I am pretty average, these guys are just dorks.

Both paintballing and larping have very similar risks. I have had teeth chipped by LARPing blades, and have had bruising similar to Paintball. Only real difference is that LARPing also has roleplaying, which tends to be a lot more adult. (We actually roleplay torture!)
@Doctadeth The larping I did was the European style, the kind where you get shunted from the game entirely if you wear sneakers and t-shirts and the 'monster' costumes are made by the same person who did set design of Dr Who 2005-09. There was a fellow who brought a stage guillotine and hangman's noose to play his part as an executioner. He simply showed up and said he wanted to play this and introduced his character within the game as such...needless to say, it was hellishly bloody and cool :D

But the ones in Europe made of closed foam wrapped and shaped around fibreglass cores and painted in coloured latex with lead-weighted handles can break bones. My most interesting injury occurred by standing behind a 6 foot tall guy wielding a two-handed double bladed axe, 1.6 metres long and pretty heavy. He swung it behind him to get some momentum and smacked me in the side of the head. I hit the ground and saw stars.

Guys that exists already, its called scenario paintball. There are role players on the field making points swaging the game and progressing the story on the field all weekend. Its actually quite fun. Now LARP without guns, that sounds like no fun to me.

However in both paintball and LARPing you are simulating battles with safe weaponry. And have a set of agreed upon rules including hit systems, time limits, and what weapons you can use. And if you scenario paintball, you LARP, they are literally the same thing.

A couple of my mates and I use LARPing as a sparring medium. We'll practice martial arts with the boffer swords to cut down on injuries that we'd get from using the daitos and shinai.

I've actually done something that's a combination of paintball and LARPing. Not all LARPs are medieval fantasy worlds--the one that we did with paintball guns was a one-shot, mock alien invasion, and it was really friggin' awesome.
I do play the fantasy style LARPs as well, though, and those are more fun and by far harder than the guys in this podcast think. I mean, there are some lame LARPs out there, but there are also really awesome ones, too.

Drachenfest looks very professional and serious about what they do. A lot of others, I can't say the same for them.

It is actually kind of funny how different these people think LARPing and paintballing are. I will not go into all the LARP things they got wrong, because literally every LARP is different.(I have LARPed with paintball guns)
However in both paintball and LARPing you are simulating battles with safe weaponry. And have a set of agreed upon rules including hit systems, time limits, and what weapons you can use. And if you scenario paintball, you LARP, they are literally the same thing.

You act out the play of a soldier in a battlefield, football and soccer are football and soccer, you dont pretend to be something. Only thing paintball takes over LARP is that it can actualy get painfull at points. Paintball is LARP in a way dude, dont deny it. Yeah LARP is idiotic and paintball isnt, buteither way Paintball is a form of role play, (except speedball)

Some of it is pretty lame, I will admit. Ones that organize themselves like the ones he's making fun of tend to be lame. Using spells, most of the time, are really retarded and just hinder the game. Realism, or gtfo.
A couple of my mates and I use LARPing as a sparring medium. We'll practice martial arts with the boffer swords to cut down on injuries that we'd get from using the daitos and shinai.
This was funny as hell, some of the LARPers on here need to get a sense of humor.

ok quick break down. Woodsball-tactical mil sim or other wise paintball in the woods. Speedball- a sport only one vote from the olympics, which didn't mke the olympics due to poor African countries. Larping- you just beat the shit outta each other with swords and stuff. Never went larping, but I paintball alot. But from videos watched paintball seems to be beter.

I've actually done something that's a combination of paintball and LARPing. Not all LARPs are medieval fantasy worlds--the one that we did with paintball guns was a one-shot, mock alien invasion, and it was really friggin' awesome.
I do play the fantasy style LARPs as well, though, and those are more fun and by far harder than the guys in this podcast think. I mean, there are some lame LARPs out there, but there are also really awesome ones, too.

Drachenfest looks very professional and serious about what they do. A lot of others, I can't say the same for them.
