The fact that man knows right from wrong proves his intellectual superiority to the other creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his moral inferiority to any creature that cannot.
another gal and i are planning to ride our horses to d.c. to protest the ahhhilation of our wild mustands and burros; is there anybody out there with the love for these horses and the guts to ride with us. it's insane, but it CAN be done.
@greatbigbubby I AM TOTALLY IN - i'd have to lend a horse unfortunatley i don't have my own yet but i really think that to stop the slaughter and roundups a crazy thing like this is just what we need!!
This is a serious problem that is also addressed in David Martin Anderson's just-released novel, 'The Last Good Horse.' I suggest listening to the author's YouTube interview by doing a YouTube search using his full name. The book is excellent (deals with the mass slaughter of our mustang herds in Montana during the 1930s; historical fiction) and should be mandatory reading for anyone over sixteen.
People...the BLM has been videotaped removing TOTAL herds. Not just a handful of youngsters that are adoptable. They remove COMPLETE HERDS. Then the adoption program is a joke. The people that adopt are normally those that have no clue about how to train any type of horse, let alone a wild one and then end up neglecting/abusing him in the process. THEN they give up the horse for it to go to adoption yet again. Ever hear of a 3 strike horse? Third time he is euthanized, no more chances.

I do not necessarily feel that the wranglers hired to do a job are terrible people. I believe they just don't have a full understanding of the cruelty they are causing. Through the actions and ability of people like all of us, we can open peoples eyes and hearts. It is up to people like you to open your hearts to these people and people making political decisions to protect these herds and there way of life and freedom. It is good we do not tolerate cruelty in any form.
These men are terrible people, taking the lives of the heart of America as these beautiful creatures carried their men into war for the win or loose. These people need to realise that these horses are wild and free and need to have a large land to have a proper happy life. We don't slaughter the horse catchers children so why should the horses have to have their children dead and thats not even the worst part, they use the least inhumane method possible. THESE TERRIBLE HUMANS MUST BE STOPPED!!!
So unfortunate that some don't understand the value of what these horses offer. There is ALWAYS another way, and some times just letting things be until you figure it out is best. These horses should NOT BE IN PENS ANYWHERE but be FREE and they all look healthy so it isn't my opinion that they are ready to die on the grazing land given to them when it was the intention of those with powers meant that the government should protect them. Wild Horses should remain just like you and me!!!!!!!
I noticed you failed to mention that the BLM has an adoption program for the animals they capture (promote those animals at least).
The BLM does not try to kill every horse it finds and only does so when the population reaches a critical level. Even if the BLM stopped all management of the herds, the herd populations would experience a spike and crash cycle. You would watch Cloud and other horses like him die not from a quick gun shot, but under go slow starvation.
@Jedimaster4100 what this video is saying is that the wild herds are being taken into captivity and oh wait we don't have enough funds to feed them so lets just kill them. The herds in the wild are endagered and that is what is failed to be mentioned. Humans encroach on the land that has been set aside for the horses, not the cattle ranchers that use the government land for grazing. I know the BLM has an adoption program, and thats great, but they are killing the ones that are in captivie.
Why is our ony solution always killing? We took the horses in the first place to make room for cattle that were INVASIVE in the first place! They're not even native! And we have them here just to kill them and eat? Then we can't afford to feed the wild horses, so we kill them. Seems unfair and they didn't think it out very well to me. Wild mustangs belong on the range!
It is the ten million cattle that don't belong on public land in the Western USA. They are doing the damage
Horses evolved here in North America, they migrated to Asia via the same land bridge that humans came over.
Wild horses disappeared in North America 10,000 years ago but they were here for a lot longer than that. Many bones have been found that have spear and club marks. Cliffs have been found with hundreds of bones below them. Humans ate horses to death in North America.
Do these people understand that by not rounding up wild horses they will end up overpopulating and STARVE to death? Do they understand how much 75,000 horses need to maintain a healthy weight in land that wasn't meant to house herds of wild horses? These people ignorance is going to bring these beautiful horses population to an all time low if they actually succeed with what they have planned.
NEIN! Das darf nicht passieren, ich verfolge schon jahrelang seine Geschichte. Kann man ihn kaufen??? Ich kaufe ihn sofort!!! An wen muß man sich wenden? Bitte eine Adresse???
One of my best teachers was a horse. Star was a broken-down show horse -- abused, starving, and angry. I saw myself in him. After adopting him, I took him to the wilderness, loosened the reins, hung onto his mane for dear life, and just let him run! After a year of getting to choose his own path through the wilderness, Star became as gentle as a dove. He regained his peaceful free spirit, and so did I. This wild horse taught me the importance of freedom in achieving world peace.
This is SOOO sad! :( That's horrible! I dont get it! They round them up, but dont have enough money for them. Well then why do it? Seriosuly, i understand they're competeing for graze with cows... but I'm not sure...
That's SOOO sad:,( i'm gonna do my part! cause these horses are the only link to human history! and we need to keep not just a memory but them themselves.
Il faut vraiment sauver Cloud et son troupeau et tous les mustangs des Arrowhead Mountain !!! Signez la petition !!! Il faut faire quelque chose !!! Allez !!!
English :
We must save Cloud and his herd (sorry i'm french and i don't know the translation in english of the word "troupeau") and all Prior wild horses !!! Sign the petition !!! Come on !!!
Do you know how many mustangs and burros were adopted out during the '09 fiscal year? 785!! Only 785 animals out of how many thousand born were found homes. How about instead of bitching about how unfair it all is, you actually save a life and bring a mustang home. I did and now have 2 wonderful horses that make a nice addition to my herd. And I am sure that they are completely miserable with 24/7 access to food and water, proper hoof and vet care, and a job to do. LOL.
Smrobs84....Since you have all the answers then what happened to the rest of the horses that were kidnapped and parted from their family and their home...are they still lingering in the pens or have they become dogfood?? nice alternative...i find it hard to believe there is a shortage of land unless it is to be used for ranchers and their meat cattle...why don't you fill us in??
There is not an overpopulation of wild mustangs. There are eight million cattle compared to roughly twenty-thousand mustangs. The cattle out number the horses 200 to 1.
Mismanagement is at the root of most of these problems. Despite federal protection, wild horses have been relegated to the most inhospitable areas of the range. Still, they have adapted and survived; most horses rounded up by the BLM are well-fed and healthy. However, public land fencing often prevents horses from accessing scarce natural water sources and disrupts their widespread grazing patterns.
