@Are1c Every BLJ is different. The endless stairs are really easy. Some of them require frame perfect movement. This one actually does look pretty easy but others...not so much.

It's part of the tool-assisted thing. I'm not sure how it works, but I believe if there's a mistake made during filming the video, it stops filming, then films the other times that were correct.

BLJ stands for "Backwards Long Jump". That's the name of the glitch I used to make that huge jump in this video. :P

So how do you do the BLJ?

"You have to do a long jump facing forwards, yet moving backwards. Then land at a certain slope or stairway and long jump backwards. Mario will not jump high enough and instead catch the same slope or stair way and he will be able to backwards long jump again. Endlessly repeating this will cause a speed increase of Mario's currently stored speed each time it is used. Once the desired speed is reached, simply stop jumping and Mario should zoom off backwards at maximum speeds."

Its INSANELY HARD! Its so hard in fact that it has been said it's only possible with tool assistance, which used frame advance and savestates to be able to BLJ 15 times a second, which I don't want to say is impossible, but its very unlikely that this star will be gotten unassisted unless a new method is discovered.

The name of the challenge is capless cannonless, in other words, you can get all the stars you can without unlocking a cap or cannon. Also, sammehboy2, can you make a video that shows that the cannon is locked in RR, and that you do have Somewhere Over the Rainbow? (start from the star selection screen, so I know you did collect it. I do not believe at this point that you collected it. I will apologize if I am proven wrong.

Yes, if that was the case, then anyone could just collect the 114 possible stars (I am aware 115 is possible, but only 114 have been gotten on a console) You don't have to go into courses like TTC, RR(since you haven't gotten star 6, its pointless to), and you only have to show once that the caps are locked, so courses like LLL and DDD are also unnecessary.

You seriously think only four people have it? I mean, it's no easy feat, but anyone with patience and even just a little skill can do it. The only even slightly challenging ones that there are that I can remember are Blast Away The Wall and Quick Race Through Downtown. Blast Away The Wall can be gotten with a little luck and patience and Quick Race is actually pretty easy if you know the tricks. Also, if you really don't believe me, I will see if I can get a vid of my file that has all 114.

A LITTLE SKILL?!? Yes, it's easier than beating the game with 0 stars on a console, but it's not easy. I even asked Myles who had it. He told me that Curtis and Ameba are the only two others besides me and him that he knows of. I still have that message saved somewhere. Why don't you go to him and ask? Ok, maybe more than 4 or 5 poeple have it, but it's not something hundreds of players have. How did you think that Blast to the Stone Pillar ans Free Flying for Red Coins were easy? THEY ARE HARD!

Okay, chill out man. As I said, it's no easy feat, but you really don't have to be amazing at this game to do it. Sure, Blast to the Stone Pillar and Free Flying for Red Coins are pretty damn hard, but with a little practice and patience anybody (well, anybody who's familiar with video games at least) could pull them off. Plus, I did say those were the only challenging ones I could think of. Those two are also hard, but I just forgot about them. My bad.

In order to do that enormous jump you have to BLJ on the carpet while it's elevating. This is possible on a console, but getting enough speed and the correct angle while doing it is impossible for a normal human being.

Its a trick. There are nemerous "backwards long jump" glitches in Super Mario 64. Some less likely to pull off than others. To do a backwards long jump, do a long jump. KEEP Z HELD DOWN AT ALL TIMES. When you land, hit A jups when you land, and repeat. While doing this, tilt the control stick back, so mario is jumping backwards. This will give you a "backwards long jump".

Use a cannon. There's a Pink Bomb-omb in the maze with the red coins, but you have to get there by going in that small room with the fire by magic carpet, then falling on the top of the maze. Anyways, talk to the Bomb-omb, then you gotta get on the flying ship where the cannon is and fire yourself into that rainbow ring, and you should land on the platform with the star on it.

Analizing the vid again, i see that it's possible to do the same as "shoot to the island in the sky" on BoB, so that you fly just below the star box and butt stomp for massive shortcut damage. Just take the longer extension of the carpet, and aim carefully.
