  • Hi there - looks a bit shallow that bro for those amount of fish . I would also recommedn taking the rocks out of the bottom and sides of the pond as these will trap waste and encourage bad bacteria and disease in your water.

  • I like the red bridge. It's so cute. It's so puny.

  • beautiful.

  • how much money is one of your biggest koi

  • What winter? This is San Jose, CA - it rarely gets below freezing.

  • how big is it in l and w and how did it cost to make

  • Still concerned that this pond is way too small for those fish. I'm sure they're in good hands, but god I'd hate to be cooped up swimming in circles for the rest of my life.

  • very nice pond ,,,if i were u ,,,i would put some tilapia on it ,,,so,,,when they grow up ,,i can eat them

  • check out my pond and let me know what ya think. i'm always open to anyones ideas.

mine is 5' deep in 2 spots, but i only have american koi, so they dont grow very big. i had many huge ones from japan, but they were stolen. plan to restock this year.

    eric

  • I have moved out the 3 largest fish out, and I now only have 7 fish in there. But, bear in mind, it is much deeper than it looks in the video (it is just under 3 feet deep) because the water was so clean at that early stage.

  • the pond dosn't look big enough for that amount of fish

  • wow your lucky i have a pond but with only 2 koi and 18 goldfish, you did a great job on that pond

  • wow your lucky i have a pond but with only 2 koi and 18 goldfish

  • realy neat and tidy job..lovely lookin fish to....10 out of 10

  • dude those must be expensive koi, how much did the pond kill your wallet

  • i like it! but i think the minimum amount of gallons for a koi pond is 1000+

i love the bridge, it gives it a japanese-garden like feel :) very cute.

  • you got some very nice koi

  • And did you use pond liner

  • Can you please tell me how many gallons that is

  • @MrFishermen98 ~750 gallons

  • do you hace a perfessional cleaner come out?

  • @2213catlover No, I do any cleaning myself.

  • @DocAhrens oh wow, must be hard work!

  • It's reel nice but I recommend you getting some water Lillys so the koi don't get sunburned and I'm not joking they can it also catches some of the food so the koi get a second chance to eat it before the filter gets it

  • @jameswray50 the pond is under a large thornless honeylocust tree, so I don't think the sun will be a problem, but thanks for the info. I have added a plant that looks like a spider plant at the edge where I could "lock" them in with rocks, but they don't really provide any shade.

  • What do you do for the winter? =/

  • @MinusRaincloud Winter? What winter :-) This is San Jose CA, and a killing frost is a rarity (one of 2 per winter), and ice is a non-issue. However, I do switch to a cool weather food, designed for temperatures under 50 degrees F.

  • It's a little small but they are gorgeous!

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too small for these fish...You need to make it much bigger for the fish to stay healthy....

  • @paperman699 Koi and Goldfish are both carp thats why they look the same.

  • wow thats really shallow

  • @11aamiller if you think just under 3 feet is shallow, then I guess it is.

  • @DocAhrens hahaha i guess so i know i want a really deep one like 6 feet. its a nice looking pond you have though beautiful fish

  • nice little feature that, well done!

    from geoff

    thebigpondcompany.co.uk :0)

  • racoons ate my 5 year old fish, 4 of them. now i bought 3 inch ones to start all over again.

  • Yes. The rocks at the bottom are going to be a problem in the future. Even with a BD, dirt collects in between the rocks and becomes toxic. However, nice pond.

  • Hey How did you make and how much it cost?

  • @VxXsamuraiXxV I rebuilt it using the existing materials, so I don't know about the pump box or waterfall box. The pump needed replacement and that cost about $180, and the new 15x15 .45 mil liner cost about $135.

  • love your pond. really nice

  • Wonderful

  • 10' x 10' x 2 3/4' deep

  • What are the dimentions of the pond

  • are these hard to build koi fish ponds???

  • Love the Pond an amazing job and the fish look so happy. I am looking at doing a Koi pond myself and am unsure of what direction to take regarding filters. Can you please help as i have read a few books and the best advise you can get is from somebody who has a pond already. I am looking at diging one 6mtrs by 3mtrs and 3 foot deep. It will be 18,000 Ltrs. Thanks Cormac

  • You did a wonderful job!

  • 2 3/4 feet deep

  • how deep is your pond? love it

  • did you just put the pile the bricks together and add in the liner and put more bricks on top..? i was thinking of doing that, but then i'm not sure if its stable or not? thanks.

  • @HlubOs I created a stable base of pea gravel and sand, leveling with a 48" level. After 4 layers, I laid a protective mat and the liner, being careful where I folded the excess liner and cutting wedge in the mat to remove excess to keep the top layer stable. I laid the last layer of brick on top of the padding and liner, and trimmed the liner and pad just outside of the bricks (minus a quarter to half inch to "hide" the liner). I can walk on the top of the wall without noticeable rocking.

  • beautiful set up you got in their.... the elephant ear plant is called Taro any Asian store thy carry that

    5 stars

  • @ryanwillwams wat type of food did you feed for them ? .

  • very nice mate, are the starting and running costs as high as i heard ? if you dont mind me asking

  • Remove some rocks! but nice pond!