What would you have them do? Release those thousands of horses back onto overgrazed land so that they can slowly starve or die of disease this winter? The fact is that there are too many people in this country (population) so the rangeland for the horses is decreasing, yes. However, culling the herds is the only option to preserve any amount of them. There are not enough adopters and they don't have a big enough budget to provide proper care for so many animals.
The main cause of degradation of public lands is livestock use, not wild horses. Cows graze within a mile of water, while wild horses are highly mobile, grazing from five to ten miles from water, at higher elevations, on steeper slopes, and in more rugged terrain. A congressionally-mandated study by the National Academy of Sciences found that, in one year, livestock consumed 70% of grazing resources on public lands, while wild horses and burros consumed less than 5%.
In stark contrast with BLMs assertions, scientific studies have shown that horses actually benefit their environment in numerous ways; vegetation seems to thrive in some areas inhabited by horses, which may be one reason the Great Plains were once a "sea of grass." Generally, range conditions in steep hilly areas favored by horses are much better than in lower areas frequented by cattle.
Cows have no upper front teeth, only a thick pad: they graze by wrapping their long tongues around grass and pulling on it. If the ground is wet, they will pull out the grass by the roots, preventing it from growing back. Horses have both upper and lower incisors and graze by "clipping the grass," similar to a lawn mower, allowing the grass to easily grow back.
A team of Russian scientists, part of a cooperative venture with the United States, came in 2001 to study the effects of grazing animals on riparian areas in Nevada. They tested streams for nutrients and examined the desert and Sierra to learn techniques to improve the environment of their homeland.
The scientists found that cows, which tend to camp around water sources, cause more damage to the stream banks than wild horses, which tend to drink and move on: "When we saw horses drinking from creeks, we didn't see much impact except for hoof prints.
The water looked clean, had good overhanging branches and there was no sign of erosion on the banks. There was an abundance of insects and animals, including frogs and dragonflies and water-striders." Areas extensively used by cattle had fewer nutrients in the water and showed signs of bank erosion and other damage, concluded the study.
Wild horses should not be used as scapegoats for range degradation that is in fact primarily caused by private livestock: for instance, environmentalists have determined that in Nevada, home of the vast majority of America's remaining wild horses, the herds have little impact on the ecosystem compared with the hundreds of thousands of cattle that also roam the Nevada range.
The Western Watersheds Project acknowledges that "the main cause of degradation of public lands in the arid west is livestock use and not wild horses."
The National Academy of Sciences found annual rates of increase of 10% or less in wild horse populations, a far cry from the 20% increase relied upon by the BLM to justify its removal program. Wild horses do have predators, in the form of mountain lions and bears. In 2004 for instance, only 1 out of 28 foals survived in Montanas Pryor Mountain area. Such low survival rate was mostly due to mountain lion predation.
the BLM is going to do that, the Cloud Foundation/US government should put a permanent ban on them for trying to harm wild mustangs that need to be preserved
Feral, wild, reintroduced - all smoke screens - THEY ARE HERE NOW, ON OUR WILD PUBLIC LANDS, AND THAT IS WHERE THEY NEED TO STAY.
And, ACTUALLY hunting animals, is by and large, a conservative sport, especially fond of shooting them from helicopters, then they run off and die a slow and painful death in the forest.
Why is cruelty to any animal ok? Have doubt that roundups are cruel? Check it out.
The Humane Society of the United States classifies wild horses as wildlife - ok by me.
i actually called blm this am after i heard of the round up an i went on their website and e-mailed them also, and you know i do have a ferral horse, compliments of blm, alot of work and patience but well worth it
no, that's not exactly what I meant, I mean escalate the protests, stand in the roads and block access to the herd, but that's moot now, the damage has been done, we failed cloud.
leave the darn horses alone ,haven't we done enough to nature ,we take away all the land to build stupid houses for an over populated world, women and men should be fixed at age 20, .let nature take care of itself ,if we would quit killing all the wolf ,they would keep the population down but no we kill them also ,is there something wrong with humans and the way we think
Check your facts. They are native to this continent. YOU however are not! They have also been here 200+ years longer than the European white settlement, that gives them seniority.
Read the Act, it mandates their protection and preservation for future generations. Who are you to deprive future generations?
Answer 1: No, the native american horse died out in the prehistoric age. Horses were reintroduced to North America during the 16th and 17th century by the Spanish explorers.
Answer 2: The died out during the prehistoric ages.
Really? I'd like to see the Archaeological documents on this, I thought it was the cowboys in the 1800's that caused it. From what I understood, thre were lots of wild horses in the 1900's.
Um, no. First off, archaeology is the study of human cultures, not native animals. Since horses aren't human, you won't find any archaeologic documents on them.
"Wild" horses weren't in North America in the 1900s or today. They are feral horses. The wild horses died out in prehistoric times, long before he cowboys.
The prehistoric horses you are in reference to went extinct before The North American continent was inhabited by the ancestors of today's Native Americans.
there are, they cowboys/farmers/government are killing them off, driving them into the ocean and running them off cliffs. So much for America's heritage. Sick dickheads.
JimHimCO, You can see the Pryor roundup for yourself on these YouTubes -
How can you say they are not surviving - they are fat! I think there is a lot of confusioin about mixing conclusions about recently feral domestic horses and the historical nature and evidene of survival of the rare and isolated conquisdators spanish blood line "wild horse"
Anyway, They are on our public land, that I pay my taxes for and I want them left there.
Toryray!. Your ignorance is quite embarrassing and shows the lack of culture that surrounds you, your family and your society environment. . People like you are a waste of life into this world, a waste of a soul, a waste of time. But I guess you heard that from your father many times, don't you? start doing positive things for this world instead of making harm. People like you shouldn't be born but i guess that has been the task and the grief that your mother will have to carry forever.
I do not understand your message, and why you call me ignorant..I said nothing bad about the Red Indians, it was at the Americans as a whole nation that I made my remarks...I am a historian on the American Red Indian and know about their suffering...The yanks are the racists, they still treat black people in america like second class citizens...I suggest the get glasses and read propely, or stop smoking the weed........IDIOT!
AYASHEMAUSI! I think you have lost the plot, we are in fact talking about wild ....or feral horses being culled by the American government, I live in a free country I speak my mind....BLOODY IDIOT!!!!!
Toryray! You better watch out about how you speak your mind on the internet.
You never know who's on the net or who is watching you closely.
For all I know is very easy to follow the white man's tracks like the Indians did it in the past.
United Kingdom isn't that big. And I know how to find you. There's no need for ignorant racist comments about other peoples' ethnicity. You should buy a history book for all I know and study the "Little Big Horn" battle. (Continues next coment)

