I would think that most of the intricate bits often need a few little adjustments, or new levers if some are broken or missing. The actual brass mechanism that drives them must be much easier to clean and repair, since it's straightforward.

I'm curious, this picture frame does have a small (tower) clock that runs. The clock is probably either a 30 hour or an 8 day. Do the automata figures run 24/7?

The tower clock is a full size striking French movement with a dial that fits into the picture tower. I forgot to install it before filming the automaton action.

The clock is 8day and runs and strikes normally.

The automaton is only functional when activated.