  • What kind of additives do you add to the water on a regular basis? How often do you clean your waterfall filter? How often do you do water changes?

  • I use "Tetra Pond AquaSafe Conditioner" whenever I add tap water. I add Microbe-Lift to balance the microbes and reduce NH4 and NO3 levels whenever I clean out the waterfall filter (2-4 times/yr). I add a low rate of AlgaeFix to reduce filamentous algae.

  • take some rocks out the kois need more room

  • That would be perfect.

  • Man it a good pond, fish are happy, water is clean, he doesn't need anything larger. It's a nice pond so just back off.

  • It is a nice pond, but there are too many Koi. It's a new system so they will last for a while before water conditions deteriorate and the Koi suffer. Most hobbyists agree 450 gallons per Koi.

  • All true. But too many people are leaving stupid comments like too small, the fish will die. Well they look fine to me, even though technically it is too much koi, they look fine and happy. He should just get a filter that is rated for like 5,000 Gallons he will be fine. but.... So far so good.

  • I am currently using a Tetra OFX-2000 (2000 GPH). I am strongly considering a 3200 GPH unit to increase flow for better health - any thoughts?

  • My thoughts.... Keep it how it is! Well i would have put the skimmer on the outside of the pond, and added a UV light (Like 30 Watts). Other than that, I like it =)

Also i don't think you need such a large pump, i mean i don't think it would hurt, but you don't want a whirl pool either?

P.S. I watched this video in HQ And your fish are really beautiful, I mean it! Simply stunning.

  • @xrayfeeney not 450! lol!, 100 feet, 450 gallons is 450X3X3=4050feet, you could almost fit 10 koi in that man!, and you only need around 50 feet a fish :)

  • the fish seem happy. As long as you do regular water canges you should be ok with the small pond. I think its great but to many fish. SELL SOME!!!

  • nice.. but small... id only keep 2 of those fish in it.

btw, how do you keep it running by electricity? where is it plugged in at?

  • I had an electrician install an outdoor electrical box on the outside of the house behind the waterfall. It has 3 GFCI plugs, one of which has a switch so I can easily turn off the pond for feeding and/or maintenance.

  • Those rocks on the bottom are going to collect a lot of bad stuff in a few years. Do you have a bottom drain?

  • Yes, it has a bottom drain that supplies about 30 percent of the total flow. The rest of the flow comes from the surface feed in the side of the pump box.

  • @helterskelter1 yes, it has a bottom drain, that flows into the bottom/side of the pump box. takes about 1/4 - 1/3 of the flow into the box.

  • nice but too small,,, you need at least 500 litres per small koi and 1000 litres per big koi

  • great pond ..how many gallons is that pond?how deep?

  • 3 feet deep, and about 750 gallons

  • i agree that you dont need a large pond to house large kois, just let your common sense work, on how to supplicate their needs....... just like an aquarium, keeping a piece of river in your house...

  • @bryantapulgo bigger pond ensures better life

  • great design but still looks a little for some many fishes

  • lovely pond how deep is it

  • awesome pond, this is exactly what i been looking for for my house, how many gallons? how did you get this all set up

  • those koi are awesome! can you give me the white one?

  • Cool Pond! GREAT FISH! They are gigantic!

  • I know its a littel shallow, but it is a good pond.

  • It's a very nice looking pond. But a koi pond should be at least 4 foot deep. You could get away with 3 feet, but that is pushing it.

  • my pond is 3 and a half feet deep , but i only have small koi's in it.

  • oh and my nans pond is only 1 and a half feet deep and she has big koi's in it.

  • Great job on this pond.

  • nice pond and awesome job

  • nice pond:)

  • Hawaiidoves, I live kahului... i agree with Bugman2494, definatey Taro

  • very nice and creative koi pond, though maybe lessen the ogons to 1 only, maybe sell it or give it away or no chagois is better look to the pond.

  • awesome job!

But i was going to make it, i would make it much deeper. Yo hawaiidoves, in australia here we call that plant green taro

  • Great pond. Even better considering it was a first attempt. I personally would have made it bigger to allow for growth of koi. That aside it is a million times better than the majority of 'koi ponds' that I have to rip out during the course of my work. Check out some of my projects - and my koi pond on my channel.

  • I wish i could have a pond like yours.

  • nice

  • nice pond man... you did a good job... you part of the bay area koi pond clubs?

  • I think it's too small :S

  • Gorgeous pond! We're trying to buy our first house and I totally want to build our own pond if the backyard is large enough to have a small one like this.

  • absolutely incredible great work.

  • I think you did an awesome job with the pond, dont listen to the other ppl, theyre just jelaous cuz they dont have an awesome pond like yours

  • Nice pond! the plant that you have in the back is common in Kaneohe. We call it ape[ah-pay]. It gets really big in the tropics. I like the clarity of your water. Is your fish healthy? Are you using a UV light?

  • Nice pond, though selling of some of the worst fishes in there is better like the platinums except for the best one

  • Pond is 3 feet deep (+/- 4 inches), and in San Jose, CA it doesn't get that cold, so I think it should be deep enough...

  • i cant's see really good but i do not think this pond is very deep

your koi's can get trouble with this in the winter....

for the rest.. very nice pond !
