Same here! those vids are awesome for working out! I have reached only to the end of the thurd video so far and I wanned to see what is in the last video. I can see that in this video we are learning about the basics of capoeira witch is very cool! I love these vids and I hope more people use them for their every-day workout.
hi! back in 2008 i had these on avi files, and i worked them thru everyday for parkour. Now ive lost the vids, but thanks to you, they are here! youre great !
lol yo this whole tape is made in like ONE TAKE lmao these cats have great wind. And it just occurred to me tha the man on the left is talking through the whole thing.
Well, it's still pretty hard considering I can't hear the guy, I have to do this in my room, and when I'm spinning I can't really see the screen. Can someone post a vid that can kinda break it down a little more please?
tae kwon do (and other eastern martial arts) will help and create problems at the same time.
I've seen three capoeirstas with karate, kung fu and tkd experiences, and only one of them was able to move correctly. the guy was from karate. other two were unable to break their movement patterns and habits, implanted by eastern martial arts.
in eastern MA you move breaking inertia of your movements (or using very little of it), to gain more speed and force. in capoeira you use inertia of your movements to get speed and force. to such an extent that our CM told us, e.g. that it's hard to move from esquiva lateral to the same side you're bent, so you have to change direction. but guys from eastern MA usually try to use a power of muscles and don't care if it's hard to move in that direction or not. they didn't got used to feel it.
!!!!! That never dawned on me! That's why I have to be so relaxed with the movements. That helps alot when you get older too I bet. I have to use my inertia instead of just muscle. Is that what you're saying?
the best and most correct movement in capoeira is that which is done with ease and maximum comfort for your body. capoeira is very easy. you only have to understand how to move. usually it's much harder for people with MA experience than for people without it. but on the other hand MA guys are in a better form, their coordination is better, they learn much quicker then others.
Aww, okay. Thank you for the insight. I've been looking toward this art but could never find a teacher. Thank you for the videos and tips. I'll give it my all to learn capoeira until I can find a mestre.
@coolerzguy It's rough but only because I haven't been able to train much but even with the little bit of training I picked up from watching these and expert village's vids I can look like I know Capoeira. The key term is "look". It's hell to not have a mestre to boot my ass into gear but atleast I'll be somewhat prepared should I find one. Though I will say that I'm beginning to doubt that there's a real capoeira practitioner in Ohio at all.
@Charitsune Good luck with the search. I like how you emphasized look instead of like most people saying they CAN do it...But I would really take expertvillage lightly. I watched alot of their stuff, and sadly MOST of it is not good instruction at all. Not good as in theres a risk of injury if you try doing some of the stuff they show. Ex. I don't remember exactly the vid, but they were showing some sort of kick that would definately mess up your knee if you did it powerfully like they taught...
@Charitsune same here man. It's hard to find a practitioner here in Riverside ,California. There are classes at UCR and USC but you have to be a full time student to be in those classes. Such a bummer. But yeah I'm doing the same thing your doing over here. Hope you get far in your self training. ^_^
Since you train MMA, you're probably in good enough shape to start training already. The main thing you'll be working on in the capoeira class is learning the movements and how to move. I went backwards from you, I've been doing Capoeira for 5 years and then decided to pick up boxing as well.
I'm not saying these warm-ups and conditioning exercises will not do you any good. You'll be sore. Trust me. Not because your weak, but because you'll use muscles you didn't even knew you had before. :P

Never the martial Art, always the Artist!!!!!!!

I've practice tae kwon do and got a lot of the kicking abilities so I hope it translates well into this art.

Oh, then that means I have to break my habits to avoid that problem but how? Will practicing my ginga and other forms help loosen my up?
Charitsune 2 years ago
No, it won't help. Mestre Decanio (in his book) suggested to practise samba (samba de roda) to understend how to ginga.
nickmah 2 years ago
Okay is there a samba de roda vid on youtube? I'll start with that.
Charitsune 2 years ago
this is how samba de roda looks

these are samba lessons by an angoleiro mestre

you have to ginga relaxed just as when you dancing not as when you fighting.

guys, serious question here, replies will be appreciated...
i train at a mixed martial arts place, but have a spare evening when i know a capoeira class is on.
do people recommend i go through these warmup/condition exercises before i start training? and how long in advance should i aim for?
