That's my peanut lighter. You can get them at Country Comm. They're pretty neat because they have a o-ring and take regular lighter fluid too. That o-ring keeps the lighter fluid from evaporating. The fluid lasts for months if you don't use it instead of days like the old zippo!
i like it! i like the design & simmer plates. you might think of a clever windscreen for it....the windscreen will keep alot of the heat from excaping out & you might get a faster boil time if the heat is consentrated more around the pot. if it was the height of the pot & stove..it would force the heat up the sides of your pot
I just thought of another idea for the false bottom that won't require a screw rivet gun.
Take a piece of aluminum about the same size as the bottom. Drill 3 slightly oversize holes for a screw (standard or metric). Put a nut on and insert through hole in aluminum plate. Adjust the distance from the bottom of the plate to the bottom of the screw and tighten the nut against the plate. Now there will be about 3/16-1/4" of thread sticking through the plate. Now the rods only need to be tapped.
just stick 3 thick nuts with plenty of JB weld to the bottom, preferably by the tin's wall. Could be 3 tubes as tall as the tin wall. can be reinforced with glued strips of alum lashing/thin metal.
could have a metal fine mesh, mini kitchen siv etc., on top to hold all & provide a nicer flame pattern.
What were you lighting the stove with? the little silver thing with the flame? Thank you.

I got the wick from a online candle store.
The aluminum plates I got from work.
They were some sort of ID tag for some tooling.

Couldn't the diameter of the tobacco tin be reduced to ensure that some of the flames don't escape outside the pan ?

Nice, simple, safe. A picture of pot stand base would be good, but I think I can visualize it from your description.

also to hold a central grommet: easy fuel feed.
+ a ziplock carry case in case of leaks.
nice job, keep going.