Let them go free? they can fight for them self i really don't want cloud to go :'( i bought his breyer family last week i want to help but im only 13 :
In a way, I belive them. I mean, look at deer populations. You don't hunt them, then people get attacked by bucks and deer roadkill everywhere. At one time, the US was trying to wipe out the horses. (Watch end of Hidalgo for a general idea) They would drown the horses, etc. So that kept the pop down. Thing is, wolves, Mountain Lions and other predators are so rare they can't really effect the population.
On the other hand, I think someone thinks there be gold out there, yellow or perhaps black
The most good we can do is spread the truth. The animals are starving to death in the wild. There is no funding to supplement their diets. There are 30,000 ...that is WAY too many. How many did North America have a thousand years ago? ZERO! Do you understand this?
The horses are NOT STARVING! I've seen these horses in the wild, and its apparent that you have not - otherwise you would know that they are healthy. According to fossils found in America horses were here and they deserve to stay.
in 1900 there were 3 million Wild Horses and the land supported them - but not mankind
I think you need to go back and research the facts. There were 2 million in North America...not 3 million. Furthermore, you've seen all 30,000 in the wild?
I think this YouTube is about the Pryor spanish blood line, rare isolated herd, not about all the wild horses in America. So one does not need to see all 30,000 to want to save this rare iconic wild horse, the horse of the spanish conquistadores - proven by DNA sample.
The fossils found in North America do NOT resemble the horses of today. They were extinct. That is why horses are called feral, not classified as wild. So I'm still waiting for you to come up with the horse population in North America in the year 1009. Again, it's zero.
by the way it is a known fact that wild horses do in fact have other predators dwindling their numbers to dangerously low levels and deficite populations, which are bears and especially mountain lions.
JimHinCO-I didn't say anything, and why are you here? you are not helping the matter with your disinformation and babble baloney, you obviously don't give a rat's touche about cruelty to animals.
I'm here because this link was sent to me to show the deceiptful propoganda that hurts true causes of animal cruelty.
You didn't say anything? You have PAGES of comments and you specifically responded to mine which sent me an email. So, lying dumbass, quit with the personal attacks and get down to facts you emotional twit!
you are not a very honest person and are probably sent to spin the situation by the BLM/affilliates: to destroy what we are trying to do. I don't have to answer to you, and you are the one doing personal attacks not me or anyone else. Your own words discredit you, nobody has to do that for you. You are only here to boost your own ego at someone else's expense; doing these poor animals NO GOOD.
Again, you are simply clueless to the PAGES of comments and personal attacks you've posted. Please go to page 2, 3, and 4 to see how you initiated the personal attacks. Have you actually read the BLM site for explanation? Have you actually studied the topography of the area these herds are in? Do you understand that these animals are not native to north america and the land cannot support them on the drier years?
Our Wild Mustangs are a Species Apart and are in danger of Extinction: which danger places them automatically on the Endangered Species Act. The Government has NO AUTHORITY to cause any species extinction for any excuse: especially our Mustangs! so...
They don't have any right to kill Cloud, his family, and his herd. Is there anything I can do to help? I already bought the Cloud's Legacy Gift Set from a local tack store in December. The BLM should just shut up and set Cloud, his family, and his herd free in the Mountains. I hate the BLM.
i will b sooooooooooo sad if they kill them i am english and i dont see much wild horses but what ive seen on vids they are beautiful especillay cloud
Adopt the wild horses! Dont kill them, but send them to be adopted by people! Like trace! Others can be set free again! This shouldent happen! Wild horses should not die because we are getting to close to their home or because they are just breeding and behaving normaly!
and what ya gonna do with thousands of unwanted horses?
they are taken to auction three times, and if by the third time no one wants them they are slaughtered.
but guess what, even though slaughter is still legal in the US, the last slaughter plants were closed last year. now around 100,000 unwanted horses are suffering, starving to death, or being shipped to mexico or canada where plants are NOT monitored.
So, thanks a lot to people like you there are tens of thousands of horses suffering!
truebluegrit, that is not true, they didn't have to round them up, THEY WERE/ARE WILD and should stay that way. We don't round up all the wild deer do we??? They are a rare animal and in danger of extinction, nobody has the authority to eradicate the species, here in America. It is all about the money with Americans, giveusabreak.
If you want to get rid of domestic interlopers - get rid of the several million cattle grazing on public lands- they only represent 3% of our nation's meat supply but the ranchers (who pay pennies to use OUR land) have greatly diminished the natural ecology including the decimation of native species and natural predators.
