Why does your iPhone 3gs crash on games so much? I have an iPhone 3gs too and with a ton of games that use up a lot of memory (ex. Modern combat 2, nova 2, etc.) and they NEVER crash on me. And that also including the fact that I only have 2 gb left of the 16 that it has lol and it's jailbroken too but it's still fast...

@ACKpipirizmaiz Stability is variable, I can't tell you definitively why mine crashes and yours doesn't.  Keep in mind that iOS 4 was new at the time and has seen several updates which may have fixed some stability issues.

I would be careful about rumors, but many experts have been speculating about Steve Jobs condition for years and the fact he never regained the weight he lost prior to his liver transplant. He's probably in a precarious state in terms of fighting off furthter disease, but he did appear recently when he met with President Obama, indicating he's still doing well.

@tofastgo Yes, especially if you are upgrading to iOS 4.0 which can perform noticeably slower. The best way to upgrade is to do a clean instal instead of a in-place upgrade.

Let me tell you guys one more crucial fact. The iPhone 4 might look like it's just a little faster, but remember it has a way higher resolution. Higher resolutions require more resources. If the iPhone 4 had the same resolution as the 3GS, it would completely obliterate the 3GS, including all the other phones in the current market. (3GS was faster than a nexus one in gaming and the 3GS only has a 600mhz processor compared to the 1ghz the nexus one has. Imagine if the iPhone also had 1ghz)

Remember that Apple makes a lot of software sacrifices to keep thing simple and responsive so in reality the iPhone processor has a lot less to do than the 1Ghz one in the Nexus One. The difference optimised software makes is evident in the fact that android version 2.2 is up to 450% faster than the last version.

@badabambambam The performance boost is overall negligible for existing apps, but more demanding apps like iMovie can take advantage of the hardware spec. And you can also see iOS4 introduces some instability to the iPhone 3GS due to the RAM demands of app-pausing/Multitasking. There are other significant upgrades from the 3GS, especially the Retina display and camera (not to mention better battery life, Wireless N, and substantially boosted 3G speeds).

@cdnml The iPod Touch 3G contains the same CPU/RAM specs as the 3GS, performance is nearly identical.

The iPod Touch also lacks GPS or Cellular Data Antennas so the iPod touch is much less usable beyond a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Hey DetroitBorg, I need advice/opinion. I got my daughter the 4 last week, I was going to get one for myself, but I'm thinking to get the GS 'cause its cheaper & except for speed/cameras, it does pretty much the same thing & I won't have to wait so long to get it like the 4. I'm not much into small devices anymore. Is it really worth getting the 4 over the Gs for someone like me? The only thing that attracts me about the 4 is the retina, I have bad eyes. Everyone says get 4, what do you think?

@msviswan It sounds like you would be happy with the 3GS, the Retina display doesn't really improve visibility, just fidelity and the overall experience. Performance isn't significantly different, the leap from 3G to 3GS was far more substantial in terms of performance. I've never considered the 3GS slow and the iPhone 4 doesn't really improve on that too much. The 3GS is still a vey good phone, especially at its new price.
