How thick should the walls be in larger pots vs. smaller pots? I'm aware that larger ones need to be thicker than the smaller ones, but I never really know what the right, approximate thickness should be for the various sizes. I'm trying to maste the wheel, so that's why I ask. I really enjoy your videos. They've helped me a lot. Thanks, Simon.
Could you have left the paper on as the pot dries? Would there be any effect on the pot? Would it cause uneven drying? Dry on the outside, wet inside? Or sucked the paper in? Just wondering.
It was amazing watching you.The last time I did clay was at Uni and loved every second of it but couldnt do it as a main subject.I always wanted to do this again as a hobby or something. You remind me so much of my lecturer at the time:) She always hums to herself , just like you do!:)Thanks for showing this, cant wait to watch part two now.
Absolutely, cut those CD's up. make profiles and beyond. Those junk mail credit cards work great too!!! We do love our clay toys. I made a fluting tool with scrap strapping. Works Awesum Simon Thank you.
Thank you Simon! Great clip. The papertip was excellent. Just curious - what thickness do you give a pot like that? It´d be very interesting if you could show that kind of pot cut in half in order to see the thickness of the wall down and up. A waste of a good pot maybe - but you know - for educational purpose...
I really like the "new way" you make your clips, indeed longer. You take more time to explain every gesture in a very pedagogical way.
I made a link pointing to your page on our art association site. Not in aim to replace the teachers, but to let student watch for steady experienced gestures again and again, not only looking at their mistakes.
(following) Having read the book of your grand father, i really think you are just pursuing his pedagogical work, on you own way (that's what i said in the short article if ever your try to read it). Thanks again.
I am a new potter...i mean very new, yet I already have the 'fever'. THANK YOU for taking your time and making all your movements clear; you explain so well! thanks Simon!
Nice pot, Simon. I know what you mean by being careful at the bottom not to enlarge it too quickly! Been there too many times and had it flop down onto the wheel....... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Lovely Shape!!! I sometimes use a CD cut in half to shape the teapot from the inside for shaping. Makes a great sphere. What else would a potter do with those junk mail CD's??? ;>)

Thanks for the video. It always amazes me how just small subtle changes in the shape can make such a diffrent in the form. It looks well balanced.

Ok, that was a little spooky.
Do you realize that before you started the clay was sorta in the shape of a face and head, similar to what has come to be identified as a Grey?
