

i totally agree with that
its like one minute they have just met and the next theycant live without each other hm okay
and the part where she finds out hes a vampire in the forest i was not happy with that scene, it was so bad
i have seen some pretty bad movies in my time
but this was the WORST movie i have ever seen
yaseuk 2 years ago

When you make Padme and Anakin's relationship look genuine, there's a problem.

teen aged girls are dumb, and this movie was ingeniously made to reach to them...that's all there is to twilight.
just like the movie g.i. joe was made for dumb teen aged boys.
just a matter of time before these teen aged girls grow up and noticed how dumbed down the whole series was for their younger minds.
and by that time they'll be into sex in the city...which is for dumb late 20 early 30something women with thousand dollar shoes and penthouse suits on their minds 24/7....>>

Ayatron34 2 years ago
Since traditionally vampires are pale, I'm guessing Meyer was implying that vampires in general were perfection. From the amount of fawning over vampires in the Twilight fandom, I'd say the entire human race is being called imperfect.
For the record, I probably shouldn't have sounded so offensive when stating my previous opinion, especially since it appears you've read the books more extensively.
oobleck999 2 years ago
omg i felt the exact same way about harry potter! everyone i know says the seventh is their favorite book and i honestly cannot understand why! please please do a review on that!
halomc101 2 years ago

Meyer flat out calls Edward perfection through her Bella. Now if we take this to include physically, which I am certain that it does....
Edward is white, and supposedly the perfect man. If so than to move away from that is to be more and more imperfect.
So by that logic, I take it a black man would be further from perfect than a white man, seeing how white men look closer to Edward. Great.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
There's nothing insightful in 'discovering' racism where there is none.
oobleck999 2 years ago 6
Oh so let me get this straight. Meyer can go on and on page after page, about how breathtakingly beautiful this white boy is, and have her Mary Sue Bella, outright say that hes downright perfect, and I'm not supposed to take offence at this as a mixed race male? It's more of the "only white is beautiful" crap that Twilight fans have already bought hook line and sinker.. Fuck that shit and fuck you.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
You've got to love that both the lead actors hate the books.
And Bella totally does that "You don't understand me" thing in the book. It's freaking horrible.
Rmlohner 2 years ago
ya but in my opion any one can like twilight(and star wars) you just have to give it a chance. dont think of it as a sapy romance cause its not. its really action packed ok ;-)
101MovieLover 2 years ago
It's not the lack of action that's the problem. It's that Meyer portrays Edward Cullen as the perfect guy based on words, when actually based on his actions hes really, really manipulative and creepy. Bella having the spine of a flannel and just taking it while talking about how beautiful he is just compounds the problem.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
