  • the real reason the SP got bought by the UP is because they had been smothered to death by the ICC in three ways that i know of, the ICC wouldnt let them go electric, double track, and denied the SPSF merger twice. so really, this proves in the worst way that it could be proved that big government isnt a good thing

  • I miss those old tunnel motors!

  • great video. I admit that I wish this could've been made in the 1970s-80s, the peak years for the SP, it's lumber trains and railfanning, but since the mergers up to today, the magic is gone. the mergers, even bankrupt railroad take the fun out of it. SP (and all other fallen flags) lives forever.

  • I know what you mean. Here in Texas, I miss seeing and hearing the old locomotives of the Texas-Mexican Railway. Now, the line belongs to KCS.

  • 2:11. Those look and sound really old...

  • Naturally aspirated 567s!

  • they are, those engines were built in the 50's

  • Power is UP now. Any SP is patched and every now and then a DRGW patch will show up! I can rember long lines of sugar beat cars being loaded back in the 70s

  • Bet this is a good place to still see SP power rollin around though

  • There's not much SP painted power remaining - even patched - it's mostly been painted into UP colors by now. However, there are a few unpatched SP units still running around, including GP60 9721 and GP40-2M (MK rebuild) 7137.

  • Although alot of them are patched I still see a fair amount of SP painted power running on the joint line their are usually three or four in the yard here

  • What was the reason SP went down?

  • It was taken over by Union Pacific railroad.

  • so why did SP return?

  • no they didn't.

  • They didn't. SP has been gone for over 13 year's. You can find locomotives and cars still wearing the Southern Pacific's colors, but SP is gone. It got bought out and yet SP just refuses to die.

  • SP is not returning, this video was made in 1995 and is now being re-released on DVD.

  • omg..they caught highhoods!

  • This is about as hard core as you can get

  • Very hard core

  • I love it!!!!!!!!!

  • What a lashup at 2:11!

  • This looks great

  • I HEART Pentrex!