Development, urbanization, industry, pollution, and "management" of natural resources does WAY more damage to wildlife and habitat than wild horses and burros! Just within CO,UT,WY,MO,ID 2007 elk numbered 675-700k compared to about 5,500 wild horses. Bighorn now number 70k, burro's less than 3k and there's so many deer nationwide, there is no count and they are starting to use birth control on them! And the millions of head of livestock you are completely silent about? No impact, huh?
i've seen a film about cloud yesterday evening and i think that that's great what you do! i'm only 14 but i really wanna help you and the wild horses or mustangs! i'm looking how i can help.
Hillbilly - There is a difference between domestic and wild horses. They can fend for themselves perfectly fine, as long as we stop taking everything over. They've done it for years and years, after all. The only thing that's changed is us, and if horses have become destructive, it's only because we made it so.
Unfortunately, wild horse advocates don't have large campaign funds with which to buy votes. The ranching, mining, timber and gun lobbies do. Equus caballas evolved on this continent. Wild horses have as much right here as any other species. NO one can convince me that 30,000 wild horses can damage the range more than 4 million cattle. Who do they think they are kidding? We're not that stupid. VOTE for the horses and make it stick!
not to mention the destruction they cause to natural habitats! these are DOMESTIC ANIMALS BRED BY MAN WHICH CHANGED THERE PYSYOLOGY AND INTSINTS animals that got loose, i suppose we should just open the gates to all the dog pounds and let them run free and fend for themselves, since they where wolfs once right. this is the most cruel, irresponisble and idiotic thing ive ever seen to try and get the gov to leave them in the wild!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
these horses need to be removed, they are not on the brink of extiction they are DOMESTIC HORSES! ive seen thousands of them in my back yard even and have yet to see one that isnt sick poor and starving, these bs pics and vids of healthy ones are taken in reserves where they get the care that DOMESTIC animals need, i swear im gonna start posting vids of the pitiful horses i see everytime i go around the forest around my house so idiots like this bitch can see why they are being removed
Removed, but why hillbilly? Because the BLM has miserably failed to honor their commitment to care for these animals and work with organizations and agencies to develop humane, sustainable programs for managing these animals on the range and in holding centers?
There are viable aalternatives--The BLM should immediately begin an aggressive program of darting (injecting contraceptive with a dart from a distance) of horses in the field and separate from any roundup schedule!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Compairing these ferill horses to cattle on public land is silly, the cattle are being vacinated, and cared for, which DOMESTIC ANIMALS NEED the forest and blm moniters the green count constintly to prevent overgrazing, which can be controled when an animal such as cattle is being taken care of by man. The blm isnt rich, & tax $'s are streched to the limit anyway, to spend taxpayer $ 2 keep these destructive horses in the poor condition they are in the wild is stupid and cruel.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dont get me wrong i love horses, and i feel for these ferill horses, thats why they need to be removed. its just like picking up a poor starving stray dog and maybe having to put it to sleep, sure nobody likes it but as humans it is our responsability to take care of all animals and nature espiecally those we created and let get loose, like these "wild" horses. If you had to see them in the shape i do all the time and saw what they do to the land ud want it stopped too, i promise.
These creatures are sick and starving because the BLM has taken away their range so that more land can be sold to ranchers' for cattle grazing!
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed that the use of PZP reduced the cost of wild horse management. Had the BLM adopted an aggressive contraception program in 2004, the cost of long-term holding would be minimized and there would be no crisis today.
No horse should die for the agency's mismanagement--this is their fault!
well the thing is they are domestic animals, they cannot and should not be left in the wild to fend for themselves. and the blm doesnt sell land to ranchers it leases grazing right, which by the way makes revinue for the gov & doesnt take money from taxpayers to keep an envasive foreign domestic species in a place it shouldnt be. Also cattle fill the niche that bison left, the ranchers provide vital watersourses for wildlife as well as the cattle.
you may not know this but grazing cattle improves the land by keeping fuels and underbrush down, like i said they are so similar to bison that if grazing them is done properly (which it is or the rancher loses their lease) ive seen personly seep springs and water sourses that have been grazed by cattle for 130yrs get destroyed by the large hooves and habits of too many horses, plus they move differently than any wild animal or cattle, they will beat trails straigh off hills causing erousion.

