Question to all V-Drum users. Is there any sounds from the snare and toms acoustic wise, since they are actually not pads and have depth? Thanks for answering.
Nothing wrong with traditional grip with the right hand. Everything is arbitrary. After all, the traditional grip only evolved because of the slanting of the drums in marching band. So sad that so many drummers miss out on open-handed playing and are locked to conventions like: "right-hand-> hi-hat left hand->snare, or you'll die."
yes theyre good for dorms/apartments, but they sound like a fancy rockband set. sure they have some sound but they still have the prominent plastic sound
almost every exectronic drumset has whay too much Chorus/reverb which defenatelly make you hear this is an electric one :( - but this is one of the better sets
don't ask why but i would never wanna see a drummer use these but if you were a "serious" basement or stay at home drummer i'd buy these ahead of a acoustic kit.
Every body is always debating Acoustic and Electric. Acoustic sets give you a natural feel, better dynamics, and a more human sound than most electric drum sets. But you usually have to mic the crap out of them. 12 Mics for a five piece set with four cymbals. Electronic drum sets give you more set options, they're smaller, quieter, and are MIDI capable so you don't have to spend $700 on mics. They're both equal. It just depends on what you're doing.
Im sure its just the settings but the cymbals sound like poo, and for some reason I like the oldschool hard pads more than these mesh heads. not sure why. I probably just havent played a good kit yet.
OMG this guy is so coooooooool. What I want to know is,how do you get the music on i tried other vidz but nope,do you hit them the panel thingy or something?
That struck me as odd too. I've never seen a lefty play traditional grip on a right handed kit before. Seems like that would be very hindering when playing on the floor toms, especially the 2nd floor tom.
thought this was pretty much horrible sounding :/ good playing but, if your gna spend years practicing make sure it sounds good when you start playing :/
there are a few reasons why i prefer electronic over acoustic.
1. noise. obviously.
2.way easier to record.
3.easier to tune.
4.if i want a new kit, i press some buttons and there's a completely new kit. for FREE!
5.i honestly like the feel of electronic heads better....the roland mesh heads of course...aside from maybe the kick drum.
6. my band sounds WAY better/more professional live!!! as to where every other band can't hear the kick/hi-hats/ low tom as well..i run straight through the PA!!
Relatively soon, you will hear the majority of players say "I like it, but there is just nothing like the sound of a (insert brand/model) electric kit." Just like since the 50s people have come to say that about electric guitars. And don't pretend there is a difference in the crossover between Acoustic guitar/Electric guitar and Acoustic Drums/Electric Drums. Its inevitable.
Ok! Let me explain this to all you know it alls! This drumset IS THE FUCKING MIOTHER LOAD OF ALL DRUMSETS...DON'T YOU DARE FUCKING TALK SHIT ON IT OR I LL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!
That's exactly why I have the TD-9. If these kits didn't exist I never would have been able to own my own kit because I live in an apartment. Love my TD-9 but this thing sounds more realistic.
Agreed. But don't forget the stick noises (rather good noticeable on this video) and bass thumping...depending on the setup location it can still bother people.
to me half the fun of having an acoustic set is putting together all the different peices to make it sound the way i want it to. i would love to have an electric set but thier so damned expensive.
Exactly... my acoustic kit had to be dismantled because of neighbors, now it's stuffed in a closest :( So I bought a Roland TD9 kit with a few upgrades.... and LOVE IT! Being so tight is awesome.... I'm twice the drummer on an electric kit.... very cool to play on ;)
That's true. I own a V-Drum Kit, and it's great... But the "feel" of an acoustic kit just can't be beat... At least not to date. Especially the cymbals. The Roland cymbal sounds are great, but the feel is really lacking. I'm looking forward to what Roland comes out with next...
awesome playing. but the point of it is lost on me! v-drums just take all of the soul out of playing a drumkit. i find the sound they create is just really hollow and dull.......they are still only good for messing about on, practising and playing electronica!!!
@dowie999 then you've obviously never lived in a flat / apartment / terraced house / semi-detached house, and been longing to play drums, but couldn't due to the noise aspect! If you had, you'd soon understand the benefits of having drums you could play through headphones! Then there's the fact it is a more compact setup probably requiring less maintenance.
Great skills! When you play on those plastic cymbals if the drums do not over power the slapping sound you have when you hit those cymbals,, you can really hear the slap! Sounds slappy when your working that ride , But you rock!
because if you get a real set it dosent have all the stuff this kit has because it has about 500+ kits built intoit to change the sound and you dont have to tune it or any thing
some people prefer electronic sets because they dont have to worry about tuning and heads or they want to play something quieter that wont disturb other people
Way more kits in one with that. It sounds professional and can be used to trigger for recording. You can make it sound however you want. You're really limited with a real kit.
Maybe you want hundreds of different kinds of sets all in one set? Or maybe you want to record at home without bothering to buy mics or having a perfect room to record? Or maybe you dont want to piss off your neighbors? I could go on...
it is a real set. millions of drummers perfer electric drums since they can actually be easy on next door ears, easy tuning, muffing and etc. more compact, and it goes on. Pro drummers use acoustic drums the most cuz its tradition. Both electric and acoustic are both real drums in the same drum family. Just like there is no "I" in team, there is no use of the word "real" to divide electric and acoustic.
Versatility....sound control...perfect recording....multiple set sounds....the list goes on as to why it would be worth buying this over a regular kit
most people have acoustic drums and they buy electronic to practice on because they dont make no where near as much noise. but then you spend big coin to get the sounds and effects on the big end kits.
Usually people buy this for recordings while they get acoustics for live. Also those hard core drummers get this if they live in apartments or places they can't make a lot of noices. Also this instrument is like having 20 sets of drums together...or so they say that is.
I'm not mega rich, and I have a TD-20 and a nice acoustic kit. The TD-20 costs about the same as a mid level acoustic kit, and is awesome for practicing at home. It's as close as you can get to a real acoustic kit without the volume level. I leave my acoustic kit at the rehearsal space, and can play all I want at home... I love it.
Been quite some years since the Studio 13 days, mate...good to see you still have got those mega chops! Watching you jam on my kit was always inspiring...and you were always encouraging, for which I thank you! Keep rockin'!
I'm looking at lots of various settings on the Yamy Xtreme III videos, too. The Roland's may not have as many options, but they seem to sound better - more analog and acoustic. It may be response in the mesh heads.
Thinkin' about getting a Roland set and stubbled across the video. I've played it over many times. You got the rhythm inside ya my friend. Good stuff.
this is an amazing video, but this is why I don't ever want an electric set, it sounds like your hitting plastic half the time, but the rebound you get from those mesh heads is amazing, yet not worth it
Roland V-drums are the shittiest, most over-priced electronic drums ever concieved. Alesis' DMPROdrum module(no longer in production) was YEARS ahead of the TD-20 in every way. From trigger accuracy to velocity and nuance reproduction, etc... Roland makes terrible drum modules. Ddrum's drum brain is about the best on the market these days. I wouldn't even plug a V-drums kit up. 5,000$ practice pads. Nothing more.
Question to all V-Drum users. Is there any sounds from the snare and toms acoustic wise, since they are actually not pads and have depth? Thanks for answering.

