I played many combat sims but USAF is the BEST! I remember playing it with my cousin when i was 5 years old.Works super on win7 just installed it yesterday!
@Rapture48 I am not sure, I would think it would, however I know that you could play around with software in helping you running it on there. I haven't done anything with Jane's USAF in quite sometime or upgraded my OS either. Haha, but I surely hope it does, cause in the future when I get Win 7 oh my it BETTER work!
It doesn't sadly... I bought a near mint version of the game. It installs fine, but it won't play. What you need to do is somehow get a separate HD with Windows 98 on it.
I loved this game but the controls took a while to memorize, and I never reallu got to play ,uch of it before I moved on. now I'm Win7 64bit, so, no chance lol

But from what I remember, when you click the preference tab and the game seems to stop working, press "Alt+F4" to see if it closes the preferences tab. Or, to play the game with the preference tab to work, you have to access your USAF.exe, right click and go under compatibility and check to see if it is on Windows 95/98 I think, that should work.

Those send and do not send error reports, no one ever listens to them, sadly. Well, at least it seems that way in that case. Just install Jane's USAF on a new hard drive partition formatted under the "NTFS" and it should work flawlessly. That's what I've been seeing people comment. However, I haven't tried that yet. Mind you, I haven't played Jane's USAF for quite some time. :-/
For it to work on XP, Install it like normal with the CDs or w/e orignal Jane's USAF installation file(s) you have. Get the USAF.exe NOCD Patch from Super Pro 9.4 and just place it into the Jane's USAF folder after installation.. works perfectly! And if you want the preferences to work(So you can set the settings) Go the USAF.exe and go to compatability and put it under Win95 or Win98 and then click apply/okay Run USAF.exe and set your settings, Then reset Compatbilty setings in USAF.exe 2 b4
On my Vista 32 bit box it wouldn't install, I ran the setup file but it came up with an error message saying "USAF is already being installed" and wouldn't continue. I changed all the compatability settings for the .exes to an earlier system. It still didn't work, so I ran USAF_repair_tool.exe and it's installing now :D If that helps anyone

does anyone know why I can't get it to work on vista? when im installing it the file Germ.wav will not install,and when i open the game it says MMDLL.dll not found and it closes,any suggestions?
Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I hate all those console games that look realistic but are really just disquised arcade games(like that "Lock-On" or whatever it is on X Box). Unfortunately all these great combat sims are starting to look a bit ancient in the graphics. Too bad, because I love Il-2.
It's called Over G Fighters on the 360. I have it, but it's not very good. It is fairly realistic in the flight department, but the weapons and combat are all wrong, such as the AMRAAM range being 9 miles, or having to fly within 4 miles of a SAM before it will go active so it can shoot you down with no waning. I bought USAF again but it won't work on my PC :(
Dude, try finding a program called Usafconfig.exe or something like that in your Usaf intallation folder, then run it and make sure it has "primary video driver" select and nothing else, then click test, exit and try your game again.
how did you get it to work for vista? are you using DX-10? i havent tried playng since I put vista on but i couldnt get janes to work on xp with DX-9 even in compatibility mode.

It doesn't sadly... I bought a near mint version of the game. It installs fine, but it won't play. What you need to do is somehow get a separate HD with Windows 98 on it.

When I try to click on the preference tab, the game just stops working. To exit it, I have to use the task manager.

Well, I for one, haven't been doing anything with Jane's USAF for a long time. But from what I remember, when you click the preference tab and the game seems to stop working, press "Alt+F4" to see if it closes the preferences tab. The pulldown menu problem is something to do with NTFS. Install the game on a partition formatted in FAT32 and it works fine out of the box under XP.