you know hoses die all the time in slaughter houses and wiether u like it or not u benifit from it. they are a stock animal, not an "endangered" species, fact is in many nations horses are eatin just like beef, everyone is so sad that they are being killed, well atleast they arent wasting them and burying them or somthing like that. funny the blm is evil and mean for taking them to slaughter houses, but everyone including them uses products derived from slaughered horses everyday!
lol im the imbicile and ur too dumb to listen to anyone who actually lives or works w/ these animals lol ur a joke, why dont u just shut the hell up and let the people who know something about aggriculture and nature worry about this, u can take ur ass to starbucks and read a book about it jackass. u obviously have no brain, or any true consern for the welfare of these animals or the land they inhabit. well i do so if u dont like it fuck you :P lol
yeah im sure FACTS sound ridiculous to fuckin idiots. stupid ass idiot stay in ur cities and let us that know and care about nature and gods creatures take care of them both, becuase ur too fucking close minded and stupid to do it thats for damn sure lol
Personally I feel our whole goverment needs an overhaul, before they can regain control of the BLM. HOpefully we'll start to see a brighter future for everyone very soon. (We can only pray)
They have rounded up all the horses in the past 8years....hmm who's been in office the last 8 years or am I the only one who has made that assumption. He's oil hungry and the horses are in his way....(sorry not a Bush supporter..be glad when he's gone) Our only hope is that someone can talk who ever replaces him to release them....:)
No, you are not the only one who made the connection between wildlife loss, habitat loss and politics the last 8 years. Mankind have lost a great deal too over the years like the nature. Food, shelter, dignity, respect. For some countrymen, they are in similar situations as Cloud and his band.
I remember Teddy Roosevelt being our nation's biggest advocate of precious resources. Sure would be nice to have that mentality in today's leaders.
So much of our natural world has been destroyed. I fear for my grandchildren and all young people . They cannot survivein aworld without nature and wild horses are an important part of it.
this is ridiculous! Its their own stupid fault if they dont have any money! Dont make the horses suffer for their own stupidity! We are the horses voice and we have to stand up and take control of this! I am writing a book called "The Last Wild Herd", I doubt it will be published, But it is inspired by this story. We have to be the voice for the horses! They cant do this alone!
the majority of people are just sitting here wining "awe i signed a petetion!" well bull. we dont have the room or funding for these horses that we cant seem to adopt out.
so DO something about it.
dont make a video
make a DONATION.
theyre not doing this because 'they're destroying the land' they have to put these horses down because we simply dont have enough room, or funding for them.
so if you're so sorry for these horses, adopt one! or help pay for one!
we have the roon for them, they have the space now but we just want more room 4 malls and sub divisions when we already have enough room.we've already taken all the n.a.'s lands we dont need to take the mustangs.and fyi... not everyone can adopt,or afford the food, would u rather have them adopted and abused or neglected?think about that, u wouldn't want them hurt just b/c u want them to live.
I am outraged and have signed all petitions........BLM need to learn that they are not a law into themselves and the AMERICAN people need to stand firm and not allow this to happen. Wild Horses should remain WILD and FREE. I am not American but am adding my voice to your cause.
thats a load of bull you have thousands of acres that you have going spare so dont give me that on funding why dont you try raising money for them but no lets just kill them instead there only dumb animals no they deserve respect just like anything else
In North Carolina they have an auction every year (at least last time I checked!) where they sell wild horses... and lots of people do go. However, apparently they don't do this nationwide! Nothing in Nature is sacred any more.. it is too too sad. What has happened to our planet, and it's inhabitants! What kind of caretakers have we become? It seems we have lost touch with reality.
Ginger, good move, post the images of the horses as they are being round up for slaughter! Show the world exactly how America is brutalizing its most majestic of creatures!
Clearing public land of horses for cattle?! This is an absolute outrage!
Ginger, If you have more footage of roundups they need to get up on youtube. Only then can the American public realize the routine abuse and deaths of these animals and take action to end this insanity.
Please take action today to SAVE CLOUD'S LEGACY - they are trying to roundup grandson ECHO. just go to cloudfoundation "action alerts" and take action. Don't forget to sign my petition too (link is on my page)