Compare the expressiveness off 2box Drumit 5:

It speaks for itself.... 2box rules .
Which isnt strange, 2BOX DRUMIT 5 is from the guy who invented the e-Drum pioneering DDRUM (2, 3 and 4)

true. acoustic kits do sound a lot more awesome.
but in a way. there less efficient. like there harder to take places and there ALOT more noisy (which can be a problem! lol)
Electric problems:
Dont feel as good.
Dont sound as good
More expensive.
Acoustic Problems:
To noisy (Piss of neighbors lol)
Harder to carry around.
No extra features (some electric kits have over 100 differt effects and kits to play on the module)

this is an amazing video, but this is why I don't ever want an electric set, it sounds like your hitting plastic half the time, but the rebound you get from those mesh heads is amazing, yet not worth it

Left hander

he may be a left hander, but judging by his chops, he can just as easily play right handed.

Hmm... Strange- does that not mean he would have his kit reversed too?

Roland V-drums are the shittiest, most over-priced electronic drums ever concieved. Alesis' DMPROdrum module(no longer in production) was YEARS ahead of the TD-20 in every way. From trigger accuracy to velocity and nuance reproduction, etc... Roland makes terrible drum modules. Ddrum's drum brain is about the best on the market these days. I wouldn't even plug a V-drums kit up. 5,000$ practice pads. Nothing more.
