I remember this but almost all the houses around us had a great amounts of damage and some were destroyed. Also and old lady died because a tree fell on her house.
...And of course we all know,..that if electrical lines were buried UNDERGROUND...this never would have happened,...but mankind continues to live in ignorance and stupidity,....and guess what folks?....IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN
lol....that's the funny thing about all this...it's gonna happen again because we continue to live in a 18th century electrical grid...amazing,...just amazing stupidity
Put the electrical grid underground....doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out ROFL
We had scores of utility trucks from other states 'camped out' in the Meijer parking lot until at least late March!! Trees were seriously damaged all over Muncie & surrounding areas. Out-of-state tree trimmer trucks came in to help clean up & stayed until summer!! With so many branches everywhere--2005 was definitely the year of 'free firewood!'
i was only 7 when this ice storm happend, i remember it all, we had a karoseen heater and we all slept in the living room, me and my older sister played the board game Pay Day the whole time, i also remember waking my mom up and asking what was the weird sound outside, turns out it was a tree branch (really big) snapping in half. the branch ended up falling and hitting the top of my house but there was no damage. i remember it and now comes 1 even worse and it is starting now
I was 12 during the 2005 ice storm, now it is Jan. 30, 2011 and a bad ice storm is coming I'm praying that this one is not as bad as the one in 2005, that was one of the worst scarriest moments of my life. Also this would close school, and we will end up going until mid June. In my Senior year. :(
pshhh.... i remember the ice storm. i was five years old, but i remember it like it was yesterday. we didn't have power for exactly one week. friday to friday. we were SO happy when it came back on. i remember we had a little snowman push light to go to the bathroom, lol. we all slept in the living room, in sleeping bags. obviously, when if i was only five, i LOVED the ice storm and i LOVED having all the power out for a week! best thing that ever happened, when i was five. no one else did! lol!
We were out of power for 9 days and I LOVED every minute of it! I was a student at Southside at the time and didn't have to go to school, that was a great vacation lol. We heated with a woodstove so the whole family came to our tiny ass house and we had heat and food because we cooked the wood burner. Dad hooked up a spot light to the truck battery and ran it into the house and I had a battery operated boombox with tons of batteries. We were livin great!
I was in 7th grade at the time. Half of our entire family came to our house because we got our power back before anyone else did. It was like a giant sleepover for about 2 or 3 days.
i remember all that no school for like a week and no power for over a week lol every pole in randolph county snapped off. got to see the lines of 100's of power trucks coming in to fix it
he also forgot to thank all the other workers that
were out helping restore services like the Fire dept, Police, City crews, Comcast crews, At&t crews and tree trimmers. All of these people worked in very dangerous situations and got the job done thanks to all.
This happens around the world quite often. But of course, people that live in Muncie think it's the center of the universe. oh well, my power was only out for 1 day, but I stayed high the whole week.
yeah, i remember this. i was a bsu student at the time. i worked 16hr shiftts in a nursing home along with my ex gf kelli. I didnt even realize the severity of the problem until i spoke to my brother. sorry to say this, but this was the happiest time of my life, because all of the outside world was cut off and it was just me and her! time fllies when your in love!
wow i live in muncie i was in the 7th grade then and i was only with out power for like 4hr or so. but my best frind lived like 4blocks away and was without power for like 7 or 8 days
me and my friends were in highschool when this happened we were walking around and i remember transformers just started to blow it was scary but we missed like 2 and a half weeks of school
i live in albany, which is very close, btw, and we saw flames on powerlines at the house next door. I was only 10 years old then. I hated having to stay in a shelter at Delta High School.