MEBCBCBCME 1 year ago
I noticed you failed to mention that the BLM has an adoption program for the animals they capture (promote those animals at least).
The BLM does not try to kill every horse it finds and only does so when the population reaches a critical level. Even if the BLM stopped all management of the herds, the herd populations would experience a spike and crash cycle. You would watch Cloud and other horses like him die not from a quick gun shot, but under go slow starvation.
The program has its place.
Jedimaster4100 1 year ago

TheBlueRainEquus 1 year ago
It is the ten million cattle that don't belong on public land in the Western USA. They are doing the damage
Horses evolved here in North America, they migrated to Asia via the same land bridge that humans came over.
Wild horses disappeared in North America 10,000 years ago but they were here for a lot longer than that. Many bones have been found that have spear and club marks. Cliffs have been found with hundreds of bones below them. Humans ate horses to death in North America.
LeeAnne151 1 year ago
Do these people understand that by not rounding up wild horses they will end up overpopulating and STARVE to death? Do they understand how much 75,000 horses need to maintain a healthy weight in land that wasn't meant to house herds of wild horses? These people ignorance is going to bring these beautiful horses population to an all time low if they actually succeed with what they have planned.

LOL.
Smrobs84 2 years ago
Smrobs84....Since you have all the answers then what happened to the rest of the horses that were kidnapped and parted from their family and their home...are they still lingering in the pens or have they become dogfood?? nice alternative...i find it hard to believe there is a shortage of land unless it is to be used for ranchers and their meat cattle...why don't you fill us in??
donna1948ful 2 years ago
There is not an overpopulation of wild mustangs. There are eight million cattle compared to roughly twenty-thousand mustangs. The cattle out number the horses 200 to 1.
WisePillow 2 years ago
Mismanagement is at the root of most of these problems. Despite federal protection, wild horses have been relegated to the most inhospitable areas of the range. Still, they have adapted and survived; most horses rounded up by the BLM are well-fed and healthy. However, public land fencing often prevents horses from accessing scarce natural water sources and disrupts their widespread grazing patterns.
WisePillow 2 years ago
In such instances, better in-the-wild management is the answer, rather than costly and traumatic round-ups.
WisePillow 2 years ago
What would you have them do? Release those thousands of horses back onto overgrazed land so that they can slowly starve or die of disease this winter? The fact is that there are too many people in this country (population) so the rangeland for the horses is decreasing, yes. However, culling the herds is the only option to preserve any amount of them. There are not enough adopters and they don't have a big enough budget to provide proper care for so many animals.
Smrobs84 2 years ago
The main cause of degradation of public lands is livestock use, not wild horses. Cows graze within a mile of water, while wild horses are highly mobile, grazing from five to ten miles from water, at higher elevations, on steeper slopes, and in more rugged terrain. A congressionally-mandated study by the National Academy of Sciences found that, in one year, livestock consumed 70% of grazing resources on public lands, while wild horses and burros consumed less than 5%.
WisePillow 2 years ago
In stark contrast with BLMs assertions, scientific studies have shown that horses actually benefit their environment in numerous ways; vegetation seems to thrive in some areas inhabited by horses, which may be one reason the Great Plains were once a "sea of grass." Generally, range conditions in steep hilly areas favored by horses are much better than in lower areas frequented by cattle.
WisePillow 2 years ago
Cows have no upper front teeth, only a thick pad: they graze by wrapping their long tongues around grass and pulling on it. If the ground is wet, they will pull out the grass by the roots, preventing it from growing back. Horses have both upper and lower incisors and graze by "clipping the grass," similar to a lawn mower, allowing the grass to easily grow back.
WisePillow 2 years ago
A team of Russian scientists, part of a cooperative venture with the United States, came in 2001 to study the effects of grazing animals on riparian areas in Nevada. They tested streams for nutrients and examined the desert and Sierra to learn techniques to improve the environment of their homeland.
WisePillow 2 years ago
The scientists found that cows, which tend to camp around water sources, cause more damage to the stream banks than wild horses, which tend to drink and move on: "When we saw horses drinking from creeks, we didn't see much impact except for hoof prints.
WisePillow 2 years ago
The water looked clean, had good overhanging branches and there was no sign of erosion on the banks. There was an abundance of insects and animals, including frogs and dragonflies and water-striders." Areas extensively used by cattle had fewer nutrients in the water and showed signs of bank erosion and other damage, concluded the study.
WisePillow 2 years ago
Wild horses should not be used as scapegoats for range degradation that is in fact primarily caused by private livestock: for instance, environmentalists have determined that in Nevada, home of the vast majority of America's remaining wild horses, the herds have little impact on the ecosystem compared with the hundreds of thousands of cattle that also roam the Nevada range.
WisePillow 2 years ago
The Western Watersheds Project acknowledges that "the main cause of degradation of public lands in the arid west is livestock use and not wild horses."
WisePillow 2 years ago
The National Academy of Sciences found annual rates of increase of 10% or less in wild horse populations, a far cry from the 20% increase relied upon by the BLM to justify its removal program. Wild horses do have predators, in the form of mountain lions and bears. In 2004 for instance, only 1 out of 28 foals survived in Montanas Pryor Mountain area. Such low survival rate was mostly due to mountain lion predation.

