I don't think Greek cinema is dead (at least in the diaspora) as the two Best Picture Golden Globes were awarded to an American-Greek (Alexander Payne; The Descendants) and a French-Greek (Michel Hazanavicius). I told the Minister of Tourism/Culture, the old Athens airport should be turned into a major studio facility (plane hangers can turn into sound stages) thus creating 1000's of new jobs, new influx of capital and allow Greece to become the Hollywood of Europe (year round good weather).

@EffLabels The first film projector was developed by Eadweard Muybridge, the first proper film created by Thomas Edison, The oldest motion picture is Sallie Gardner at a Gallop by the Englishman Muybridge commisioned by American Leland Stanford. The only Frenchman you can possibly bring up is Louis Le Prince who produced the second motion picture ever and what do you know he was working in England the centre of the scientific world at the time.

@EffLabels And performing arts are much older than the Greeks, the Indians for example had entire treatise on how to properly perform music, dance and performances. The Greeks were merely the first Westerners but more to the point, every Greek seems to point to greatness performed 2,500yrs ago by men who probably they share no more in common with then having been born in the same geographic location. I guess, having taken world civilizations, there were many ancient civilizations that contributed to today's civilizations: phonecians, persians, indians (indus valley), inter alia. Not to mention that the Greek contributions are usually framed in terms of WESTERN civilization. I'm not denying your contribution; i just found the comment a little unproportional, that's all...