2 what happened to the native species?
RascalCoyote 2 years ago
Answer 1: No, the native american horse died out in the prehistoric age. Horses were reintroduced to North America during the 16th and 17th century by the Spanish explorers.
Answer 2: The died out during the prehistoric ages.
JimHinCO 2 years ago
Really? I'd like to see the Archaeological documents on this, I thought it was the cowboys in the 1800's that caused it. From what I understood, thre were lots of wild horses in the 1900's.
RascalCoyote 2 years ago
Um, no. First off, archaeology is the study of human cultures, not native animals. Since horses aren't human, you won't find any archaeologic documents on them.
"Wild" horses weren't in North America in the 1900s or today. They are feral horses. The wild horses died out in prehistoric times, long before he cowboys.
JimHinCO 2 years ago

In a way, I belive them. I mean, look at deer populations. You don't hunt them, then people get attacked by bucks and deer roadkill everywhere. At one time, the US was trying to wipe out the horses. (Watch end of Hidalgo for a general idea) They would drown the horses, etc. So that kept the pop down. Thing is, wolves, Mountain Lions and other predators are so rare they can't really effect the population.
On the other hand, I think someone thinks there be gold out there, yellow or perhaps black
DrPepperandOreos 2 years ago
The most good we can do is spread the truth. The animals are starving to death in the wild. There is no funding to supplement their diets. There are 30,000 ...that is WAY too many. How many did North America have a thousand years ago? ZERO! Do you understand this?
JimHinCO 2 years ago
The horses are NOT STARVING! I've seen these horses in the wild, and its apparent that you have not - otherwise you would know that they are healthy. According to fossils found in America horses were here and they deserve to stay.
in 1900 there were 3 million Wild Horses and the land supported them - but not mankind
wheediesel 2 years ago
I think you need to go back and research the facts. There were 2 million in North America...not 3 million. Furthermore, you've seen all 30,000 in the wild?
JimHinCO 2 years ago
I think this YouTube is about the Pryor spanish blood line, rare isolated herd, not about all the wild horses in America. So one does not need to see all 30,000 to want to save this rare iconic wild horse, the horse of the spanish conquistadores - proven by DNA sample.
TheWildhorses10 2 years ago
The fossils found in North America do NOT resemble the horses of today. They were extinct. That is why horses are called feral, not classified as wild. So I'm still waiting for you to come up with the horse population in North America in the year 1009. Again, it's zero.

YahshuaLovesMe 2 years ago
please do your research...
first off, these wild horses have not ALWAYS been wild. they were brought by the spanish.
second, deer populations are taken care of by natural predators. predators that horses do not deal with for various reasons.
they are not rare. there are plenty.
and no one is trying to eradicate the species... where did that come from?!?

Hillbilly - There is a difference between domestic and wild horses. They can fend for themselves perfectly fine, as long as we stop taking everything over. They've done it for years and years, after all. The only thing that's changed is us, and if horses have become destructive, it's only because we made it so.
MiYuThEhEaRtLeSs 3 years ago
Unfortunately, wild horse advocates don't have large campaign funds with which to buy votes. The ranching, mining, timber and gun lobbies do. Equus caballas evolved on this continent. Wild horses have as much right here as any other species. NO one can convince me that 30,000 wild horses can damage the range more than 4 million cattle. Who do they think they are kidding? We're not that stupid. VOTE for the horses and make it stick!

not to mention the destruction they cause to natural habitats! these are DOMESTIC ANIMALS BRED BY MAN WHICH CHANGED THERE PYSYOLOGY AND INTSINTS animals that got loose, i suppose we should just open the gates to all the dog pounds and let them run free and fend for themselves, since they where wolfs once right. this is the most cruel, irresponisble and idiotic thing ive ever seen to try and get the gov to leave them in the wild!

these horses need to be removed, they are not on the brink of extiction they are DOMESTIC HORSES! ive seen thousands of them in my back yard even and have yet to see one that isnt sick poor and starving, these bs pics and vids of healthy ones are taken in reserves where they get the care that DOMESTIC animals need, i swear im gonna start posting vids of the pitiful horses i see everytime i go around the forest around my house so idiots like this bitch can see why they are being removed
bigNMhillbilly 3 years ago
Removed, but why hillbilly? Because the BLM has miserably failed to honor their commitment to care for these animals and work with organizations and agencies to develop humane, sustainable programs for managing these animals on the range and in holding centers?
There are viable aalternatives--The BLM should immediately begin an aggressive program of darting (injecting contraceptive with a dart from a distance) of horses in the field and separate from any roundup schedule!

The blm isnt rich, & tax $'s are streched to the limit anyway, to spend taxpayer $ 2 keep these destructive horses in the poor condition they are in the wild is stupid and cruel.

dont get me wrong i love horses, and i feel for these ferill horses, thats why they need to be removed. its just like picking up a poor starving stray dog and maybe having to put it to sleep, sure nobody likes it but as humans it is our responsability to take care of all animals and nature espiecally those we created and let get loose, like these "wild" horses. If you had to see them in the shape i do all the time and saw what they do to the land ud want it stopped too, i promise.
bigNMhillbilly 3 years ago
These creatures are sick and starving because the BLM has taken away their range so that more land can be sold to ranchers' for cattle grazing!
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed that the use of PZP reduced the cost of wild horse management. Had the BLM adopted an aggressive contraception program in 2004, the cost of long-term holding would be minimized and there would be no crisis today.
No horse should die for the agency's mismanagement--this is their fault!
CDLver 3 years ago
well the thing is they are domestic animals, they cannot and should not be left in the wild to fend for themselves. and the blm doesnt sell land to ranchers it leases grazing right, which by the way makes revinue for the gov & doesnt take money from taxpayers to keep an envasive foreign domestic species in a place it shouldnt be. Also cattle fill the niche that bison left, the ranchers provide vital watersourses for wildlife as well as the cattle.
bigNMhillbilly 3 years ago
you may not know this but grazing cattle improves the land by keeping fuels and underbrush down, like i said they are so similar to bison that if grazing them is done properly (which it is or the rancher loses their lease) ive seen personly seep springs and water sourses that have been grazed by cattle for 130yrs get destroyed by the large hooves and habits of too many horses, plus they move differently than any wild animal or cattle, they will beat trails straigh off hills causing erousion.

you know hoses die all the time in slaughter houses and wiether u like it or not u benifit from it. they are a stock animal, not an "endangered" species, fact is in many nations horses are eatin just like beef, everyone is so sad that they are being killed, well atleast they arent wasting them and burying them or somthing like that. funny the blm is evil and mean for taking them to slaughter houses, but everyone including them uses products derived from slaughered horses everyday!

Is that your response?

Personally I feel our whole goverment needs an overhaul, before they can regain control of the BLM. HOpefully we'll start to see a brighter future for everyone very soon. (We can only pray)

They have rounded up all the horses in the past 8years....hmm who's been in office the last 8 years or am I the only one who has made that assumption. He's oil hungry and the horses are in his way....(sorry not a Bush supporter..be glad when he's gone) Our only hope is that someone can talk who ever replaces him to release them....:)
shelmarie82 3 years ago
No, you are not the only one who made the connection between wildlife loss, habitat loss and politics the last 8 years. Mankind have lost a great deal too over the years like the nature. Food, shelter, dignity, respect. For some countrymen, they are in similar situations as Cloud and his band.
I remember Teddy Roosevelt being our nation's biggest advocate of precious resources. Sure would be nice to have that mentality in today's leaders.

So much of our natural world has been destroyed. I fear for my grandchildren and all young people . They cannot survivein aworld without nature and wild horses are an important part of it.
bkwarner 3 years ago
this is ridiculous! They cant do this alone!

how can you adopt them? ...I want some! they are so cute and you cant just kill wild horses!!!
thewesternchickz 3 years ago
this is how i feel about this.
the majority of people are just sitting here wining "awe i signed a petetion!" well bull. we dont have the room or funding for these horses that we cant seem to adopt out.
so DO something about it.
dont make a video
make a DONATION.
theyre not doing this because 'they're destroying the land' they have to put these horses down because we simply dont have enough room, or funding for them.
so if you're so sorry for these horses, adopt one! or help pay for one!
maymayrox 3 years ago
we have the roon for them, they have the space now but we just want more room 4 malls and sub divisions when we already have enough room.we've already taken all the n.a.'s lands we dont need to take the mustangs.and fyi... not everyone can adopt,or afford the food, would u rather have them adopted and abused or neglected?think about that, u wouldn't want them hurt just b/c u want them to live.
cruelgirl1117 3 years ago
this is horrible, we NEED to save our wild horses!! dont kill them they are beautiful and majestical creatures!
horseluver288 3 years ago
I am outraged and have signed all petitions........BLM need to learn that they are not a law into themselves and the AMERICAN people need to stand firm and not allow this to happen. Wild Horses should remain WILD and FREE. I am not American but am adding my voice to your cause.

Ginger, good move, post the images of the horses as they are being round up for slaughter! Show the world exactly how America is brutalizing its most majestic of creatures!
Clearing public land of horses for cattle?! This is an absolute outrage!
CDLver 3 years ago 2
Ginger, If you have more footage of roundups they need to get up on youtube. Only then can the American public realize the routine abuse and deaths of these animals and take action to end this insanity.
